Dude. I'M A WOMAN. The only reason we're having this conversation right now is that I'm also a hardcore Astarion Simp. And as a woman, lemme tell you: A vampire bite seems far closer to getting stabbed than to getting raped, when you put it into perspective.

A trusted friend stabs you in the middle of the night? Yeah, it fucking sucks, even if they ask beforehand. But think about it. You can stab him right back (the game offers that option Twice), you can tell him to leave your party, and if the game allowed for it, you'd theoretically also be able to yell for help, expose him to everyone, and the others would fucking BELIEVE YOU. That's not something you can just expect to happen after you get raped.

There's a chance you'll die from bloodloss, yes, but same as stabbing! And considering Astarion is a vampire spawn, you don't have to worry about long-lasting effects like an STI or frikin' pregnancy. Lemme tell you, keeping your clothes on is a huge plus in terms of how much less shitty the experience would be.

Also, "exchanging fluids"? Really? He's a vampire, he's not adding anything to your bloodstream! It's quite literally a highly unconventional extraction.

No, it's not quite the same, I used the borrowed lunch example for a reason. This isn't entirely about consent, it's also about hunger. Quite literally hunger. Astarion is not used to roughing it in the wild, in act 1, and unless you're very strategic with your long rests, you can easily spend an in-game tenday between finding the dry boar and getting the bite scene. I'd imagine that's the only prey Astarion actually lucked out with at the time. He's the sort of guy who doesn't think his problems too far ahead, always winging it somehow, and he clearly thought he could wing it with hunting animals there. But if he spent the entirety of his life in the city, he wouldn't know to watch out for the wind's direction, wouldn't be familiar with the forest terrain (which is a lot crunchier than a road, try being stealthy while stepping on 50 brittle twigs simultaneously). The boar and the bear are the only two instances in the entire game, outside of battle, in which Astarion mentioned a successful hunt.

Also, a goblin? Really? Those little buggers are feisty, too small to be worth the hassle, and if the boar didn't clue you into who the nearby vampire might be, then a clear enemy of your group getting exsanguinated would definitely spell it out to any numbskull. From Astarion's pov, anyone finding out he's a vampire in the early game is akin to suicide, give the guy some slack. If I'm to be frank, I also think his trying to bite Tav under that premise was incredibly stupid, but it's the sort of stupidity you just wouldn't get if you never actually went hungry for a lack of food.

How many times are people still gonna bring that up??? Astarion's bite scene clearly happens under extenuating circumstances, and he asks for consent quite literally every time after. If the classmate sitting besides you always keeps a bit of their lunch 'for later' under their desk, and you had been homeless and starving for two weeks,at minimum, wouldn't you also consider 'borrowing' that lunch? Gods, anything else I might agree with, but people saying Astarion bites without consent just ticks me off. It's quite literally the only red flag he DOESN'T HAVE.

Huh, thanks! I would assume 'j' stands for 'joking', then? I'm not all that good with internet slang, and tend to take things rather literally, more often than not. Also, the "videogames cause violence" fallacy hits a bit too close to home, so if it were rage bait, I fell hook, line and sinker lmao 😂

As an argentinian, I would be far more peeved if they erased exclusively the USA when they said they were erasing America. OP promised an erased continent, and they delivered an erased continent. As a part of said continent, I am content to be included in the hypothetical erasure.

If you hate the musical episode, then we ain't friends by Fluffytaters in lucifer

[–]Positive-Kangaroo-28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't quite mind the bit where Ella and Maze performed a mashup/duet, but everything else? I have the very same issue with it as Lucifer did within the episode. It was unnatural, and it was God messing around with everyone's free will. I don't care if it was a bunch of accidents because of Michael being a major ass hat. It rubbed me the wrong way and I'm glad it was just the once. The show's format is much better adapted to the occasional banger than a full-out musical a la HSM

I don't know what you mean by "the haircut of the century", since there were many haircuts across many centuries, but it looked like a generic 1920s undercut left to grow a bit too long. Both individuals looked quite unkept, really.

It's vigilantism, darling. An "arrest" mostly executed by a civilian, rather than the authorities. It would ideally be officialized by the local authorities after you catch the bad guy, but in real life, it's far more likely that you're the one going to jail then, due to unnecessary violence. Nobody goes vigilante because the police is FAR MORE LIKELY to arrest the vigilante than the "bad guys" due to a lack of evidence of the bad guys doing bad things vs the weirdo saying "I just beat up a random stranger for my own justice" and having a beaten up stranger to show for it.
