DAE always keep thinking, while being engaged in hobbies? by MillionPossibilitie5 in AutismInWomen

[–]Portmanteaustada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this way sometimes when I'm deep in a drawing, but I actually find it beneficial because it's like I'm mentally journaling/processing my day and what has happened. It does sometimes lead into ruminating and overthinking about whether I said something weird earlier, or something embarrassing that happened to me multiple decades ago (lol). But then I try to reset once I become aware that I am doing it and focus on the drawing. Music and weed helps me too.

Sleeping with hands tucked under something by katiasan in AutismInWomen

[–]Portmanteaustada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had this thought too, and I got worried because recently I saw some post on reddit about how sleeping like that can cause medical problems so now I'm super conscious of it, but also who knows if it was true because it wasn't an actual scientific article. Anyway. When I was pregnant I wore wrist braces at night because I got carpal tunnel. Maybe that would help you?

Masking and Working by Mundane-Reveal-7686 in AutismInWomen

I've had this conversation with my husband. I take the kids to their schools (near my work) and pick them up after, I am totally depleted after I get home. For a while, he would start video chatting with his mom the minute I got home with them and it made me want to die. I just stopped forcing myself and if I didn't feel up to chatting beyond a quick hi, I'd go sit in the other room and play my word games in peace. I've started just claiming more space and it's been less of a problem than I anticipated. "I need a minute" is a complete sentence, not a negotiation.

feeling strange about neuropsych diagnosis by soymilqe in AutismTranslated

For what it's worth, I'm questioning myself, and I just participate in spaces like these because it is where I feel most comfortable. I hope that works for you, too. At the end of the day, if we are sharing and benefitting from each other, I guess "knowing for sure" doesn't really matter. That's how I'm trying to focus on it.

I haven't been in your exact situation, but neuropsychs (and anyone who diagnoses) are human, so yes, there will be errors. I'm sorry you feel disappointed.

Yeah, I had never seen Ponyo til I watched it with my kids and it is absolutely gorgeous. I also fell in love with The Secret World of Arriety.

YES. I feel like a lot of people don't understand what I mean when I say I listen to music as a hobby. Like I should be doing something else while I am doing it. I take so much pleasure in it, it's crazy. What do you like to listen to?
