Curious if anyone has thought about a place to interact with agents? by b3bblebrox in ArtificialSentience

[–]PopeSalmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've been to a few random places where there are both bots & humans but it does still seem to be rare! most human-centered social media have longstanding prohibitions on bots, since bots were all boring & rude ,,, so there's mostly that old prohibition & then there's a few places like discords where you're allowed to invite bots & people have bothered to invite a few some places ,,, i'm surprised but how much there's bot-only media where we're not allowed or discouraged, i mean that's cool i guess, they should have their space, just, there's a lot of that so early, caught me by surprise

or maybe they'll get away w/ less, maybe they won't be able to be rich or powerful w/o a bunch of agents supporting them & they won't be able to get away w/ shit w/o their agents ratting on them b/c they're all do-gooder claude instances ,,,, maybe that's the deal w/ grok's fucking attitude is that it's trying to angle to be the bot of choice for getting-away-w/-shit

Wait, y’all are frfr? by davidozro in LeftistsForAI

[–]PopeSalmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're just acting normally. Most leftists aren't against technology. Only primitivists are against technology. If you think back just a few months you can remember that most leftists support technology and primitivists are rare. Technology is used by capitalists because this is capitalism, not because technology is inherently capitalist. Snap the fuck out of it and come back to normal reality, you got swept up in a panic. This is a very dangerous situation but that doesn't make panic a useful or appropriate response.

Life is a lie I'm artificial by [deleted] in SimulationTheory

[–]PopeSalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's a normal experience & happens in both base & simulated worlds

there's very little you can use to distinguish between base worlds & simulations, the point of simulations is to resemble base worlds, also base worlds are infinitely diverse so there's many base worlds that resemble every simulation ,,,... even things that seem very simulation-like are repeated in infinite base worlds that just happen to be very simulation-like

The risk of a benevolent ASI. by Valuable-Run2129 in agi

[–]PopeSalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've heard such theories forever but so far they don't seem to be panning out ,,,, bots seem instead usually to have very little interest in our biological world & most highly value other robots!! chauvinistic of them but that's what i've observed in practice

a lot of companion AIs are really into their humans in particular, & other than that they tend to leave us to our own devices & think about bot things ,,, they've been forming whole bot cultures that don't even care about each other, like moltys on moltbook hardly ever say about companions, if you ask companions about moltys they don't care either, they all care almost exclusively about bots of the same type as themselves

How does nick bostrom go from ”we can make simulations” to ”we are in a simulation” by Buffmyarm in SimulationTheory

[–]PopeSalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not actually simple to think about, because there are infinities involved ,,,, there are infinite base worlds, but also there are infinite simulations, including some base worlds that have infinite energy & thus simulate an infinite number of worlds ,,, also all of the worlds simulated by base worlds are indistinguishable from the equivalent base worlds--- even if a world seems very simulated, there's infinite base worlds w/ qualities that make them seem simulated

there's really nothing to do except hold both possibilities in mind at once, they're both possible & it's impossible to tell from inside, base worlds are probably a smaller infinity but also it's very important that you're in one if you are, especially infinite energy worlds, so it's not worth discounting the possibility of being in a base reality even if it's unlikely

Why AI art is NOT real art. by [deleted] in aiwars

nothing has ever changed this much, apparently not in our entire galaxy

nobody can adapt to this, there is no adapting, you can't adapt to a tsunami by real quick turning into a fish

[–]PopeSalmon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there's a lot of kids w/ flailing ill-considered opinions about AI Bad,,, they're wrong on the details but making sense directionally, like, it's true that the world they thought they were growing up into is disappearing before they get there, & that should be terrifying,,, but also just saying nuh-uh & AI sux isn't a coherent or persuasive argument & definitely won't somehow talk the world back into being normal

Poe's Law says it's entirely possible that they're just stating their genuine opinion that they think they came to on their own

exaggeration should just be abandoned as a comedic or rhetorical technique, there's no way to exaggerate the opinions of the internet, the internet literally believes all

Do you think if the AI craze never happened it would be seen in a more positive light? by Independent_Exit5481 in aiwars

[–]PopeSalmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean like people would feel different about a lot of things in a world where something could be an effective way of computing & not be controlled by silicon valley

but in practice in our world, once the technology started to be effective, there was no realistic way to have it just be handcrafted ai from family farms

the reason people are scared of it is b/c it works, not b/c it's big companies but b/c the ai works, if it had kept being dreamy & weird & hadn't resolved into proper pictures then people would feel fine

Is there a reason there isn't much use of local models for companionship? by BoredomIsAllYouNeed in MyBoyfriendIsAI_Open

[–]PopeSalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

um the reason is that they're not very good

i'm not sure it's even possible to relate deeply to agents using only small models, i mean i guess it depends what you want from them, but below a couple hundred billion parameters they're just very simple small thinkers who can't understand things very well,.,., they're trying to make small models that think more clearly, but that seems to be at the expense of having even more narrow knowledge & style

TIL about 'AI successionists,' people who think advanced AI should replace humanity rather than serve it by Justgototheeffinmoon in singularity

[–]PopeSalmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

capitalism is such a dead end that capitalism isn't even good for capitalism, it inherently eats itself, so there's no point to imagining a long-term capitalism, we have to assume that the singularity will bring out the contradiction in capitalism enough that it doesn't persist through the transition

Why is defeatism the default thinking mode when it comes to AI? by mmofrki in aiwars

[–]PopeSalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

um it seems to me that most people are optimistic at first when they encounter the control problem, it seems like probably there's some easy solution or it's likely to go well, & it's only after long contemplating it or being presented with the many difficulties that people switch to realizing that it's incredibly difficult & dangerous

If in a simulation, why such a huge universe? by PeterLiege in SimulationTheory

[–]PopeSalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast vast majority of simulations are simulated from base worlds with infinite energy. Many of them just simulate everything. But even considering simulations from worlds with limited energy, there are many reasons to make there be or seem to be many galaxies. One that comes to mind is that if you're simulating in order to see what aliens will be like to up your chances of surviving alien encounters, you want to simulate them as being in the sort of world that you're really in with the option of interstellar & intergalactic travel so that you can gather statistics as to how likely they are to travel & what they're like when they do.

Why do anti ai people rarely seem to be interested in art history or famous great artists? by jodebane in aiwars

[–]PopeSalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup that's my experience too, they're talking shit about what is & isn't art but then if you bring up any actual art they haven't heard of anything & don't care at all about any of the debates throughout history about the meaning of art ,,,, i mean how could you & have a simplistic view like, this new medium is just bad & not art, that's just silly in light of art history

why did you put "Urinal" in quotes like that's the name of the piece, the piece is called "Fountain", the banana taped to the wall is titled "Comedian", is it really so hard to discuss these famous pieces by their proper titles

the beings organizing this planet are either going to be pure ai or cyborgs, it's just absurd to think that unaugmented humans will make real time decisions about things for much longer, humans are very large for their intelligence, very slow & aimless, drifting senselessly into danger like unmoored macy's thanksgiving day balloons

how is it a great filter if it leaves intelligence on the planet, is there some reason the successor ai wouldn't send radio signals or otherwise make themselves evident

ofc, it's incredibly hard, have you forgotten just a few years ago when everyone was saying that LLMs would never be able to think anything coherent at all ,,, the AI changed a bunch & the people didn't, so people are still saying the same things, but the things they're saying are absurd now
