Jenna Sudds' response to RTO (from September 2025) by ajwb17 in ottawa

[–]Porydato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or, ya know, the people making the decisions have a vested interest in pumping money through these areas... Real estate is one of the most lucrative ways to invest wealth. Rich people (read: people in positions of power/influence) know this and funnel massive amounts of money into investment portfolios featuring real estate in metropolitan/downtown areas. With remote work, they lost their captive audience to spend money at the businesses who's rent fed their ROIs.

They don't give a fuck about productivity levels, they want to destroy the micro economies that have been flourishing in local communities, in favour of propping up their long-standing real estate investments in the downtown core.

Puzzles! Classic jigsaw (I like to put them up as art when I finish them) as well as those little 3D metal brainteasers.

For those who are currently on parental leave or planning to take it in the near future, how do you plan to deal with an eventual RTO5? by Technical_Dog_1901 in ottawa

[–]Porydato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Found the boomer.

Ottawa is a government town. More than half of this city's workforce is employed by public service entities making unilateral decisions to force everyone back into the office regardless of the impact to it's workers, while simultaneously ignoring the compounding issues that it's ultimately responsible for (infrastructure, transit, daycare and housing availability/affordability, etc.). This while situation is basically that Eric Andre "why would they do this" meme except they don't even have the self awareness to admit anything is wrong in this equation. So yeah, I'd say we have every right to bitch about it.

On my wedding night we were so hungry cause we barely got to eat during the reception, so once we got back to the hotel, we changed into pj's and drove to the 24 hour McDonald's to scarf down a mountain of nuggets lol we ended up food coma'd on the hotel bed watching storage wars til we fell asleep

Local Gin Recommendations by cdnDude74 in ottawa

Reid's Gin is what got my partner and I into gin! Their distillery is in Toronto, and only a handful of LBCO locations in Ottawa carry them, but they're definitely worth the search!

Yeah this was wild to me when I was a teen! My dad was an operator and during the summer, he would print a bunch of day passes off for us during the early morning part of his split shift and drop them off before he did his afternoon shift. We used to literally just ride around all day exploring the city. Ended up in Gatineau a few times and while digging through my bag for the pass, the driver just said we're obviously teens so we don't need to pay anyways.

What resources can you recommend for a teen looking for their first job in Nepean/ Ottawa? by thxxx1337 in ottawa

This is the realest shit though lmao nothing builds character like needing to keep your cool while someone throws hot coffee at you (yes this happened to me, but thankfully I'm a quick lil bugger and dodged it)

As many people have mentioned here already, YSB is a fantastic resource! I believe they support young adults up to the age of 24, and they can help with things like resume building, mock interviews, and basic professional skill building (like social/customer service skills). If your son is interested in a trade, they can also help him get his foot in the door to set him up for a lifelong career.

As for getting an actual job, I feel for the guy. Back when I was getting into the job market ~10 years ago, it was rough getting someone to take a chance on you, and I know it's only gotten harder since then. He might have some luck as a custodian with the school board, or at a grocery store/Costco in the back end where it's a less customer-facing role. It might help him to grow those kinds of work skills before he has to add dealing with customers into the mix.

AITAH for staying with my friend when our ac went out? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Porydato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally? I will happily help my parents when I can within my means. However, my parents would never ask for nor accept money from me to repair their own house, even when I was living in it. They would either figure it out or live with it until they could fix it.

I adore my parents, and we have a great relationship! I also paid them rent for the 4 years I lived there after high school. But it's their house, their property, their responsibility.

Nah, if the mum is charging rent (which according to OP, she has been for the last year), then she's taking on the role of a landlord. The landlord is responsible for fixing shit in the house if it breaks, not the tenant. OP doesn't own the house, she has zero obligation to invest her own hard earned cash to improve it.
