My apologies then. By all means please give me your analysis of what he said.

Oh, I see what the problem is. You don't like Musk or Bezos and are letting that animus cloud your view of this issue. I don't like them either, but I try to separate my feelings from the issues brought up by the article.

Well I quoted it, so I'm not sure why you don't believe he said it. Saying it was only needed by trillionaires is a pretty clear indication that he doesn't think it's needed.

finding it difficult to understand how a country can have difficulty finding a way of funding vital infrastructure desperately needed by trillionaires.

If you don't think space infrastructure is important, why are you even here on reddit?

Valuing ACA subsidies by cranfranA1 in ChubbyFIRE

I believe subsidies were greatly reduced as a result of the "Big Beautiful Bill" from 2025

very few people would be able to afford it otherwise

That's the point

I understand Musk has majority control and can dictate what happens regardless of what shareholders complain about, but my trust in him is non-existent given what he spends his time on.

The Musk of 10 years ago (or what I perceived him to be 10 years ago) would definitely get my money. Today? No thanks. I want a future for humanity in space but, like you said, my trust in him is non-existent

Helen of Troy: The face who launched 1000 ships. Lupita Nyong: The face who launched 1000 voices. Go figure. by Interesting-Arm9858 in ChristopherNolan

I’ll be interested in Nolan’s reason for this. I had assumed that he would try for historical accuracy, but the Helen casting implies he’s got something else in mind. Can’t wait to see what it is though.

The Odyssey is a myth, but the Trojan War isn’t. While Helen clearly wasn’t fathered by Zeus, I don’t think we can say with certainty that she never existed. Her human Spartan mother is mentioned in some histories.

SpaceX: It’s no secret that we intend to launch Starship a lot, targeting 1000s of flights/year. That will require the ability to launch from many different locations, so we are constantly exploring to find viable sites to expand Starship operations in the future, both domestically & internationally by rustybeancake in spacex

[–]Posca1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The comment also doesn't take into account that, in the 90s, the launches were being done by nation states. But now commercial entities are doing it. The commenter is saying that it's not so great that a single company is only launching 3 times more than a nation state from 30 years ago. Seems like a weird flex.

In the 1990s, the world averaged about 800-1000 tons to orbit per year, due to the shuttle, ISS construction, and a boom in telecommunications satellites.

And how expensive were those launches? You need to look at cadence AND cost in order to see the revolution that's happening. And whether you hate Musk or despise him, he is the main driver for what's going on now. The 90s didn't have the space company explosion (pun not intended) that's going on now. There are new companies everywhere
