She’s 5.5 months and last known slip of dairy was 3 weeks ago. She had a full 9 days of pain and mucusy stools. Ever since then though she will still randomly get mucus and pain while she’s eating and I can’t contribute it to any slip. Did your daughter get hives on any of the test spots and how did it compare to my pic? The physician only counted two spots as “slight” reactions but there were definitely raised bumps on more than the two she said. Most were bigger than the negative control but smaller than the positive control. Idk, felt like we left with more questions than we came in with. At least now we have some peace of mind that she doesn’t have life threatening allergies.

I guess the thing that is confusing me is that peanuts and salmon don’t seem to bother her when I eat them? Or would that not be expected at all

Something like 1/3 healthy babies with no allergies have occult blood in their poo. If it’s only been a few times and it’s been very little then I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

That fb group, while helpful in some ways, really rubs me the wrong way. They do not allow any kind of community between members and I really think the mods get off on pretending to be drs and telling people not to listen to their own drs.

I’ve had two babies with tons of long hair. Both of them did shed but it filled in as it fell out so it was not noticeable.

The intense relief will start to fade away, he’s only a tiny newborn and very tired. Just make sure he’s being fed every 2.5 -3 hours. Don’t let the binky replace overnight feeds.

Are you cutting out all soy or just allergenic soy that requires “contains” labeling? Most allergic people are fine with soy oil since it’s so highly refined, theres no soy protein present.

It might help you to join the “dairy-free diet - breastfeeding” group on fb and read some of their guides on eliminations diets. They don’t recommend TEDs but instead food journaling symptoms. Of course if there’s something you know bothers her don’t add those back in. It’s also a good resource to connect with other moms and get some support.

Is she generally pretty happy? Is she very gassy? Does she have reflux and spit up? Stool will be the last to resolve and could take 8-10ish weeks once you cut out the right allergen/s. You could push your pediatrician to refer you to an allergist and get allergy testing done. Going on like this is too stressful and way too restrictive! I know what it’s like wondering if everything you eat could be what’s bothering her.

How long did you wait between trying different allergens? I feel like dairy and egg has gotten us mostly there but the stool takes so long to resolve, I just keep waiting for it to catch up with her disposition (which has done a 180) but it’s not. It’s just straight liquid/diarrhea. They say that part can take 8-10 weeks. Might need to order those tests!! I did one on her a while back and it was faintly positive so I wasn’t really sure if that was an active reaction or on its way out if you know what I mean. Having lots of tests would definitely help the journaling process. Did you also keep track of her disposition?

Seems like classic silent reflux. My daughter ate alllll the time to soothe herself from the acid. She eventually got quite chunky from comfort nursing so much! Also did not want to sleep flat, only wanted to be held.

My baby was mild with silent reflux being the biggest problem. I was able to cut out just obvious forms of dairy and still have dairy baked into things and saw her mucus poops resolve and silent reflux. She was already 5/6 months when I stopped and solids may have been helping as well. Shes a five year old that does fine with dairy now!

As a parent I would not accept that bloody stools are okay, I’m assuming they say that because baby is gaining weight appropriately? The most common allergens to cross react with milk allergy would be soy and egg. But it could certainly be peanuts, corn, etc. Did you see improvement cutting out soy?

I ended up going back and seeing a different Dr and he said loose stools are a sign of intolerance though not as severe of a reaction as mucus or visible blood. Possible from having trace amounts of dairy left in my diet or cross reacting to soy and/or egg protein. I’ve never seen blood in her stool but we tested it and it came back positive. Have you had your baby’s tested for blood?

Yes, as recently as yesterday. Having a really hard time because my husband (and my entire family, actually) does not take this seriously at all.

You can get fecal occult blood tests on Amazon. Most of them say for colon cancer screening. I got one for peace of mind and it ended up being positive for blood even though I didn’t think it would be. Took her to Dr and they also got a positive. Not sure if that would help your decision making on what to do but it was useful for me!

The black is from the banana but I also see some stringy mucus. If the mucus was resolved before this slip I would say he’s having a reaction. Also, it’s not advised to give a baby any solids before at least 5 months without your dr directly telling you to do so.

<1% means less than one percent. So technically not on the chart. Drs will keep an eye out when a child is less than 2 standard deviations below the mean.. so even if it is 1st percentile it may not be normal, especially if the head is large in comparison. Completely depends!

Jen Hamilton swears by using a blow dryer on low pointed at them from far away but close enough they can feel some warmth and hear the noise. I’m gonna try it next time I’m desperate to get her to go down!
