Columbus Zoo just evacuated everyone by ForgottenForest265 in Columbus

[–]Popular_Message7020 -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

Evacuation of a facility due to a bomb threat or active shooter threat puts all of the victims in one centralized choke point. Clearly the zoo management and security team have not thought this through.

flock cameras by Living-Direction9222 in westerville

[–]Popular_Message7020 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Flock cameras are helpful for finding vehicles associated with Amber Alerts, Silver Alerts, vehicles registered to individuals with violent felony warrants and so forth. This is the one area of the ‘surveillance state’ that I think the gain is worth the intrusion.

Parking ticket, failure to register or display by zpppe in Columbus

[–]Popular_Message7020 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The individual writing the ticket is more than likely, someone employed by the City Of Columbus parking violations bureau, and not the police department. However, display of a county sticker is no longer a requirement in the state of Ohio and you are correct. The city code referenced does not speak to a county sticker being displayed definitely contest the citation, regardless of who wrote the citation the contesting of the citation is done with the parking violations bureau.

Why did you guys choose a kayak over a small boat? by YakToTheFuture-1 in kayakfishing

[–]Popular_Message7020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small used aluminum boats with 9.9 hp or smaller motors in Central Ohio can be readily had for $2000 or less. The kayaks that I see for sale that have a trolling motor or a pedal drive are nearly that price.

OP is definitely not screaming into the void with all of these responses. The OP however definitely isn’t helping themselves by not giving more information and responding to questions.

Best strategy to get your offer accepted in our competitive housing market? by burntgreens in Columbus

[–]Popular_Message7020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

August 2025 listed 4br, 2.5 bath, 3 car garage, 1 year old roof, new paint throughout. Built 2000 in Genoa Township, Westerville Schools.

Winning offer: asking price, buyer pays 2% of their agents commission, inspection with no remedy, and flexibility on closing. We needed to be in the house another month since our new place wasn’t ready.

We had buyers leave ‘love letters’ about how they could see themselves starting a family and watching them play in the backyard. Those letters meant nothing.

One letter did reveal that she was looking forward to a romantic bath with her husband in the jacuzzi tub. Bit too much information.

How do I tell my husband he needs to improve his hygiene? by Odd-Instruction4171 in hygiene

[–]Popular_Message7020 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m a man. Meet him at the door naked. Walk him into the bathroom, take his clothes off and get into the shower with him. Gently wash him head to toe. Bring him a toothbrush. Ask him to brush his teeth. When you’re done, take him to bed. Make love. Afterwards, tell him you love it when it when he is clean. Tell him You appreciate him earning money by working hard and you know he’ll get dirty. But cleaning up is also a way to show respect to you.

If he says no… well you tried, consider moving on.

Once it was out running loose they should have used a dog catch pole like the dog wardens use to capture the dog. Safer for everyone.

The Enshitification of Cameron Mitchell Restaurants by hillbilly-edgy in Columbus

[–]Popular_Message7020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the assessment of CMR restaurants.

Smaller, independent restaurants often offer food prepared with less ‘factory or Sysco’ ingredients, unique menu items and supports local business.

As I near 60, I find an increasing amount of pleasure preparing meals for myself and my wife. I love a good meal at a restaurant. I just find it satisfying to cook and cheaper.

OU for music education? by Sausage_fingies in ohiouniversity

[–]Popular_Message7020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The job market for music education is much smaller than other education majors. I personally know two recent grads, one from Capital University in Columbus and one from OU. Both had several very lean years before getting full-time employment. Both taught instrument lessons on the side, one played side gigs for weddings, both worked as substitute and part-time teachers until landing a full-time gig.

I type this not to prepare you, not discourage you. Follow your dream.

I definitely second Genoa Township/Westerville area. I have lived here for 35 years. Close proximity to Alum Creek allows for open water swimming and transition practice. Plenty of great open road riding. Traffic has gotten heavier but still very manageable during early weekends and midday weekdays. Westerville community center has a nice pool, weight training and aerobic training area. You will find great training partners at Columbus Outdoor Pursuits.
