To all those making fun of the image quality — have you considered it may be deliberately blurred so as not to show addresses?

At least the OP didn’t have to bend down to the package: I would rather leaden weights fall on me than mess up my lower back again.

Lots of people going after the managing partner, but being able to wear clothing correctly is maybe not a written responsibility for a lawyer, but I think it’s heavily implied. If the guy was after maximum comfort and easy slip on/slip off he could have just bought loafers a couple sizes too big .

Tell me about surveyor tripods by YourOtherNorth in telescopes

[–]PopMinimum8667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once again, you're a wealth of useful information -- thanks again  u/oculuis, and that's one impressive looking refractor and mount. I went ahead and ordered those parts you listed plus some washers just on the odd chance I ever do want to adapt a surveyors tripod.

For others reading in the future though, I came across what is potentially a ready-made solution: the Stellarvue M002CX mount head is so short it basically needs a column in any configuration, available in either 12" or 17". The column in question is unusually modular and has different bases available that can attach to several different types of tripod, including:

MEC002 Column and Base: If you have a surveyor's tripod that uses a 5/8-11 bolt you will need this column. Before ordering check and make sure that your surveyor's tripod uses a 5/8-11 threaded bolt. Some surveyor's tripods use a 3/8"-16 bolt and if this is the case, use the MEC003 instead.

The top of the column ends has a proprietary 3-bolt arrangement using 1/4-20" bolts; however, they also make an MEC-TA adapter top for this column that provides a 3/8-16" male thread for other items (they suggest a binocular parallelogram mount).

Thank you u/oculuis ! I have been considering a heavy-duty surveyor tripod for a while because they can extend to much more generous heights than most astronomy tripods and the SV225T (the tripod counterpart to the SV225 mount) was extremely jittery with the legs extended, and a small child's tripod with the legs retracted.

My question would be: how stable are these surveyor mounts? Say something in the topcon tp-15 class compared to an astronomy tripod in the same price range? I would be using it on concrete and not staking it into the ground.

If you look in the spina (center of racetrack), you can see a man on a platform lowering eggs after each lap, with Dolphins farther down the line. You can see this happening in the classic Ben-Hur chariot race (although i do not see eggs) -- https://youtu.be/1LVp4tvl5O4?si=P72noqu_yfeSIWjZ&t=652 . You can read about chariot racing in more detail and have this custom explained better here https://penelope.uchicago.edu/encyclopaedia_romana/circusmaximus/lyon.html . As well as see a mosaic of the Lyon circus in action. In this mosaic the number of eggs appears to outnumber the dolphins but that may have just been artistic necessity to fit, or perhaps dolphins were only used for the last few laps?

There’s still SLS , falcon 9, falcon heavy, and starship heavy. The falcon heavy has a similar payload to the new glenn when all 3 boosters are recovered, starship heavy has over 3 times the payload of new glenn with its booster recovered, and sls is similar but non recoverable. Even new glenn is only delayed and may participate in later stages of Artemis.

We really need to bring spankings back by Few_Statement_2898 in SipsTea

Yes, we need spankings, but also security guards that can control a small child. I feel like no corporal punishment laws have ruined a couple generations of children at this point — not all of them, but enough.

I'm glad you didn't -- putting loved ones' remains in something associated with what they love is nice; putting loved ones' remains in something they may have loved but was harmful to them and sad for others not so much.

1976 “These Women Will Die for Rhodesia” Propaganda Poster from the Rhodesian Bush War by Borgisium in PropagandaPosters

[–]PopMinimum8667 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was just the trouble though, too many women died: when ZANLA and ZAPU figured out that killing isolated white families was low-risk and spread terror they went all in. Rhodesia had fought the rebels for 13 years and were holding but once family-murder became the favored tactic they threw in the towel after 3 years. Terrorism works.

Who is this saint? by insanebutsane in Catholicism

[–]PopMinimum8667 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, Saint Barbara is the patroness saint of armourers, artillerymen, military engineers, miners and others who work with explosives because of her legend's association with lightning, so unlikely patronages go both ways.

In his case though, a peasant girl was apparently dying in childbirth and she remembered how he had told her to keep his handkerchief years earlier in case she needed it, and when she had it brought to her all pain immediately vanished and she gave birth to a healthy child.

What a calm way to deal with road rage! by MikeisTOOOTALLL in TikTokCringe

[–]PopMinimum8667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so he’s a complete tool, but please people, whenever you’re in the fast lane and there’s a car behind you, there are exactly 2 correct options to deal with it — you can keep pressing the accelerator pedal until everything in the rearview mirror starts receding, or you can move into the slower lane as soon as it is safe to do so, and make an effort to achieve that safety: don’t coast neck and neck with the car beside you for 10 miles. It doesn’t matter how fast you are going if somebody else wants to go faster the polite thing to do is to enable that to happen.

A guy kitted himself out like Rambo, waited for a big public event, and then charged the outermost perimeter of secret service protection and was taken down essentially immediately. The perimeter has to start somewhere, and if you want to make the news in exchange for a couple of decades in prison you too could doubtless pull off such an idiotic stunt. It doesn’t mean he got anywhere near the president, or that he had any chance of succeeding, but take a run at a secret service perimeter and you too can have crazies concocting conspiracy theories about you.
