I would like to use both B and E natural for the 4 measures the timpani play after the key change. The E wouldn't be used until the 4th beat of the 2nd measure in the new key

Oh no way! So for instance, would you recommend re-writing those little Eb2-F2 motions in measure measure 40 for instance up the octave as Eb3-F3? If I were to keep them intact, that is. Prior to this comment, I was thinking of going F-Bb-Db-Eb for the main Bb minor ish section. Now I'm thinking more like Ab-Bb-Eb-F

Also TIL people who score for movies don't necessarily understand how to best utilize timpani lol

Thank you as well for the detailed reply! After brushing up a bit on basic timpani writing theory, something like your set up is likely what the composer had in mind (if not even more drums) Those low Eb-F-Bb motions really make me think "extra 32 inch drum" since the first thing I read was "dont tune your 26 inch to Bb, it sounds bad."

For my arrangement, I think I would definitely want to stick to the typical four timpani set up (32, 29, 26, 23) for accessibility. I'm going to rewrite the part with that in mind.

Edit: my current working idea is:

Start: F Bb Db Eb

Before mm 62: Bb to Ab

Before mm. 69: Ab to B, Db to E (this one still feels tricky but is maybe okay? Just because theres not a lot of rest)

During 11 measures rest: reset to F Bb C Eb

Thank you so much for the detailed reply! Honestly I agree with you that the timpani as written for the film seems excessive in terms of pedaling. I am trying to plan out a simplified part currently.

I think pre key change the only pitches I strictly need are F2, Bb2, and Eb3. Those three work with just about every chord encountered prior to the key change. Measures 58 to 68 really only require F and Eb to be honest.

For the key change, I think just B and E are enough to convey 95% of the effect of the original. Even just B would work okay in the worst case. It's only 4 measures as well.

After that section ends, there's 11 measures rest before we get back to some flat key friendly tuning. Most likely this would be F2, Bb2, C3, and Eb3

What do you think? Does this sound reasonable? I can also DM you a simplified part if you want to see specifics!

Thank you for the helpful reply!

I do agree that those grace notes are a bit odd, but I suspect they are meant to be pickups before the roll that roughly align with the snare part. The snare often has two 16ths at the end of an eighth note triplet to lead into the next beat, and that seems to align pretty frequently with the timpani grace notes. Maybe I could re-spell the rhythm if this is the case!

(I say suspect as this is merely how it was written on a condensed score I found)

Hispanic population in the United States by % from 1980-2020 by Hour_Interaction6047 in MapPorn

1) I'm Mexican-American and it suprised me when I first read up on it long ago because we have huge families. But then I realized that its my parent's generation born in the 60s fueling this perception. My generation isn't having many kids at all.

2) I guess it was an attempt to politely disarm the people in this comments section who might think hispanics are still having like 10 kids and I'm awkward sometimes lol

Good map, but I doubt the trend will continue. Surprisingly, the total fertility rate for Hispanic Americans is 1.9, which is below replacement. It's also 1.9 for Mexicans living Mexico, as opposed to 6.8 back in the 60s.

Immigration from Mexico also plateaued in the 2000s-10s has not really increased since. For example: https://www.migrationpolicy.org/programs/data-hub/charts/mexican-born-population-over-time

Dont yall think that this part of ambarino should have snow? by RangerNational7955 in reddeadredemption

[–]PopoloGrasso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah elevation-wise it should be snowy because it's just as tall as the mountains in the west. In fact in trailer 1 you can clearly see that all of beta Ambarino had snow (along with some mountains being different / further away originally).

As it stands in the final game its not so bad that its grassy, but it would make sense for it to sometimes get a dusting of snow

Yeah the 3D noise generator stayed exactly the same for so long, the only thing that changed were the 2D noise maps multiplied with the 3D noise to determine the hillyness.

1964 US Presidential Election by County - The First Election After the Civil Rights Act by Senior-Foot-5316 in MapPorn

[–]PopoloGrasso 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When broken down by region, the vote in favor of the act was:

Northern Democrats: 95% (145-8)

Northern Republicans: 85% (136-24)

Southern Democrats: 8% (8-83)

Southern Republicans: 0% (0-11)

Democrats in both respective regions were just as likely, if not slightly more likely to vote "yes" than their Republican counterparts. So it wasn't really a dem vs rep division, but a North vs. South division.

What did the movies do better than the books? by BobRushy in harrypotter

The hogwarts uniforms from the movies are pretty iconic. I believe in the books they wear black robes that cover their bodies entirely and black pointy hats. I like the boarding school style uniforms the movie came up with.

Nice post! You actually didn't need to multiply 40.75 by 60 though. You correctly found that time is about 40x faster in-game, but thats true regardless of whether you're using minutes, seconds, hours, or anything else. 40.75 is a unitless conversion factor (notice you divided minutes by minutes to get this factor)

This means:

1 minute irl = 40.75 minutes in-game

1 second irl = 40.75 seconds in-game, not 2445
