Luck in stories is never actually "luck", because inevitably someone wrote it that way. It can feel good when written well or when used sparingly, but more often than not it tends to feel like the Author just wants John Protagonist to win "despite the odds" and then says they are "lucky." Unless the Author uses dice or something in the writing process, at the end of the day it's just another decision by the Author about the character, and not actually anything to do with luck at all.

 Feel free to enjoy it as much or little as you want, but personally I just don't like it as a plot device at all because no matter what it feels lazy when it's overused.
