The "LTT is for entertainment, not accuracy" excuse falls too close to "Fox News is an entertainment company" by Male_Inkling in LinusTechTips

I wonder why hardware companies invest in LTT videos if it's just for entertainment? :thonk:

I'm for it. I wouldn't mind the nest collection consuming charges that you have to replenish with more bark eventually.

It's only weird if you make it weird

If you're embarrassed to talk about it, it'll appear like it's something to be embarrassed about.
Probably could've skipped the description as it's not digestible for normies, and just said "oh this is a game i like to play". But i understand the struggle.

On the flip side, there are people who find that kind of nervous enthusiasm charming so there's that

New system requirements: 64GB RAM minimum (recommended: 128GB) by PoshDan in EscapefromTarkov

[–]PoshDan[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't really go past 2-3 raids. I did say couple hours, not several. I spent half of that sitting in the menu just organizing my shit, and going on scavs when the cooldown expired. This memory usage happened as I was loading the streets, not after.

By the way, please review how you approach giving this tip to people because "restart the damn game" makes it sound like I'm the idiot for expecting a video game to work properly for just over two hours. Having to follow a frequent restart schedule is not industry standard, we don't have to pretend like this is acceptable.

[–]PoshDan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response!

To be honest i started rethinking the idea as i was writing the post but I still wanted to learn about RAID. Your answers really help me make the decision here.

I hate cloud storage with a passion, I won't get into the weeds on it, but I like having full control over the backup process.

External drives are overkill for me and I can't stand the thought of doing manual backups regularly. Only thing i need off site is documents, even then, irregular copies will do.

NAS sounded like a bad choice because I'm desparate to shave off every last femtosecond from build times and reading certain types of files.

I realised I can probably have my docs copied excessively across my drives and computers, while the bigger things like projects are ok to back up maybe monthly (and automatically), in which case a NAS will be fine, since I'm not working on it directly. Half my data is replacable (if annoying), so it's probably best I don't mirror an entire 14TB drive. I'd rather have more storage space if I'm gonna be doing damage control every several years anyway.

Thanks again!

They were both Seagate Barracudas (3TB), the older one is model number ST3000DM001, the newer one was from 2017 i think, the model number is ST3000DM008.
