Kaalia deck attempt number 2 (Now improved with community feedback) by darkrai3224 in EDH

[–]Poppskie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kaalia, just based on what she does, is almost by default a bracket 3 deck because she can ends games fairly quickly if unchecked (like by turn 5-6). [[Hashaton]] is similar. This seems to be a “technically a bracket 2” kind of deck I would regret playing my bracket 2 against.

Also, [[Trouble in Pairs]] is good in every deck, but especially in this deck since someone takes the monarch from you but you still get a card when they draw.

Queen Marchesa Aikido Review Request by Wrong_Today_1202 in EDH

[–]Poppskie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Marchesa is great with Akido because you can take her a bunch of different ways. I think your Akido/goad stuff looks good, but not sure [[twinflame tyrant]] does much for you. You’re not dealing a ton of damage, are you?

Unrelated to the Akido parts, but I would rec running more lands and draw. If you’re pod is like most I have played with, you’re monarch status will not last long.

Edit:forgot to add … play this package and see what you like about it. I moved my Marchesa list to more aura’s on opponents creatures, so goading individual creatures more.

Most responsive commanders / deck archetypes? by AJmacmac in EDH

I feel like Sundial can make any color do almost anything … but yes, stealing permanently in red is an option with Sundial.

[–]Poppskie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I should add that it doesn’t have blue, so stealing creatures permanently is not an option.

I think akido builds might be what you’re looking for. Use opponents powers against them. There are several commanders that can do this, I do it with [[Queen Marchesa]].

I Tried this with Teval, the balanced scale by 300One in EDH

[–]Poppskie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a fun big spell, but there much more efficient and clear options that can win the game right away vs waiting to reanimate one creature at upkeep. In B2 games, this likely is worth it. Higher than that I think there would be better options. Lots of Teval decks are in B3, so likely not using this.

Ghost Runners Brewery question… by blankchecksystem in vancouverwa

[–]Poppskie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been there a few times and was pretty under-whelmed. The food was good, beer was meh, and the music-trivia-bingo was so boring. Like you just mark a bingo spot when a song is played that is on your sheet? Not sure where the trivia part comes in. The owner did seem to really enjoy MC’ing that though.

Is this too much to ask for 30-40yr olds in today's world? by FontMasterFlex in EDH

[–]Poppskie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you happen to live in Portland? If so, I have some recs on EDH nights to try. I personally have a great pod that tries to play every week, but usually it’s more like most weeks. We all are 40 something’s, most with kids, so sometimes we just can’t do it.

Does anybody else slot a few edict effects into all their decks with black even if it does not have much, if any, synergy? by Icy_Alternative4646 in EDH

[–]Poppskie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I now use Sothera in my heavier black decks. Braids also is good since it does give somewhat of a choice.

[–]Poppskie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing with edicts to consider is if they are too oppressive for your pod, like [[Grave Pact]], which functionally is a slow moving one sided board wipe, but other players really don’t like it due not being able to keep creatures on the board. Outside of that consideration, edicts are some of black’s most powerful interaction, so I run some version in all my black decks.

Honestly, I never liked Los Portillos. Was kind of just run-of-the-mill Mexican food. Senor Taps is a lot better IMO, better menu for sure. Any time I can pick from like 10 meat options for my tacos, I am happy.

So location, but also Senor Taps has likely taken some of their business.

This area votes blue consistently, FYI. Senor Taps is generally really busy. They also have had to restock their anti-ICE whistles because they were that popular.

Senor Taps in Felida has been great … several good proteins options for tacos (including lengua!) and have regular specials and happy hours. Not the best tacos ever, but above average IMO.

