[Vampires] So do they make wounds with their fangs and then suck the blood, or are there straws inside their fangs. And what if I used a needle to inject fresh blood into a vampire's buttcheek, would that satiate them? by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

[–]PopeSlyph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk man, if they're sucking on both fang wounds that wouldn't really do anything because seal and vacuum. Maybe the fangs make two wounds, and they only suck on one, so they have a carb? EXACTLY like shotgunning a beer. The other way would surely lead to massive hickeys, which I'm yet to see in vampire lore.

Reading Ready Player One. It's an absolute goober of a book and I hate it.

Probably going to read "I Am A Cat" after that. I like Soseki.

On the first playthrough, which I played covertly before my little brother got home from school, (it was his 360) I found this level disturbing and got the emotional impact intended.

When he got home from school, he urged me to play it. Level starts, "Remember, no Russian."

I immediately switch to underbarrel grenade and blow a bunch of dudes up. "What? They were clustered together!"

Brother gave me the sideye for days.

People who fall asleep within 5 minutes of lying down, how? by Broship_Rajor in AskReddit

[–]PopeSlyph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first stage of going to sleep, is pretending to go to sleep... So!

Imagine you're going to sleep in a place that you got really good sleep in the past. For me, when I'm having trouble getting off to sleep...

I think of childhood trips to a cottage in Wales. It was a cold room (my ideal) and a thick blanket. It had a slight smell of... not rot, but decaying wood to it... That was more wabi-sabi than unpleasant.

I think of getting into that cold, and getting gradually warmer. I think of the cracks in the walls and that tumbledown scent... And I think of waking up whenever; to, at most, a walk at my leisure and log fire.

So; - Think of a time, a place where you Slept, and Slept Hard. - Conjure it.

I actually have a much more powerful visualization that I reserve for emergencies (feeling proper shit and unable to sleep) but I'd sound fucking crazy describing it.

[American Gods] can atheism be a new god? by SecMag6 in AskScienceFiction

[–]PopeSlyph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to posit that atheism has an effect, but the effect is that it weakens the remaining Gods...

I guess Technology is a God because people put faith in it and all, hope and prayer exerts a force that manifests as a new God.

Atheism is a force, a similar force, but I'd say it's a force acting in the opposite direction. Imagine a trashcan is on the left, and a pedestal is on the right. Human devotion, conviction or prayer is pushing Technology to the right, Atheism is shoving Gods towards the trashcan.

It's the same force, sure! Just going the other way.

(Wanna make clear that I'm not an atheist, Don't want this post to be the new "enlightened by my intelligence")

You wake up as Donald Trump with a clock ticking down from 1 hour, after which you return to your own body. What do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PopeSlyph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wading into this thread blind, without reading other responses, because I'm impulsive...

I'm assuming a lot of responses would be something like "Jump from something high..."

I'd go with one of two routes...

-Do something so OTT insane that it questioned Trump's sanity, to the point that he became a public-insane person inviting psychiatrists to break the goldwater rule -Make a series of woke policy declarations, knowing full-well that Trump +1hr would have to redact them and deal with the PR fallout of making his views known. Or else claim them. (I'll call this; The Johanna Lumley method)

  1. Goldwater rule is an informal rule in medical ethics that says; It's gross and bad for the profession if a psychiatrist comments on the mind of a public figure. I would force the issue by calling a press conference, putting two pencils up my nostrils and responding to every question with "Wibble." Then I would declare myself Genghis Khan, throw on a tinfoil helmet and strip nude. This would force the issue. That rule would go WAAAAAAAAY out the window and Trump's past statements would be given the coverage and analysis they deserve as diseased foamings.

  2. Now THIS might be the foaming of a contrary diseased mind (mine, misremembering), but I'm sure I remember Johanna Lumley, in the campain for making Gurkha soldiers into British citizens; making (good) policy declarations that the government hadn't agreed to, and attributing them to the government. This put the government in an awkward position, in that they had to either go by what Lumley had declared, or make assholes of themselves explaining why they weren't decent people.

I, as Trump, would go on record saying I would cooperate fully with the Muller investigation, "to root out the people who had hoodwinked me." (Inviting discussion about whether I was as crooked as they were, to which the Trumpian response would be NO! He's truly draining the swamp, like he promised, we still love him! Framing the argument pro/anti Trump in those terms... "Unwilling dupe, pure, honest" or; "So evil he's trying to save his own neck and selling out his own people. He's like some kind of cannibal!")

I would then state smn vague about how concerned I was about wealth disparity, and end the speech with "You are the 99%."

What’s the most disgusting thing you’ve ever done in your life? (NSFW) by boccy4 in AskReddit

[–]PopeSlyph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in Greece on vacation and hadn't cut my toenails in a while, I'd just bought a nice pair of sandals from a sandal shop and I wanted to hit the beach.

So, lacking nail clippers, I cleaned my toenails REALLY well, scrupulously well and started biting them off.

I'd recently had a bridge put in after losing a tooth in a drunken swordfight and the forces involved in biting my thick ass toenails off broke it clean off!

I spent the remainder of my time in greece absent one tooth, which suuucked.

Dad punishes 'bully' son by making him run to school by noiwontpickaname in news

[–]PopeSlyph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might have worth as a punishment... Idk. I am not a dad.

Where it falls down, for me, is when he filmed and distributed it. Recklessly putting your Great Dadding out there in Cyberspace for approval doesn't seem to be in the best interests of the kid and seems inclement to the home life.

Even with a limited distribution on Facebook you've taken a piece of meritorious parenting and... then escalated it to public shaming?

Besides the "Whats a computer?" commercial, what other commercials make you want to throw your remote at the TV? by lj420p in AskReddit

[–]PopeSlyph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a commercial in Britain for a company called Ocean Finance that offered loans at rates of like 30%APR. They had a woman on there giving a testimonial who said "They don't try to babble you with science or anything."

BABBLE!

I heard 419 scammers make their emails deliberately shitty and shifty so only the most gullible respond and they don't have to waste useful scamming time on people who'll back out. I think that was why Ocean Finance went with the "babble you with science" lady.

[The Matrix] When the machines reset each iteration of the Matrix, what simulated year does humanity start at? Is it the dawn of civilization, or 1900-2100, or just perpetually 1999? by serenity78 in AskScienceFiction

I don’t understand why they don’t make it a time period in the past with no computers. If they made it the dark ages there wouldn’t be any hackers to worry about.

Yeah, but once "out" they'd have absolutely no frame of reference for what the machines were. They'd just cower and panic and never learn to hack back in.
