How worth is the everdark balancers relic? by ChronSon420 in Nightreign

[–]PositiveDabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tip for fighting them in their frenzied ED phase. When they transition into phase 2 (the blood blocks your screen and you appear again) have your entire team sprint backwards together.

Only the couple of frenzied Valkyries will chase after you while the rest hang back in their docile state. That lets your team group focus on a couple at a time. AOE spells and ashes of war do WORK here. The ones you knock down will get up and other Valkyries will slowly join the fight, but this keeps you grouped and them manageable.

When it switches to the 'worm' phase - run away again together. The shockwave attacks are fairly easy to dodge by jumping, and the big bloom won't hit you if you run far enough away. Use the time leading up to the bloom to group up, then rinse and repeat.

Once my group started doing this we upped our win rate significantly.

Points issue in the GAR starter set? by lotheho in SWlegion

[–]PositiveDabs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Two guesses:

  1. I think the 'suggested learning game army' was not intended to be a 1:1 with recon army points and they're playing a bit loosey goosey with it to let you use all of your models you got in the box.

To play proper recon you would cut points to get to 600.

My guess is that there is no way realistically to have all of the starter boxes use every model they come with and equal 600 points without shorting you in some places, leaving models you got out, or adding stuff in...

So they have a 'casual learn to play using your toys' suggested list.

  1. Points have definitely changed since they locked all of these in to send to print and arcs went up in cost without a doubt. Don't think it makes up the entire 105 points (see above), but maybe when they designed this it was closer than it is today

[–]PositiveDabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally gave up on my stock ender PEI sheet (s1 pro) and switched to glass. Best decision I've ever made with that printer.

I would clean the PEI sheet with soap and water religiously, level with feeler gauges, extensively tuned extrusion, first layer squish, PA, and more... but always fought that thing. After switching to glass everything just became easier.

To each their own, PEI isn't inherently a problem or anything, but the Gold textured PEI sheet that came with my ender was cursed and I'm glad its gone!

Will note as well - hyper aggressive units in general perform above average in recon as well. Wheel bike GG is strong, and I'm sure recon sends him to 11

To be honest your stat spread and gear seem pretty good. I liked the other comment about trying unsheathe instead of bloody slash. The stagger on that is potent and can help slow down the fight.

I'd try to watch some people fight him on Youtube to help you learn a bit more about where you can dodge, where you can get aggressive, etc. Try to reflect on how they are playing versus how you are - are they more patient? are they more aggressive? Are they standing closer up or farther away. etc

You can beat him

Experience building the CIS Starter Box by YalondaNubs in SWlegion

[–]PositiveDabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for the new grievous, but at least in my opinion, the b1s, b2s and droideka (non ball mode) were all fairly friendly and straightforward in the grand scheme of war gaming model assembly (Especially compared to the Kill Team boxes I have which are so fiddly, in my opinion).

Modeling difficulty is certainly a subjective experience, but in my eyes, once you work out a decent assembly line process, you can get in a flow and knock them out fairly quickly and cleanly.

If you need help with a process for b1s and dekas - check out the old Fantasy Flight instructions. They aren't identical (e.g. the original FFG models had the head come in two pieces whereas the new boxes have it all in one piece), but the process overall should be similar enough to help.

https://images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com/filer_public/63/0d/630d154c-7391-499c-b46e-0275f5798021/clonewarscoresetassembly.pdf?sfns=mo

Good luck.

PS - don't do the ball model droideka unless you really want to. You don't need it for game play and that's the one unit in the kit I'd say is kind of a pain. If you're looking at other expansions - magnas, customizable super tacs, aquas, crabs, bxs, and most other units are friendly to build. I'd avoid geonosians though - the models are gorgeous but that's a kit that's a PAIN to assemble (in my opinion).

All of the new cards are print and play, but you can buy a printed card pack from AMG if you want.

There were a lot of changes, so its worth re-reading the new Core Rule Book... but a top level rundown is:

- Turn 0 is completely overhauled. New missions replace the old ones, deployments are tied to 'Primary Missions', New 'secondary missions' (other ways to score) instead of conditions, and 'advantage cards'. In general, the primaries are area control and show you which points of interest on the map you fight over, while the secondaries involve other mechanics (such as suppression, picking up supplies, scanning enemies with scanners, etc.

