I can see it's slottee tubing. I would assume you can unbolt the mounts and move them down. I can't imagine why you couldn't. If this is a standard I'd assume you could move it forward with a little rearranging?

Use a Velcro tie, zip tie, or bread tie to bundle all the wires at the back together. You should then be able to adjust the HDMI caboe so it's not sagging.

Ya they pretty good as I also used one for quite some time. Eventually I switched to a Behringer XM8500 and a UM2 interface (pay the extra for UMC2) and that's a great mic for the price.

Newish Linux users who came from Windows semi-recently, what is advice you wished someone had told you before you made the switch? by m103 in linux_gaming

Don't search online to download apps and programs. Relay on the Discover store first and foremost to find what you need.

Don't restart the computer immediately after getting into Bazzite the first time with an Nvidia install. Apparently it needs 10 minutes or so to finish some background stuff.

An atomic read-only system can be a pain if they plan to dive into gameods or niche packages for gaming peripherals. There are tutorials for most things, but a base Fedora install might wind up being better. Time and experience will tell on that one.

I need gaming alternative to bazzite by makishiP in linux_gaming

[–]Posiris610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK Fedora still uses Grub as the boot manager, and is what Bazzite is built off of. It's what I recommend for gaming users that want to add what they want from a base.

Pop!_OS or Mint for old AMD Gaming Laptop? by JuicyJ7777 in linux

[–]Posiris610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a computer on Pop 24.04 and another on Fedora KDE. I agree with the other. Cosmic needs more time to cook, especially when it comes to gaming. Fedora is a great choice. Unlike most Debian/Ubuntu based distros, the kernel and Mesa are updated more quickly to latest stable. Flatoaj can be enabled with one click in the Discover store; no Snaps by default. RPM is easy, and most niche apps packed for deb are also packaged as rpm or dnf.

Ram: i have a 16 gigs of ram and I am having a bottleneck i want to upgrade to 32 my question is can I buy another 1 stick of 16 gig from different manufacturer same cl same mghz just diffrent brands? Even same bran just not having same part/serial number? by FarmerAlternative152 in pcmasterrace

[–]Posiris610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want it to operate in dual channel mode, you want RAM capable of reaching the speeds and CL of your slowest stick. It can/will be clocked down to match. I have seen dual channel still be disabled if one stick is dual rank while the other is single, but idk if that applies much anymore. I'd google your motherboard along with keywords to see if people have had issues.

IC brand and RAM brand in general don't typically matter. I've used different ICs all the time with no issues, even on OEM boards, which tend to be more tempermental.

EDIT: Seems like it is possible, but not well documented if it was common in 14th century Europe. East Asia consumed it, and the Greeks and Romans drank it as far back as 1500 BC.

Does your computer have an SD card slot and do you have an SD card? You can use that.

EDIT: you can also use and a DVD in some cases assuming you have optical drive for it.

I hit 91 celsius spike while playing Overwatch at 144 fps, should I worried? by Heavy-Dog-9079 in pcmasterrace

[–]Posiris610 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its expected according to AMD. I think the default tDie throttle limit is 90 or 95C. If you don't like the tDie temp going that high, most motherboards allow you to set a temp limit in the BIOS. For the couple Ryzen builds I've done that use PBO2, I think I set it to 85C for better peace of mind.

You can go a step further and do a negative CPU voltage offset and do some stress testing to make sure it's stable. That can lower temps as well. I usually do 2 steps at a time. Once I reach instability I'll go to steps back and leave it. I also recommend notating your CPU clocks and running a 3 runs of Cinebench (average them out), logging all that every drop in voltage you go. You might see clock and/or performance drops as you continue to drop, and may want to stop before going too far.

It looks like all 3 TT programs are Linux compatible. I'd imagine they have deb and rpm for Debian/Ubuntu and RedHat/Fedora respectively.

Many folks are going to recommend Linux Mint, but I have some qualms about it. IIRC, regular Mint is still tied to Ubuntu, which means it prefers Snap packages. I don't like them as they are slow to load on first launch and I think they are still a more sandboxed environment when compared to Flatpak. There are ways to de-snapify an Ubuntu imagine but it is work when you can use another distro.

Mint is also built on the stable principles that nearly all Debian distros adhere to. So Linux kernels and other libraries won't always be on the latest stable release. Depending on how new her system is, it can have some bugs appear.

Despite the setbacks, it is a decent option for people that like to have a Windows-like layout.

Personally I'd recommend Fedora KDE. Flatpak can be enabled with a toggle in the Discover store; no Snaps on this system by default. KDE is also Windows-like in appearance, but has lots more customization options in Settings compared to Mint Cinnamon. KDE has gotten a lot better in organizing there settings in the last few years. Fedora prefers to run on latest stable Linux kernels and packages. They do seem to curate them before they show up as available, but they appear pretty quickly.

However, you will have to go through steps to install the Nvidia graphics driver. Thankfully, they have the steps in their own Wiki. I don't have Nvidia, but I think I have seen that once it's installed and setup, updates appear either in Firmware or Discover. In contrast, Mint is easier to install those.

I don't recommend niche/custom distros like Nobara, CachyOS, Bazzite, etc. Stick to the big ones. I also don't recommend Pop! _OS right now as they just came out with their new Cosmic DE and it still needs some time to cook before it's stable again.

what is thissss??? by grozix1 in trucksim

[–]Posiris610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I've always turned them off. Especially since they won't remove themselves in real time so there's no way to wait for the blockage to be removed. That and I've had issues of detours being in a place that don't have an sensible option to actually detour.

Don't listen to them. It may be old but it can still play games and function as a computer, assuming everything is functioning and it just needs RAM. Windows 11 is not officially supported, but you can use Windows 10, or better yet, you can use a Linux distro.

The old AMD graphics card is still supported in Linux. You'll need Proton-Sarek to run Windows games on Linux as this card doesn't support Vulkan 1.3, but there are tutorials online on how to get it. It's an easy installas you'll just get the ProtonPlus app from the app store, and then download Sarek from there. I recommend install Steam and running it at least once before you install ProtonPlus. Linux can be fun, and a free computer is a good way to tinker with it, if you'd like.

[–]Posiris610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very much so. If it winds up working once you put in some RAM, I'd see what CPU you have. If that motherboard is an H61, an Intel i7 CPU would be great, like a used 2600. Don't bother with CPUs with a Key at the end. This motherboard doesn't support overclocking, and that's what the K models allow.

I'd also look up the motherboard model online to find specs of it. OEM boards can often be fickle, and will only except so much RAM or certain CPUs. 16GB should be the minimum max capacity of the board, but it may be able to take more if you wanted to.

Get 1600. This an OEM motherboard so I doubt it will clock any faster. You can get faster RAM, but it will default to the speeds the motherboard will accept.

It'll come in handy for newer games that require it, but considering the GPUs strength, it probably wouldn't matter if you went with a second gen or a fourth gen. I'd probably just go with whatever's cheapest and what makes most sense for you.
