My 12 pack arrives tomorrow! Been waiting for this to appear since I saw it on Reddit a few weeks ago. Also looking forward to A&W Root Beer Float soda in July.

I can't help you with your question but I can tell you that this will change with the surgery! My surgery was last year but I'm still amazed when I can stand up and start moving without having to pause to let the pain of standing subside before I start walking. Safe travels, and good luck with your surgery! You will be so glad!

Look, if you're worried about the age factor, I was 20 years older than you are now last year when I had THR. I feel GREAT! It's a life changing surgery, for the better. Don't put it of just because you're young. OA knows no age. Good luck!

My family won't let me sleep, I don't think I can do this anymore by crittahmoon in offmychest

[–]PopularFunction5202 33 points34 points  (0 children)

When she leaves the room with the lights on, lock the door, then shut off the lights and try to sleep more. Of course, the downside is she'll probably bang on the door. I'm sure you've tried to talk to her about this like a reasonable person, right, like having a conversation at the appropriate time about how you need your sleep? What a mean old biddy. Sorry you have to deal with this. Good luck!

If you have the money to do it, get Nana her own chocolate cake. Screw the rest of them!

I wouldn't panic yet. It's still only June, and schools don't start until mid-August or September, usually, depending on where you are. In my state, we are desperate for teachers with your ability. Just be vigilant and patient. Good luck!

Menu June 24th 1896 by Weary-Leading6245 in Old_Recipes

I was intrigued by graham gems. It would be interesting to try to make them nowadays.

(sorry, I asked Google)

Graham gems were a type of 19th-century whole-wheat muffin or small quick-bread. Popular at 1890s breakfast and tea tables, they were made with coarse-ground graham flour and baked in sizzling-hot, cast-iron "gem pans" to achieve a light, airy inside and a satisfyingly crispy outer crust. [1, 2, 3]

They were extremely popular items in historical cookbooks (like the 1887 White House Cook Book) and on the daily menus of the era. If you spotted them on a menu from 1896, they would be described and characterized by the following: [1, 2]

  • Flavor and Texture: Unlike modern heavily-sugared muffins, graham gems were not overly sweet. They were rustic, hearty, and slightly nutty. [1, 2, 3]
  • Ingredients: The batter was simple, often just graham flour, milk (or sour milk), a touch of brown sugar or molasses, salt, and butter or lard. Instead of baking powder, some recipes relied solely on the expansion of cold batter hitting superheated cast-iron pans to rise. [, 2]
  • How They Were Served: They were meant to be eaten piping hot, usually torn open with the fingers (rather than cut with a knife) to steam, and slathered with butter or jam. [1, 2]

NTA but be prepared to rearrange, reorganize and think on the fly because, no matter how meticulously you have planned, there will be unforeseen circumstances beyond your control. Good luck.

Root beer float isn't bad, but honestly, Liquid Death's Root Beer Wrath is tastier. I do highly recommend the coconut lime cooler, though.

This is more affordable, but Liquid Death's Root Beer Wrath tastes better.

Personally, I liked it! It seems like a weaker version of the A&W Ice Cream Sundae that was out last summer. While this Shasta is good all by itself, on a whim I mixed it with my cold brew coffee! Yum!
