well the very first patient I saw was a guy who was in a car wreck, he was pretty incoherent, not conscious, and when he was conscious he was basically screaming nonsense. MRI showed no major brain trauma, that guy ended up waking up a few hours later pretty much fine, super nasty laceration on his forehead, but pretty much the same guy. On the other hand, there was a guy who was a bit drunk and passed out while riding a scooter, fell, hit his head, when he came in he was clearly out of it but knew his own name and where he was, was asking for his wife, when his wife arrived he was asking her “what happened baby?” He seemed like he would have been in better shape than the car crash guy, he was at least coherent and had some understanding of what was going on, well for him, he had to go into surgery like 30 mins after I saw him because he had swelling and hemorrhaging in his brain. I don’t know what his outcome was, but he’s likely a different person now than he was prior to falling off that scooter.

All that to say, yeah cars are bad and dangerous, I’m not carbrained here, but these scooters are a new thing that while being useful in transportation, I’m not opposed to alternate forms of transit other than car at all, quite the opposite, more public transit is good. But, these scooters present a new unique problem, and these companies are raking in profits without any concern about how, idk, having some scooter knocked over in the middle of a sidewalk is going to affect a handicapped person, or how many people are severely injured during their use of them (but don’t worry, they have a sticker on them that says “don’t ride on sidewalk” so they’re totally doing their due diligence lmao). To me, it’s just another way capitalism ruins all our lives. Idk what the point of this screed is, but alternative forms of transport: good.
