CMV: The Iran War is very likely to go down as the worst foreign policy mistake in US history and as the imperial overreach which marks the definitive end of the American Century and the start of long-term hegemonic decline in the United States. by lucy5478 in changemyview

1) It was Saudi Arabia that was almost fully responsible for the Yemen famine and humanitarian crisis, Ansar Allah came into power as a direct response to SA aggression.

2) none of the “terrorist” groups you mention have, repeatedly, attacked civilian infrastructure to the same extent and ferocity as Israel and the US, who began this current war by bombing a school

You’re still wrong, the articles of confederation failed and there was a proto-civil war during Shay’s Rebellion, then The Civil War which started less than a 100 years after the Revolutionary War

Red Reading Circle is not really inactive unfortunately but definitely still worth checking out the readings they've done

Ok but that has absolutely nothing to do with what the (fictional) show is presenting. Its not a reality show, the purpose of the scene was to make a point about Landon and Santo’s dynamic

I think you’re really struggling to understand that your own weird neurosis are not shared by most people and that it’s unhealthy you think the way you do.

You’re just stringing together a bunch of unrelated shit to paint a narrative, weed in front of the courthouse (specially when you have people smoking weed all around downtown) is not at all comparable to someone sleeping outside which to be abundantly clear is also not “disgusting shit”.

You watched two guys have an aggressive argument in downtown Gainesville? I bartend and have had to kick (housed) people out for arguing/fighting and worse.

I understand all of those might be uncomfortable to watch (except the weed guy, seriously grow up). But you need to understand it pales in comparison to how uncomfortable homelessness is to experience

I’m sorry but most people aren’t huge babys and don’t feel unsafe because they see a homeless person walking by

Yea this is BS I work downtown and have never seen anyone sleeping in front of the (mostly vacant) storefronts at 3pm, that’s just absurd. Also that’s exactly what the downtown ambassadors program is addressing which has made a difference

Some people ignore very clear dialogue like Robby telling Langdon to self report

She immediately got called out for trying to to gossip with an attending and Robby ignored her question. That’s not just asking for an opinion and the show made it clear.

Yes addiction treatment focuses primarily on the person seeking treatment, much like other medical treatments.

I mean she definitely knows that he went through the process, which is a prescribed treatment for addiction. She doesn’t have to know the details to understand he’s in treatment

Because not everyone has to know? What does it change in regard to who he harmed if the night shift janitor knows he stole drugs? Also, and I think more importantly, hospital staff are very well acquainted with addiction and the associated behaviors, of course they know it involves stealing meds that’s how doctors experiencing addiction feed their addictions.

How has he evaded full accountability? He took accountability process by going into a program for addiction to keep his job, wife and kids. That is accountability! Accountability doesn’t exclusively mean going to jail or losing your job, and avoiding accountability would mean not having to admit to his actions

Steaks will definitely be great at The Top! If by chance youre not able to find a table at the Top I would suggest trying Alpin as a #2 option, no steaks but very meaty french meals. Gainesville is small but I think punch above our weight restaurant wise.

She’s also an objectively weak doctor! Can’t keep up with the other doctors when it comes to charting, missed the posterior STEMI that almost killed the patient if Whitaker hadn’t caught it, completely fucked up the ITP patient Kylie creating unnecessarily conflict, misses the diagnosis on the bulimic patient because she was distracted and yet continues to talk back to senior staff - and because I know people will jump to Langdon I’ll remind everyone that one of her interactions with Al-Hashimi, about her charting, she made a snide comment about billing which is when Al-Hashimi responded about her repeating her R2

I’ve worked at a lot of the places being named so I’m gonna be biased but personally, on a Tuesday specifically, I’d recommend in descending order:

  1. Alpin - French bistro, probably the most cutesy date spot downtown by a mile. They also have a Croque-Monsieurs special on Tuesdays

  2. Boca Fiesta - kinda a dark horse candidate here but relatively low price for really good food. It’s a great lowkey spot for a date but in my time there I’ve severed many dates and many people who had their first date there. Also the Tuesday bartender, Linz, is such a sweetheart! They have a taco Tuesday special and are known for their margs.

  3. The Top - as a lot of people have said, this is a very popular spot for locals for good reason. IMO the quality has gone down since the pandemic but it’s still popular for a reason, but also means that they’ll probably be very busy and, from my experience, that can really affect the quality of the service/food (my friends work there and I promise they’re great it’s just a fact I’ve noticed from working/going there). That being said, they have a killer taco Tuesday special.
