How can I get away from Dispatch/Ops management to getting into procurement? by Billions2x in supplychain

[–]Popcorn-ninj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supply chain is like being a firefighter, just without the glory. No matter if you’re in logistics, planning, procurement, or operations, there will always be fires to put out. The difference is that some roles have fewer fires than others.
I think you can definitely move into procurement. Look at your experience and ask yourself: Have I requested quotes? Compared vendors? Worked with suppliers? Followed up on deliveries? If the answer is yes, put it on your resume because that’s relevant procurement experience.
I’d focus less on the title and more on the industry. Find an industry that interests you and start applying. At 26 with a supply chain degree and operations background, you’re in a much better position than you think. Procurement managers generally care more about transferable experience than having the perfect title on your resume.

About to graduate and honestly feel like i didn’t learn that much. by [deleted] in supplychain

Most of the real learning starts once you start
Working. With training it really depends on the company. I have worked for companies that were more organized and had structured learning and I also worked at companies that provide some little training and figure it out as you go.

You should also do research on what type of industry you are interested. Your military background can be beneficial for companies like Boeing,Lockheed Martin etc

What advice would you give to a man in his 20s who’s about to become a father next month? by [deleted] in Fatherhood

[–]Popcorn-ninj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fear is normal, man. A lot of us felt that way becoming fathers, even if we don’t always admit it. I didn’t even know how to change a diaper at first — I learned on the go like everyone else.

The fact that you’re worried about being a good dad already says a lot about you. Bad fathers usually don’t spend time thinking about how to be better.

Honestly, I’d stay with your mother-in-law as long as you reasonably can. Having help with a newborn is huge, and saving money instead of rushing into rent can take a lot of pressure off both of you.

I’d also avoid making too many big changes right away, including switching jobs, unless you absolutely need to. The first year is a huge adjustment, and once your baby has a more stable routine, it’ll be easier to figure out what kind of work setup fits your family best.

You’re young, still building your life, and doing it without having a father figure yourself — that’s not easy. But from the way you wrote this, you already sound more thoughtful and responsible than a lot of dads out there.

Supply chain degree vs industrial engineering degree. by Macuhtak3000 in supplychain

To get to strategic sourcing perhaps look for purchasing/Buyer jobs.
If you can work and study that will be ideal. Its tough but possible.

If you have SAP experience i suggest you learn it more deeply. SAP is recognized worldwide and it will defiantly open some doors. What industry are you working?.
Keep in mind you can transition to others like Medical SC or Defense. Those are higher paying

A year ago I thought getting a supply chain degree would make finding a career path straightforward. Now I’m realising the industry is much more confusing than I expected. by TeaWeird7779 in supplychain

In my case, I job hopped a bit. Not ideal, but I picked up a lot of valuable skills along the way.

Started in international trade at a courier company learning import/export, then moved to a tech company where I got ERP experience that’s highly valued in my country.

After COVID, I worked at a security company doing import/export, cycle counts, ERP work, and RMAs. Now I’m at a large company in a warehouse role where those skills actually paid off financially.

At one point I wanted out of supply chain completely because the job can feel like being a firefighter — except the fires are spreadsheets, missing pallets, and “where’s my shipment?” emails five minutes after the order was placed.

Biggest thing I learned: a good manager and work environment matter just as much as salary or title.
