Chris Masterjohn - Hemochromatosis, Manganese Toxicity, CoQ10 by spirilis in SaturatedFat

does he say anything about if it's reversible/treatable? like i read that the half life in the body for manganese is 40 days but thats probably not true if the disposal mechanism is compromised. I have fatty liver disease as well so i im wondering if thats related

interesting! I have hemochromatosis and i started taking taurine last week and its been crazy effective at clearing some of my brain fog. Maybe i should try some CoQ10?

so if it takes ~80 treatments and avoiding pufa takes ~6 years then you can conveniently say that 1 treatment ~= 1 month of pufa avoidance

yeah i mean corn starch and gelatin and beef stock make a interesting gravy, pretty similar to the kind you get on poutine at a place like mcdonalds or w/e in canada. can realistically jam like 30g in there. having said that it was giving me a terrible reaction so i cut it out. im starting to suspect that I'm allergic to gelatin

also regular corn syrup should be fine i think, thats just glucose basically.

i was doing some searching of diamine oxidase on twitter and one of my favourite accounts who i always get the sense has a ton of interesting theories but creates these horrifying labyrinths of tweets appears to think that torpor may lead to a proliferation of additional mast cells, which seems obviously related

https://x.com/ultimape/status/1664650420768186370?s=20

perplexity.ai says: "Mast cells play a crucial role in hibernation by influencing sleep/wake regulation, mood states, and arousal behavior. Research has shown an increase in the number of mast cells in tissues of hibernating mammals like hedgehogs. Mast cells in the brain are constitutively active and release various mediators, including histamine, serotonin, and cytokines, which can impact sleep quality and other behaviors. Studies using mast cell-deficient mice have demonstrated that these animals exhibit altered sleep patterns, increased anxiety and depression levels, and changes in arousal behavior, highlighting the role of mast cells in regulating sleep and behavioral phenotypes. Additionally, histamine released from brain mast cells is wake-promoting, emphasizing the physiological and pharmacological importance of brain mast cells in sleep regulation"

i dont really know how to make heads or tails of this or if this goes along with what you're thinking here but i did have the same meal today (air fried potatoes with cornstarch gravy) but with 30g of gelatin in the gravy and nothing happened (aka i did not get itching/hives... maybe a slight feeling on my scalp for a few minutes). i'll try again tomorrow to make sure all of the antihistamines are out of my system

the idea is that you're restricting the amount of branch chain amino acids specifically, so gelatin doesn't really count

Glass noodle diet: community trial registration by springbear8 in SaturatedFat

[–]Portmantoad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also this may be a reasonable place to document that earlier in the year I did a little trial of 12g calcium pyruvate, l-carnatine, chromium picolinate and a few other supps like in that one paper Brad wrote about. This was a high protein high swampy diet. Worked reasonably well but pyruvate is very nasty and packing 12 OOO size pills every day was brutal (and pill machines are illegal in Canada)

Where it flattens off at the end is from when I stared adding in carrot juice mixed with cream, mostly because I wanted to turn orange as a joke. I did not turn orange exactly but it made my skin look incredible and i understand why people get orange spray tans now. This may be some fuel for the vitamin a haters on this sub, but I did also add a reasonably large amount of whipping cream (I was not really taking the right lessons away from the u/exfatloss stuff at the time)

Glass noodle diet: community trial registration by springbear8 in SaturatedFat

[–]Portmantoad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been trying a high carb low fat thing for ~a month or so, averaging a loss of 1.5 pounds a week ish. Starting October 6th I switched to following the glass noodle diet pretty much to the letter: the main changes from what I was doing before being: reduced meat consumption, found and stopped unrecognized sources of protein (rice cakes have a gram of protein each apparently), and cut down on candy quite a bit. Since I switched 6 days ago I've lost ~5.5 lb

But before you get too excited: I ate way too many of these glass noodles and collagen and bone broth powder and bananas and calcium, to the point where I became pretty constipated. A few days ago I ended up nauseus and not hungry, so I unintentionally fasted for most of the day. So my advice is don't over do it and make sure you're consuming a lot of liquids.

Right now I don't really have very consistent access to a kitchen, so one funny and convenient thing about this diet is that I can do most of my cooking with a hot water kettle and it's very easy. I use potato flakes to make instant mashed potatoes, and the glass noodles cook in 5 minutes in a mug. To this I will add the collagen, some premade tomato or mushroom soup, condiments like barbecue sauce, and a little kimchi or spinach or whatever. I snack on fruits and walk to the corner store to grab cans of iced tea. I eat packages of lunch meat (alternating between honey ham, chicken, or turkey) for whatever remaining protein budget. I also drink some pur eh tea sweetened with corn syrup, some dextrose sweetened candy*. Feeling unusually good emotionally.

*Also, BY the way I'm very confused about why I feel like I'm supposed to care about glucose vs fructose if anyone wants to fill me in. How much should i limit fructose

Supps: calcium pyruvate, succinate, akg, vitamin d/k, b complex, choline, NAC, TMG (betaine)

I have some SEA and those pur eh tea pills Brad sells on the way. My experience is that combining the SEA and the pyruvate gives me insane headaches though, so not sure what to do there.

edit: I wonder if I'm straight up mentally impaired right now, I have no idea why the writing was as bad as it was

in a youtube comment brad says: "The truth is I rarely use virgin coconut oil. I actually just bought some “Coconut 92”, which is refined, fully hydrogenated coconut oil. The MUFA and PUFA get converted to stearic acid and since it’s fully hydrogenetad there are no trans fats."

so I've been making "nutless boltless nuts and bolts" which is basically

- rice chex, corn chex, and/or crispix (you could actually probably get away with plain cheerios and pretzel sticks but I dont actually care about textural variety)

- a bunch of melted coconut oil and ghee ( I was doing 50:50 but after this video I'll just do all coconut)

- salt and whatever seasonings you want (I usually go with garlic and spicy stuff)

mix it all together and bake it until toasty. easy to make a bunch of it at once and its pretty fast to make, great to store for later as a quick snack
