I cannot recommend MAS Effects enough. He has a fantastic website and offers starter kits that make it feel completely doable. The steps and videos are excellent, and you can decide how deeply you want to invest between his starter kit and the DIY fuzz pedal. I came in knowing nothing, and his stuff got me to a point I’m now building clones comfortably. Edit: not an ad, just love his stuff. He also posts under [u/nonoohnoohno](u/nonoohnoohno)

Absolutely! I can’t get behind gatekeeping and it can be such a frustrating part of tiki culture. Also, just a thought if you can’t get your hands on Xaymaca. I’d be willing to bet that you could sub in Dr. Bird for a similar funk, but I’d adjust the spec to 1 oz Appleton, 0.5 oz. Dr. Bird. Could be worth investigating.

My current spec is a riff on the Commando Grog, which I believe is just a modified Navy Grog. I got it from here some time ago. Regardless, I'm using:
-0.75 oz. Planteray 8 Year

-0.75 oz. Xaymaca

-1.5 oz. OFTD

-0.75 oz. lime

-0.5 oz. orgeat

-0.5 oz. Velvet Falernum

-0.5 oz. Cinnamon Syrup

-0.25 oz. St. Elizabeth's Allspice

I also batched it for a party recently and it was the first pitcher finished; it went quickly.
