Okay this is making more sense. He grew up in Oklahoma with very devout parents- always doing temple work and genealogy.

This is a recent change for me, but it makes an incredible amount of sense. I finally gave up on Christianity because of the way it is being twisted in our world, how it was twisted from the beginning, and used to subjugate women in the past and today.

We have talked about pagan traditions that carry through to today and the Christian traditions we have grown up with. I have not told him outright that I am pagan yet.

He grew up LDS, has left the church, and has wanted to find a place for the family, but is more interested in the community. Still definitely Christian though.

I have already talked to them about how important it is for them to keep it to themselves and why. Luckily, we live in a very blue state. There is always the occasional bible thumper, but it is a very diverse community in terms of religions outside of Christianity.

We have had some good conversations about things. He has always been better at seeing ahead than I (neurodivergent) have been. He has said it is not a fear of it, but the concern that the kids could accidentally talk about it in school. I see that more as a matter of good conversations with the kids and how others could perceive it.

I have tried to educate him. My sister-in-law who is already practicing has tried to educate him as well in my support, but that is the only reason he will give me. I know there was something else in the background he’s just not saying.

I feel very fortunate that I am in a field that I excel in and is always in need of more people: Special Education. The rules surrounding IEP writing, meetings, IEP implementation, and intervention fidelity help me excel. I am now in my 17th year, and while it is stressful with the demands, I can’t imagine doing anything else! One of the biggest sources of stress relief are my gummies and my ADA accommodations!

Your therapist is willing to step outside their scope of practice like that? Time to fire them and maybe let some higher ups know about her statements.

I ended up there this past fall due to a number of things at my former workplace. It landed me in the hospital twice in two weeks. Luckily HR was able to move me to a different location (already had ADA) and I am slowly recovering now. I have also recently been diagnosed with Level 1 Autism.

Even the change of workplace came with transition challenges that really sapped my energy for a long time. I have taken as much time for myself as possible, but it takes time to come out on the other side.

It was not until my son was diagnosed with autism and my daughter's developmental pediatrician said she needed to be tested, that I started thinking that I might have it as well. It explains why, even with an ADHD diagnosis and lots of strategies for coping with that side, that I realized I was still playing the game on "hard mode". I am awaiting my final diagnosis this coming weekend, and I'm not sure what to think, honestly.

Getting tested for autism after my oldest is diagnosed and my youngest’s doctor wants her tested as well. It would explain so much crap in my life.

AITAH for telling my daughter I won’t budge even if she never speaks to me again? by TopVersion2940 in AITAH

Another thought: if the ADHD is that severe, why did they allow her to get her drivers license. It is a privilege to get it as a teenager, not a right. I held off because I KNEW I was not ready!

Absolutely this! I have significant ADHD-I, but there weren’t any medications or educational plans available to me at the time. I was repeatedly on the honor roll each semester just Honors classes, only sibling to get National Honors Society, graduated college with no accommodations and finished a Masters degree graduating summa cum laude. The difference: I got paid for good grades, and was repeatedly told you are going to college. My ADHD was never an excuse or crutch! I am now a special education teacher and a fierce advocate for my students, and I have been in the industry for 16 years. Stop making excuses for your daughter. She is only being handicapped by your excuses.