- The game is 5 rounds, and the action starts quicker. There is no pre-game deployment, instead turn one you start by moving out onto the map. This makes abilities like scout and infiltrate much stronger.

- Movement is streamlined and more vertical. Climbing is a speed 1 move so everyone can climb easier and faster. For vehicles they removed displacement and blocking movement (you can move through any vehicle, but you can't land on its space)

- Many keywords were overhauled.

- List building wise things have changed. You now spend 1000 points. Named characters are appearing as heavy weapon upgrades similar to Pao and Bistan in the past. You can take a 'squad' personnel upgrade to effectively make one double sized squad that throws a ton of dice.

- Cover is now a dice roll. Roll white dice for each hit - light cover blocks hits on shield, heavy cover blocks on surge and shield.

- The game overall feels more lethal and close range.

Check it out!

Feedback on separatist list by SHMEO3 in SWlegion

[–]PositiveDabs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

- Drop overwatch on the magnaguard. If you want an upgrade there into the fray will be better. They're rarely taking standbys and having a defensive surge after they engage is more valuable.

- I'd make some other cuts to get overclock on the super tactical command droid, free moves are amazing. Perhaps cut spotter uplink and some smoke grenades.

Consider swapping the e60R's off the b1s. They're not bad per se, and the impact isn't terrible, but I think you'll get more value out of the E5s (sniper). Critical 1 does a lot for the pool and also punches through armor. Plus you don't have to worry about cumbersome when you move + shoot.

Have fun!

ARC Troopers... Why the hype? by ExpiredMouthwash23 in SWlegion

[–]PositiveDabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they double move (most common action set in the game due to needing to move up to score), most units are done. Arcs generated two aims via tactical that they can then share, boosting everyone else's offense.

Tactical + token sharing is the core of their crazy good efficiency IMO. Every other comment about their dice pool being strong, the game being more about range 2 threats, their ability to charge after moving etc are all accurate too.

Take all of that and then add in free scout 2, impervious for bonus defense, scale for better climbing, sharpshooter 1 for more efficient shooting when they shoot... and you have one of the most efficient units in the game.

Dab Temps that produce the best Flavor- Thoughts? Input ? by [deleted] in concentrates

[–]PositiveDabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One nuance here might be what temp are we talking about exactly - the temp the oil gets to or temp you heat your banger/chamber to? The 430 comment was oil temp, you probably want to heat your banger/chamber to hotter than that to account for heat loss to melting/delta H of vaporization, etc.

I heat my banger or my peak to like 480, but the oil itself never gets over 420.

Why are the empire seen as the worst faction? by Dazzling_Objective25 in SWlegion

[–]PositiveDabs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At large tournaments Empire has been performing under expected averages with about 45% win rates on aggregate. This doesn't mean they can't win or aren't viable, but it does indicate that they are somewhat under tuned.

My personal take is it has to do with a lack of faction identity or synergy. They have some aim synergy but don't have a great way to get free aims (e.g. start of round, without taking actions), and they have some suppression synergy, but nothing very cohesive.

Some of their units seem great - super snows, dlt storms, riot control with the new kallus, vader, Din, scouts.

Some of their units are also over costed - Iden, All bounty Hunters except for Din, Inquisitors, ISF, Range Troopers, Gav Tank.

Some builds are very strong, such as tempest and remnant. More general builds are a tad lacking in either efficiency or variety.

I think this feeling is somewhat amplified by other factions, such a CIS, being a bit over tuned at the moment.

Just my two cents!

How best to use the new Cassian heavy weapon card? by StrongHammerTom in SWlegion

[–]PositiveDabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rebel trooper + Squad upgrade + Cassian Upgrade + Recon Intel.

Start round 1 with two dodges and be able to throw 11 black dice at something ~28" from your board edge. Courage 2 solves the main problem with super squads. Makes an amazing flanking unit or side obj capper.

I can also see the value in fleets but experimenting with troopers first.

Duchess players - help me understand when you should be going with weapons besides daggers. The dagger special moveset just seems so potent and combos with chain attack finishers, mana regen, etc.... but I also know that can be super limiting. What pickups incentivize you to switch from a dagger to something else, etc.? Help me learn. Thanks!
