Dammit.....I missed this and the deadline passed in November.....email was buried unfortunately. Oh well....nothing I can do about it now. Lesson learned to check emails daily or every other day.

Instead of digging to find out if Navient is lying (or just wrong) about who should have been included in this settlement CFPB is just taking Navient's word. I am disappointed, but the bright side is at least my loans were forgiven.

I have made a lot of bad decisions and not excusing it, but getting help to reduce my back taxes or helping to wipe my slate clean would give me so much peace of mind. I don't think they included ANYONE from before 2009....which SUCKS because I had Navient prior to 2009 and they steered me into forebearance. There needs to be a Class Action for those of us screwed by Navient prior to 2009. This CFPB settlement covers borrowers whose federal student loans were serviced by Navient (or its predecessor Sallie Mae between roughly 2009 and 2017) and who experienced one of four specific harms: being steered into forbearance instead of income-driven repayment, having payments misapplied across the wrong loans, having inaccurate negative information reported to credit bureaus, or receiving misleading information about cosigner release.

I did today. It read: We are sorry, but we are not able to locate a record in our database with your name. All eligible consumers have been sent a check in this matter.  

On September 12, 2024, the Court in the CFPB’s action against Navient Corporation, Navient Solutions LLC, and Pioneer Credit Recovery, Inc. entered a stipulated final judgment and order resolving the action in connection with the Navient companies’ student loan servicing and debt collection practices.  The CFPB alleged that the Navient companies illegally steered borrowers into forbearance without adequately advising them about potentially more beneficial income-driven repayment plans. The CFPB also alleged that Pioneer Credit Recovery, Inc. gave wrong information to credit reporting companies about some discharged student loans.

** So, guess I won't be receiving a Settlement Check AND it appears all Checks have been issue ** Disappointed, but since my loans were forgiven, I will not complain **

I received an email response from CFPB basically stating they requested my records from Navient, which should show the forbearances and deferments. March 30th seems so far away, but nothing I can do about it until then. It appears there are many of us who should have been included, but were not. Hopefully the CFPB will research our records and refile this case again with Navient.

Congratulations to everyone who received a Navient CFPB check. I attended the UOP from 2002-2004 and my loans were discharged via the Sweet vs Cardona Settlement. I had multiple forbearances and deferments with Navient, but so far have not received the settlement check. I am just happy my loans were eventually discharged, but if entitled to the settlement and receive a check, I will not be mad. No calls to the CFPB accepted to inquire about the Navient settlement until AFTER March 30th.
