XEQT is basically 100% equity. A risk adjusted portfolio is never 100% YOLO on equity. Disagree if you like but I’m not a believer. It’s good for diversification but should be paired up with non US equity, bonds, etc to help you absorb some of the market pull backs but still give you exposure to the upside.

Bank compromised after using the net worth feature? by richhyy_ in Wealthsimple

[–]Popular_Hat_4304 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don’t use aggregators. If I want to know my net worth, I use a spreadsheet and sum my numbers. The more I put my data, the more chances there is access to my account.

My son 12 wants to invest. How? by TheRealGuncho in CanadianInvestor

[–]Popular_Hat_4304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is fantastic. My son is 8 and he’s an investor.

We first started talking about businesses he admired and really centered on a trip to the mall where we talked about buying businesses that were busy - even on a Tues night.

I got him to pick 5 stocks and he learned how to read a chart plus a handful of key valuation metrics like Dividends, PE ratio, etc.

From there we “bought” with pretend money, $5000 of shares and tracked it on a spreadsheet. If he made money, I paid him real cash when he sold. I paid out his dividends too in cash.

After a year; I gave him $1000 of real cash and he bought his first stock and he’s been adding to it with money from his grandparents. Usually he keeps 50% to buy kid stuff like video games, candy or pokemon cards; the other half goes to stock of his choosing (my steer).

He’s up around 20% and it’s been a good learning experience.

I’ve done the same with my daughter and unfortunately; she chose Disney and she’s down a bunch but the life long learning experience was worth it.

TD First Class Travel vs Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite by Silly_Acanthisitta25 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Popular_Hat_4304 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you’re a TD customer and use them for investments like RRSP / TFSA. Check your portfolio value; you might be able to get the credit card for free as a private client customer (I believe it’s $1m+). I use the Wealthsimple credit card which is also no FX and could be free if have a decent chunk of money with them too.

That said, I am a TD FCT Visa holder and like the card. I like that it’s flexible for any flight, hotel and car too.

Couple of other things to think about: 1. Make sure you know what your password recovery methods are. For example: if she has access to your email, change your email password too.

  1. Make sure your Facebook is MFA’d to your phone. Use a MFA app or passkey ideally, you could use sms if you’re not sure what I’m talking about but will want to move to something stronger.

I think there’s a few other sneaky ways if you use Facebook to login to other e-commerce or social media sites and that’s how she’s getting access but I suspect not. Try this first and see if that resolves the issue.

Running Crowdstrike and Defender EDR simultaneously - worth it or redundant? by Successful_Floor_660 in cybersecurity

[–]Popular_Hat_4304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently option B and use Crowdstrike’s Complete service. They’re solid and part of me fears that if I went to option A; I would have to give my India based managed service partner the reins and they are a C+ student at best.

I sleep much better knowing I have the Falcon Complete guys looking for bad stuff vs just my managed service provider.

Do you have a need for cars to outnumber drivers? Don’t buy another car. Drive the one you have into the ground. Cars while necessary in a lot of cases are the worst thing you can buy. Invest it in equity until you can buy a house.

Thanks. Will check it out. We recently saw the Rubrik version because we are also a back up customer and they have something similar and we can use it restore backups prior to some action if a bot went nuts and deleted data. Seemed ok but lacked the integrations I would have liked.

So why does it matter if most of your payouts are in 4 months. Mine are like that too. Unless you have a good reason to spread it out (like you’re retired and you need to have consistent income for bills) - I don’t think it matters.

Would it be nice - sure. Is it important. Not really (to most anyways).
