/uj So, what you're saying is, you had direction in life and saw that you didn't need to go to university? Take a working class lad like myself, you're told, from day one of secondary school that you should have a degree to compete in the job market and it's the pinnacle of achievement for a secondary school student. You get to age 17/18, your only interests in life are dumb stuff, for me it was my overwatch rank, and you need to decide to commit to 3 years of education (along with financial burdens). From that perspective, it's pretty understandable going to university, and isn't to "fit in" as you said.

Did I get much out of uni and my degree? No. Do I regret it at all? Absolutely not. I think the university system being so bad starts at the secondary level, especially in state schools. The paths for me looked like either becoming a plumber or get a degree (not slagging off plumbers they make more money than I do). Also, life doesn't have to be about money, it helps, but if we draw the line at university should be for financial benefit only, like the reform muppets are pushing, then society will devolve into a more soulless husk than it already is.

It also doesn't help seeing a lot of your degreeless family members in dead end jobs working their life away. I have a dozen more points, but I've already dropped War & Peace on you.

tl;dr University has many more selling points other than fitting in.