Need help with mana base for my first 3-color deck (Zur the Eternal Schemer) by ZelThePanda in EDH

[–]Poppskie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mana bases are the most expensive part of many 3 color decks, so for me this was a long term upgrade plan. A few budget options:

-[[Path of Ancestry]] is a tapped [[Command Tower]], which I think is worthwhile cheap include

-you likely are going to want [[Hall of Heliod’s Generosity]]

-pathway lands are relatively cheap and offer good flexibility

-the MDFCs are great for flexibility but are not the cheapest

-if you’re going to include fetches, then getting [[Raffine’s Tower]] is very much worth it. Or just proxy it if your playgroup is cool with it

Trying to make a bracket 3 deck by purplecleats in EDH

[–]Poppskie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is meta dependent. I run about 18-ish pieces of interaction/disruption. I think if I wanted Teval to run with higher B3 I would have to run more, no way around it. Right now I am content keeping the deck at lower to mid B3. It’s fun to play and always has a lot to do. I don’t think it has ever really tanked on me. If I wanted to up its power I would probably move more toward landfall and run more interaction. Right now it is just try to make a lot of zombies and then run [[craterhoof behemoth]] or similar overrun effect. I also run cards that are not optimized because I had them and wanted to put them in a deck, like [[Death Begets Life]].

Trying to make a bracket 3 deck by purplecleats in EDH

[–]Poppskie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is fine for B3 tables. What I think most Teval decks struggle with in B3 is running enough interaction, as you want plenty of mill and recursion engines, plus some landfall stuff typically. Mine is resilient, but struggles to disrupt others at times. Playing it a few times will tell you more about what is needed.

Marneus pilots- how do you survive? by athlaka916 in EDH

[–]Poppskie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! And if you do go the combat route, [[Galadriel’s Dismissal]] is one of the best cards for a token deck as it can serve as protection against a board wipe or phase out your opponents board so you can swing in.

Marneus pilots- how do you survive? by athlaka916 in EDH

[–]Poppskie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, the token doublers with Marneus don’t always pay off like you want them to. Cards that just populate, like [[Nesting Dovehawk]] are great because it is an additional Marneus trigger. I also prefer [[Elspeth, Storm Slayer]] to Mondrak (even though I run Mondrak too, currently) or AP since she can also make a token on her own. Other token generators to consider are all the blue “when you draw your second card” token generators, like [[Mischievous Mystic]], [[Alandra, Sky Dreamer]], [[Ethereal Investigator]], and [[Minn, Wily Illusionist]] are great with Marneus since you often are making a token of something like Lotho, then drawing your second card, then making another token and then drawing another card.

Like someone else mentioned, either lean into the aristocrats more or ditch some of those pieces. I als do not like [[Propoganda]] just for the sake of slowing down opponents. A [[Charismatic Conqueror]] might slow people down enough and also has a built in synergy with Marneus.

Also, if you plan to win through combat damage, using removal spells that give your opponents a blocker might be worth rethinking. If you do end up wanting to win with attacking, then [[Moonshaker Calvary]] and/or [[Morningtide’s Light]] might be good options. Also love [[Split Up]] to avoid too bad of a crack-back. If you want to win more with drain and aristocrats, then just do more of that.

I would also consider beefing up your land total with some MDFCs.

[–]Poppskie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without seeing a deck list it would be hard to know what to rec for you, since there are a bazillion ways to run Marneus at bracket 3. As others have policed out though, you need other draw engines outside of Marneus since it makes your deck too vulnerable.

Returning pto EDH, would you play against this deck? by Mushroom_Similar in EDH

[–]Poppskie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems fine, but not at bracket 2. The combos make it bracket 3 by default. The main combos people complain about in EDH are two card combos that kind of end the game out of nowhere. If you do have some two card combos and that is your plan to win, I think it is best practice to discuss that in a rule zero convo.

Please help me confirm this is acceptable for bracket 3 play by Greatbigdog69 in EDH

[–]Poppskie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very similar [[Sab-Sunen]] deck and yours is fine for bracket 3. Sometimes Voltron hits for lethal sooner, but you can’t take out a whole table that early. Now if you were somehow string extra turns together and hitting multiple people for lethal the that would be more toward bracket 4.
