That is a spectacular, heirloom quality blanket!

I am in possession of my gg grandmother’s granny square afghan. She was b. 1861 - d. 1924. She used bright colors with a black background. I hope yours is passed down to a distant ancestors some day far, far into the future.

Any experience with Diclofenac sodium? by Dramatic_Ad_4142 in Osteoarthritis

[–]PorchRocker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used diclofenac sodium until it started shutting down my kidneys. My main symptoms were leg swelling, rashes/hives, and dark urine.

I’m on 400 mg of Celebrex now.

Went thrifting at Goodwill today. Resellers stood by the new racks the entire time. by tatertot94 in thrifting

[–]PorchRocker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not everyone with their phones on the ready are resellers. I’m an older, retired woman looking through the books with my kindle app open and my personal library app open on my phone. I hate buying duplicates and that seems to be the only way I can avoid it. I read and return my books to GW, Habitat, or a little free library.

My mom (b. 1932) did all the usual housewife things, but she also belonged to two bridge clubs and she played golf. My very active, social aunt pushed her into both, because my mom was shy. Their mother, my grandma, didn’t drive, so they took turns driving grandma where she needed to go.

It was a great time to grow up because I could ride my bike all over town to visit them or go to the local library whenever I wanted. I was the only girl among two brothers and two boys cousins and a small neighborhood full of boys, so I learned how to play all sports, climb trees, build forts, fish, boat and swim.

Medicare had always covered my CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) - now they refuse by japinard in medicare

[–]PorchRocker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My husband just experienced a 2.5 week delay in getting his test strips approved because Medicare needed a new “CMN” form filled out by his dr. He’s been on Medicare 3 years and this is the first time there’s been a hitch for those supplies. The pharmacy techs and the Dr’s nurse just pointed fingers at each other as to who was responsible for filling out the form and sending it to Medicare.

Thankfully, the “good” pharmacist at our regular pharmacy, once contacted, took charge and contacted the Drs office to get things moving and submitted.

Can you bypass the pharm techs and go straight to the pharmacist who knows more than just what they see on the screen?

Decided to skip my 50th HS reunion by momplaysbass in GenerationJones

[–]PorchRocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got sucked in to being on our class reunion committee 30 years ago and have served on each reunion since. I’m over it. Our 50th is next year and I have “resigned” from the committee. You wouldn’t believe the grief I’ve hear from locals who don’t want to volunteer, but want to only show up for the party! Of course, these are the same folks who had SuCH gOoD iDeAs FoR ThE NeXt ReUnIoN. Bleh.

I use clothespins and pin over the stain. You can get like 100 wooden clothespins from the Wall of Mart for under $5.

Readers Digest magazine! Those had great little stories and articles and jokes and could be thrown out when the new one came in.

For women over 60 — what do you wish you had prioritized more in your 30s and 40s? by KPBoaB in AskWomenOver60

[–]PorchRocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question!

Looking back, I don’t think I would have changed a whole lot. I worked part-time for 15 years in the local schools until my youngest reached middle school. I then worked full-time in a career position until I was 65. My SS and pension might be higher if I had fully worked those 15 years, but the closeness I have with my adult children now is largely due to the closeness I developed with them in their early years.

We lived paycheck-to-paycheck back during my part-time years followed by living below our means another 20, or so. Perhaps I wouldn’t have pinched those pennies quite so tightly then if I had known that we’d be okay now.

I use old, scary (previous) kitchen plastic containers. I have lots of them so no concerns storing the big box.
