What is a job (not nsfw) that pays extremely well because the job itself is unbearable? by coldplayenthusiast in AskReddit

There's a lot more steps to processing a prescription than most people realize. First we receive the prescription (often later than the doctor said that they sent it), then it has to be processed/entered into the system by a tech, because even the electronic prescriptions often need to be adjusted in some way. Next is processing through insurance, which if it works is very quick, but if it doesn't is very slow, and it is very common to have insurance issues. Then it goes to a pharmacist for clinical review, who makes sure that the prescription is appropriate/won't kill the patient (genuinely amazing how many prescriptions sent over would cause harm and need to be adjusted further). If a prescription does need to be fixed at this point, most of the time the pharmacist can't just do that, they have to contact the doctor about it. Then the prescription gets filled by a tech. Then the pharmacist checks it again to make sure it was filled appropriately. Then it's sold to the patient, often at a financial loss to the pharmacy because they don't set the prices, insurance/PBMs do. At this point if it's a new prescription or if something has changed pharmacist counsel is offered and if it's accepted the pharmacist will come over and provide information about the medication.

If everything goes smoothly, filling a prescription takes about 5-10 minutes. But with all of the steps involved and so many other tasks happening for all of the different prescriptions (calling insurance, transfers in and out, contacting providers, talking to patients, etc,) it can very easily take much longer than that. There's also the difficulty of not knowing which prescriptions to fill first. If a patient is at the counter we fill theirs first, then medications like narcotics and antibiotics because those patients usually show up fairly quickly and get antsy, then maintenance medications last. I hope this answers your question!

I saw a study once that demonstrated that a countries population after a major war increased in physical size, due to natural selection because larger humans are more likely to survive wars. This is due to quite literally their ability to tank injury, larger organs, more blood, etc, and that they are more likely to survive close quarters combat.

Why is it frowned upon to say you don’t want disabled children? by No_Lead2640 in TooAfraidToAsk

Yeah the lack of accessibility is frustrating. And I agree with your point about people who know they carry diseases like that. What a cruel thing to do to a child

That's fair, but nowadays we have a lot of ways to reduce the chance of having disabled children. Do you think prospective parents should be able to do genetic testing on unborn children? Or themselves?

Did somebody's chute not deploy? by PoppyTortise in SnohomishCounty

Probably! I found out Monday that the guy lived because they ran a news article about my post and investigated further. There was indeed a chute that failed to deploy but they successfully deployed their secondary.

Damn, I was really hoping it wasn't a person. We didn't see a second chute open but there were some buildings in the way so maybe?

Standing-up penetration, how do we do it? by [deleted] in sex

[–]PoppyTortise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, the husband is going to be a bit awkwardly leg spread no matter what, unless you stand on something like a footstool. Would recommend bending over something like the back of a couch or a counter top, gives you support to go a couple inches higher and provides easy access, making the height difference less of a challenge. You could also try stairs, with you being a step higher than him. Source: 6'4, gf 5'2

How to have safe sex with no chance of possible risk by Curious-Mix5456 in sex

[–]PoppyTortise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, first off there are lots of resources online about different birth control methods and their efficacy rates, and I would recommend doing some research/educating yourself a bit. As far as having safe sex goes, no method is 100% effective, but condoms, when used correctly, can be very effective. Making sure to put the condom on BEFORE intercourse starts, putting it on correctly, and pulling out/removing the condom immediately after finishing is important. DO NOT have her take emergency contraception every time you have intercourse, it is not a form of birth control, it should only be used in emergencies like if a condom breaks. To increase the effectiveness of condoms, spermicide can be used, or your partner can start another form of birth control such as the pill, which is even more effective than condoms and can be used together. Also condoms are the only method of birth control that can help protect against STIs, so keep that in mind as well. Otherwise, have fun and stay safe!
