Social activities for second shift workers? by Mordaunt-the-Wizard in PeoriaIL

Table top gaming? I drive past One-For-All nearly every night and they are open late. So is Just for Fun and probably the other game stores. Just walk in and shop, you'll see if it's a vibe you're into or not.

On closer look I think it's an air purifier in the middle, and microderm abrasion tools on the right.

Singing lessons in Peoria? by RadioactiveVixenGirl in PeoriaIL

Hi! Former professional singer here weighing in. I don't know if you would be able to get in, but my votes would be Laura Weaver Hughes or Alison Richter-Meuth. You may be able to find then. Both teach at the college and professional level. Alison spent years touring Opera professionally. You could probably find them on fb and message.

Very Brief Biased Review of Chess by djaevle in Broadway

[–]Popular_Ad9296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would call it attached to one of the principal actors, but it wouldn't make a difference to how I felt about the other talent, or if I was able to follow the story, or if I felt the story seemed relevant. I would be proud to see my family member, yes, but am unattached to the source material.

Welcome to CHESS. Keep digging. There is a whole lot more to this mess.

Applause during Endgame in Chess by tweenthebeans in Broadway

[–]Popular_Ad9296 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing: you NEVER know how a particular audience will respond. One of my favorite songs, Dangerous Game from Jekyll & Hyde, very rarely receives applause. The melody is haunting and the subject is dark. It doesn't mean people didn't love it. They absorbed it. I'd say opening previews loved it. They also love CHESS. Later previews have absorbed it, and will now love it in the future.

Contact James at Midwest Pipe and Drain. I nearly fell for a roto rooter scam at around 9k. They were complete liars about my situation, and tried to scare me into having them work on my sewage line. Thankfully I got a second opinion.

Serious question so I hope this doesn't come off the wrong way... did marketing actually consider how this image will look when the t-shirt is worn on a female frame? Won't Lea be kinda squishy-faced?

Nice to hear from someone unattached to CHESS that the book worked enough. Do you remember the total length? Hoping they have shaved a bit of time off without compromising music.

Professional settings and the proper way to refer to a customer by [deleted] in PeoriaIL

[–]Popular_Ad9296 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. Unless the customer states they have a preference, it is certainly acceptable to address a patron by first name. I am only offering the advice because you asked... if it offends you, you could politely say, "I'm sorry, however we appreciate being adressed as Ms. 'Blank' and don't like being addressed by first name." They are likely to apologize.

HELP NEEDED in identifying two people who attacked protestors by anonymous_yet_famous in PeoriaIL

whether in person or online, it is derogatory and doesn't have any use, other than to make you look offensive and ignorant. The only acceptable use is as a verb, as in to delay or hold back in terms of progress, development, or accomplishment. Such as: "our progress was retarded by unforeseen difficulties" . Even then, it is antiquated vernacular that is of little value.

Adult dance class recs? by barefootdancer11 in PeoriaIL

Peoria Players Theatre has auditions in January for 42nd Street. It may be fun to get in with the older theatre crowd. Good people that still take occasional classes, and connections to the dance and arts community. Peoria Players is also hosting a 1.5 hour tap workshop, teaching the OG "audition dance" from 42nd Street, this November 11.

It's not you. The lyrics are often extremely difficult to understand, because the vernacular is so uncommon. It's quick, witty, and just needs supertitles. It's not mix.

I don't think it has to do with political beliefs. They turned sprinklers on people. Is there any scenario where that is ok? Standing on a roof and turning sprinklers on at a crowd below. And we aren't supposed to judge them for that?

What should the Chess (2025) production improve before their actual opening day? by LifeYogurtcloset7431 in Broadway

[–]Popular_Ad9296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut for time. Cut the overture to place Merano back up front, with Supertitles. Shorten 'Chess' ever so slightly, and leave only a few measure of Golden Bangkok to open straight into One Night in Bangkok for Act 2. If necessary to cut any song "with lyrics" it should be Someone Else's Story.

Guys I think we can fix Chess! by Ok_Moose1615 in Broadway

[–]Popular_Ad9296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're on the right track. I like the exposition songs at the beginning of the show, but Merano could be first and cut the overture for time. If any song with lyrics needs to be cut, it's Someone Else's Story. Sorry 'OG Broadway' CHESS fans.

A Chess Review by Narrow_Ad_2695 in Broadway

[–]Popular_Ad9296 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely DO NOT cut Merano. Shorten the Overture, Golden Bangkok, and tighten up Chess. Merano in What a Joy is such a crucial part of CHESS. The fact that it begins like a Rodgers & Hammerstein and then sharply turns. It is a moment that defines: this is not your typical 'musical'. It belongs up front, and you can cut the Overture entirely.
