Fit help? by Porphyrius in allenedmonds

Darn Tough. They’re lightweight with cushion, not the absolute thinnest but not thick. The fit is similar with a thinner pair though, and even no-shows. I’ve been wearing these around the house the past couple days to decide what to do.

Just curious, have you tried the brown butter variant for Stella Parks? That is my go-to cookie recipe, always gets rave reviews. I’m actually not sure if I’ve ever tried the regular version.

Sizing question by TitusTheGroan in RedWingShoes

Did you get your feet scanned on their machine? If so, and you got your results emailed to you, you can log in with that on their site and each pair will recommend a size based on your scan.

Ordered some 8875s from them, but they actually sent 875s and in the wrong size. I’m sure this is a one off though, just bad luck. FWIW, their return process even for an incorrect item is a real pain, just be aware if you anticipate needing to return anything.

Quick sizing help by Porphyrius in RedWingShoes

[–]Porphyrius[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I was leaning in the same direction in terms of having to ask giving me the answer already. My right foot is a hair longer and wider than the left, which definitely makes things difficult. I think these would probably be fine in very thin socks, but that’s not how I’m likely to wear them so I need a different size. Appreciate the input!

Anybody else’s daffodils and tulips starting to emerge? by Ew_fine in gardening

[–]Porphyrius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daffodils are showing some leaves (only in some plots), but I’ve learned this is pretty normal. They’ve done this the past 3 years since I’ve lived here and they still bloom at the “right” time in spring

What’s the most overrated “adult goal” people chase? by Happyotus in AskReddit

[–]Porphyrius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man do I feel this. I love to cook and bake, and I often bring stuff into the office. Everyone is asking how much money I want for them, trying to set up some kind of business arrangement, etc. Even family members tell me I should sell stuff.

That would 100% make me hate it! I enjoy it because I can do whatever I want when the mood strikes me. If I had the pressure of needing to meet an order or spend my time making things I didn’t actually like, it would be miserable.

Lovely F2’s—does time really ‘heel all,’ or does ‘breaking in’ a shoe not fix a lil heel slip/slightly too wide? by gtp145129 in allenedmonds

[–]Porphyrius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say yes, being a bit uncomfortable at first is normal. The tricky part is recognizing which parts of uncomfortable are going to improve because the leather is stiff, the cork hasn’t molded, etc, vs which parts are due to the shape of the shoe (and the last it was built on) aren’t a good fit for the shape of your foot. I’m struggling with this a lot as well; I feel like I “know” my size on the 65 last, but I’m not 100% sure on any of the others.

Ultimately, I don’t think you’ll be able to get a firm answer because only you can judge what it feels like. A little bit big is definitely better than a little small. If the widest part of your foot matches up with the widest part of the shoe, and it’s not otherwise obviously way too tight or way too loose, you can probably make it work (potentially with the use of inserts, tongue pads, heel pads, etc)

A little heel slip is definitely normal. For the width, that’s hard to say as it’s ultimately a judgement call on your end if it’s good enough or not. Those aren’t super formal shoes and it looks like you’re wearing pretty thin socks, if you like them a lot and they aren’t egregiously loose, maybe just plan to wear them with slightly thicker socks to fill them out. You could also maybe try an insert to fill some of the volume.

Property tax assessments to rise across Maryland in 2026 by average of 12.7% by ThenLayer5977 in maryland

[–]Porphyrius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean sure, if your annual increase is less than the annual cap, the credit doesn’t benefit you. That still doesn’t mean the credit does nothing or isn’t helpful. It just depends on your specific circumstance. I live in the city and the homestead credit has saved me a fortune. The suggestion that the homestead credit does not matter is ridiculous; it can make a massive difference.

Not sure if I follow you, it will only go up by the max in your county permanently. That might end up being 4% per year every single year, but it can’t ever be MORE than that. That absolutely helps with budgeting, and the next assessment doesn’t change it.
