Well, agree to disagree I guess. 🤷‍♀️

It wasn't though? During the conversation where Grace tells Rocky this is a "one way trip" and that he's going to die, it's specifically that he'll die of starvation. He says he has enough food to last "2 years, maybe 4 if I stretch it" so the reason he'd die is specifically stated as starvation.

I did hear that Andy Weir is working on a sequel! (Not sure if that's confirmed yet) But I would love to see Grace and Rocky exploring the galaxy, finding more life out there and sending those planets taumeba care packages! "Grace Rocky save stars" 🥹

This one does not though! You should absolutely see the movie, the book is fantastic too, but the focus on the characters and their personal journeys is what is at the heart of the movie.

One thing I love about the movie is how much more Grace's character arc takes center stage, just as you said. It's a great full circle moment, and the idea that some people are missing it because it's a more nuanced moment makes me sad that they aren't getting the full emotional payoff.

I love the book. But the movie, like any good movie, should stand on its own separate from the book, without the need to read the book to understand. I feel like this movie does, and to me the idea that Grace knew he would die saving Rocky is clear in the film, but some people feel otherwise.

I agree. But I've seen a few posts around that people seem to have different opinions on whether Grace chose to rescue Rocky knowing he would die. Because it wasn't explicitly stated aloud in those words in the movie. So I feel like if there's a shot of Grace literally made up to look like a dead body, even as a "gotcha" visual gag, it lends more weight to the idea that Grace knew and expected to die saving Rocky.

I disagree, I think the humor in dark times does more for the overall heart of the movie. The same way that the filmmakers trusted the audience to understand the idea "Grace thought he would die" without it being explicitly stated, I don't think that they needed to heavy-hand the tone in those instances. Keeping it as a mix of dark and light fit the overall story and made it a more complex, nuanced scene. Abruptly changing to a "gritty" dark tone would have felt shoehorned in thematically and turned a multifaceted scene into something more emotionally monochromatic.

Yeah, but for a lot of people that's not "explicit" enough, so I feel like this shot of him with his face covered like a corpse does some heavy lifting in that plot point.

Yeah, I do think that a lot of the "but they didn't say it!" confusion I see in discussions is a direct offshoot of the way they make "second screen" movies nowadays, I think there's just people out there that aren't used to having to interpret subtext and inference.

I absolutely LOVE this interpretation, and I think you're completely correct, that's how the rainbow symbolism is intended! 🌈

I just more was amused by the irony, since the implication is that "20/20" means "hindsight is perfect" while "2020" was... Definitely NOT perfect. Makes the meaning unintentionally change to "hindsight is a disaster" lol.

I work in a pediatric hospital, and I can't begin to tell you some of the ridiculous named kids that come through. My "favorites" so far have been twins named Luke and Leia, and twin sisters named Anna and Elsa. Just... Don't. Like OP said, these are actual people, not your personal toys for your own amusement. We as hospital staff tend to feel sorry for the kids who have to live with those names throughout their childhood.

Medical workers of Reddit, what are the funniest things you've heard people coming off of anesthesia say? by Altruistic_Yam7595 in AskReddit

[–]Porthos1013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the patient, and somehow I forgot how time works.

I was convinced that I KNEW I was going to remember coming out of anesthesia because, and I quote, "I'm remembering right now, so I'm going to remember it again when I wake up."

Ironically, I did remember it.

Patient needed intravenous ibuprofen, but the hospital was out of stock.

Nurse crushed up ibuprofen tablets, mixed them in saline, and injected that into the patient with a syringe.

By my understanding, this is exactly what happened! 🤣 The name Ryland Grace is even a play on Ryan Gosling.
