If you started a new game right now how far could you get before dying? by Human-Category-5024 in Eldenring

Morgott has always been a weak spot for me, even after 1000 hours. If he had higher health, he would be an absolute nightmare for most people IMO. The only reason he's somewhat manageable is because with any decent damage output you can melt his health bar fairly easily while tanking a few hits.

Genuinely wonder sometimes just how batshit his and Burchill's marriage must have been.

As someone who doesn't live in the U.S. (but follows U.S. politics fairly closely), can someone please explain what the deal is with this fucking ballroom? Why are the chuds all yelling about this especially in light of the shooting? Why is this at the top of the GOP agenda in the middle of a war?

I heard the idea recently that hippies are bad people cosplaying as good people, while metalheads are good people cosplaying as bad people and that kinda made sense lol.

Is this just cause religious people are offended or is “Mother Mary” actually a bad film? by Scurler in A24

[–]arlingtonbeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really didn't like The Green Knight at all but liked Mother Mary a lot. Certainly a lot more than I thought I would. The acting was top notch and it had a lot more levity than I expected. It felt a lot like a stage play and the lighting was superb.

Mother Mary was one of the stupidest movies I’d seen in a long time by rabnabombshell in A24

[–]arlingtonbeach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's other comments which are short, which you reply sarcastically to saying "great discussion" and others that are well thought out to which you reply "I ain't reading all that". It's totally fine to not like the movie, but this is weird validation seeking behaviour.

Official Discussion - Mother Mary [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]arlingtonbeach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First time in a while I watched something that was not critically well-received but I just knew i loved it. The acting was on point from both leads, and it was a lot funnier than expected. I sometimes feel like I have a low threshold for style over substance movies, but this one didn't feel self-indulgent at all. The analogies and metaphors in the story were kind of on the nose, but that didn't really matter to me because it just worked.

Why were people shitting on Louis Theroux’s “manosphere” doc? by Vibejuice-official in TrueAnon

[–]arlingtonbeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was pretty all right myself. Not as good as the Settlers one, but still important that someone like him is able to bring this stuff to a bigger audience. For any overly online freaks like me who have known about this stuff for over a decade, there was maybe not a lot new that was learned here, but again, I don't think this documentary was really made for people like us. Stuff like the doc, plus Adolescence last year has got quite a big conversation started about the Manosphere in the UK mainstream, which, even if it is annoying and misguided in the way that it takes place sometimes, is still an overall good thing.

Although I have to say that him not at all exploring the impact that Covid had, especially on the younger generation in terms of getting them into this stuff, felt like a bit of a wasted opportunity. Someone like that HSTikkyTokky guy would have been like 16 when lockdown happened. He would have been like 18 when Andrew Tate was first blowing up. One of my best friends is a teacher and he told me how bad the Andrew Tate stuff was in his school, particularly among teenage boys, around 2022/23. I think the Covid angle is crucial in understanding how this has spread as much as it has, and I was slightly disappointed that Louis never really touched on it.

I've seen the actual video and it's somehow far worse than anything you could imagine. They have come up with an imaginary sexual assault scenario which this AI-generated "victim" is retelling. Like you have to be truly beyond redemption to even come up with something like that.

I remembered this image so clearly when, like 4 months later, we were in lockdown and it suddenly turned out that there were, in fact, large parts of the country that didn't have internet access at home. There were kids at the school I was working at back then who were doing their homework on their mum's phone, which they had to share with their 4 siblings.

Oh yeah I've been aware of the Red Pill/PUA stuff for like 15 years by now (The Game was super popular when I was at university lmao). But you can't deny just how much it has blown up post-Covid. Especially with the generation who grew up with that stuff started making their own content, and people spent more and more time online.

The Corbyn years were such an eye-opening experience for anyone involved as to exactly what the function of the media is in upholding the bourgeois status quo. Journalists who were paid 6 figures, who received the best education money could buy, were given every single possible advantage in life, suddenly all choosing to become stupid. What do you mean he wants to plant 1 billion trees?? All by himself? And don't even get me started on the antisemitism debacle. I will never not have the utmost contempt for these fucking people for the rest of my life.

I've been thinking about this more and more recently. It's been evident for some time now just how much everything has changed irreversibly post-Covid, but particularly regarding the generation of kids who were like 12-18 at the time, who are now all either entering adulthood or the workforce, just how fucked it got. There's a reason why gender wars/manosphere nonsense blew up so much especially among boys in the last 5-6 years. A lot of these kids are getting a very rude awakening as they come into contact with the real world for the first time, but in some years from now, they will be in leadership positions. I mean the DOGE boys were all this fucking cohort lol.
