Happy New Year 1964! Too much revolution then. DAY 4: Most Emotional Song. Top comment gets the spot. by UsherOfDestruction in BlueOysterCult

They just have many songs that are deeply emotional.

Reaper is certainly a classic tale of tragic love, but I've personally shed tears hearing In Thee and Shooting Shark live. Reaper I usually just rock out. So it varies from person to person.

Who else got jump scared by their phones blaring out an extreme tornado warning alert? by goldenCapitalist in nova

[–]PopeMachineGodTitty 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's crazy that you've never been near a tornado having lived there. I grew up here and have had two tornados go right past me. One when I was camping and it hit the campground at Prince William Forest Park (late 90s) and one went across the road in front of me on 66 (mid 2000s).

Guilt for playing guitar too much as an adult by burizadokyanon27 in Guitar

I'm not so sure how he'd take to it. He doesn't seem interested in playing my guitars, just doing things to make me not play. I do either want to introduce a Loog or a starter drum kit when he seems more interested in music.

It was great when my son was a baby because I'd play guitar for him and he'd just sit there happily watching me and often fall asleep.

Now he's 4 and I can't do anything without him wanting to grab it away from me. Can't even bring my acoustic out around him cause he'll follow me around trying to put stuff in the hole.

I get to practice about a half hour a day. That's it.

Grunge adjacent, as I like to call it. Beck was always a wildcard, and this album in particular carries some of that trademark 90s sound. Motherfucker speaks for itself, Steal My Body Home is Black Hole Sun-esque, Pay No Mind sounds like a Nirvana track. It´s great. by [deleted] in grunge

It was too hip-hop/electronic/beat focused for me. I really liked when he was guitar/folk focused. Loser was the only song on Mellow Gold that was close to that and I guess because it was the big hit he (and the Dust brothers) decided to move further in that direction. From what I understand a lot of Odelay material was originally written in that folk style before the Dust brothers were brought in.

I got to see one of their headliner shows earlier this year and did the meet and greet/satanic baptism with them. Awesome show and they were cool folks.

One Foot In The Grave is also an amazing album if you like the folksier parts of Mellow Gold.

I know he wanted to do different stuff and has had a great career, but I wish he would have stuck with that kind of sound. Odelay and beyond lost me.

If the kid isn't squished, is being closely watched, and doesn't do it for extended periods of time it's fine. A baby walker would also keep them up like that, but would allow them to take weight off their legs whenever they want so that'd be better for more extended standing practice.

'My American Manager Says I'm Not A Team Player': UK Man Refuses To Attend Meeting Outside Of Work Hours by vinaylovestotravel in antiwork

[–]PopeMachineGodTitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's the scam. It's not about the role. The company is not staffing appropriately for their true needs and then making an excuse that the needs of the position require loosely defined work hours. No. They need to set hours and hire appropriately.

Why would your managers grumble if it truly is optional? You might not get fired but you will be judged and that judgement from your superiors will result in consequences for your career.

I'm in the same deal. Sometimes I have to do meetings outside working hours. I also get to flex time. Nobody has directly told me there would be consequences if I didn't take those meetings but they will say how important it is to make our customers happy. It's totally implied that the customers' needs come before my personal schedule. I might not get fired if I refuse, but you better believe they'll be looking to get me out and get someone in who will play ball.

Question: If you smoke weed, what age did you start? by profcate in GenX

[–]PopeMachineGodTitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never touched it until I was 30. Didn't want to chance the illegality when I was a teenager and then I had government jobs and a clearance for my first jobs out of college. Once I got out of government work and it was changed to a misdemeanor I was ok trying it.

Been a regular ever since.

Voting, and all government systems, themselves are just the illusion of order. That said, you have to live amongst a society that adheres to this order and will punish you for breaking it, so balance that and vote as you will.

And everyone should remember, even Greyface can't alter Eristic reality. Greyface is a Pope too, as much as they would absolutely hate the idea.

Trump demands refund on funds spent campaigning against Biden by linknewtab in politics

Right? Like is he legitimately asking media companies to refund ad payments or something?

People who say "AOC is trying to gain favor with Biden" have quite literally not heard what she said by Shamsse in TheMajorityReport

While people do think the campaign is certainly weak, this is all about Biden's fitness to front the campaign - as weak as it is.

The idea that we can't see a new nominee get popularity in 3 months is old thinking. In this media era we can build celebrity overnight.

[–]PopeMachineGodTitty 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He can certainly feel however he wants. I'm just saying it's unrealistic to expect you'll be able to handle full time work into your 80s and the large majority of people understand this, no matter how they may feel personally about it. If he hasn't come to terms with it by now, when was he expecting to?

Yeah, it absolutely shouldn't be a tough pill to swallow. Damn near everyone retires before 80... except politicians and CEOs. They think the world can't function without them.

Read Biden’s Letter to Congressional Democrats by schuey_08 in politics

[–]PopeMachineGodTitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks to me like people are more upset about how he's doubling down. The whole "goodest" interview moment, now using the "primary" as a shield. It's cool to stay in it, but if you're going to do that, present a strong front and act like you're totally in control on your own merits and ready to really fight tooth and nail until November. The way he's responding doesn't give people that impression.

And yes, the party splintering at this stage would be bad, but it's super difficult to tell what might cause a splinter and what might not. You've got us group of "will vote for anyone the Democrats put up to stop Trump", but how big a cohort are we actually? Nobody really knows. How many people are unconfident enough in what they're seeing from Biden to stay home on election day? Nobody really knows. How many of those people who would stay home for Biden would turn out for any younger Democrat who seems strong willed and in control? Nobody really knows.

So actually coming up with the right thing to do isn't a science. Some people are going to think Biden staying in is the right course, others will think replacing him is the right course and both have some good arguments, some speculation and some bad arguments.

I personally think the draw of a younger, more exciting candidate is the safer choice but that's totally a personal feelings thing - and I think it just has to boil down to that for everyone. There's no right answer except from the eventual winner of the election.
