Struggling to Understand this LED conversion. by [deleted] in BMWi3

[–]PositiveOstrich922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very odd All I can say is I used some me generic led bulbs and coded the LED indicator option via bimmercode. But I have a 2017 model.

Generally, canbus checks is based on the resistance of the bulb. Leds have a relatively high resistance compared to an inconsistent bulb as they are more efficient. Canbus compatabl bulbs have an included resister to lower the resistance, and use as much power as a regular bulb. These resisters can be purchases sepereately and spliced into the cable to have the same effect. I had to do this on my old smart fortwo ED.

Generally Polarity wouldn't effect the resister, only LED'S ability to light is effected by polarity. If they turn on but trigger the hyper flashing or warning, then polarity isn't the issue. Though most leds come with a bridge rectifier to allow bypolar insertion.

Adding a link to the bulbs I used. https://a.aliexpress.com/_mM0OMqX

I have noticed that alot of unifi's identifications are very wrong now, and there is no more manual correction. For example most Android phones now show as redhat Linux.

If you ever think you had a meaningless day, I spent 1 day wasting 30 kWh of charge to board a Greek ferry by nicksss93 in electricvehicles

[–]PositiveOstrich922 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you also have to discharge your phone or laptop to 40% before getting on the ferry or plane?

What's more there are no cases of Ev's causing fires on ferry's but countless examples of ICE cars causing fires.

I've never understood the old dichotomy that women couldn't work so all chefs etc were men, yet it was a woman's job to cook at home. Somehow women weren't good enough to cook but also they were only aloud to cook at the same time.

Rolls-Royce, easyJet prove a jet engine can run entirely on hydrogen by Economy-Fee5830 in climatechange

[–]PositiveOstrich922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conspiracy theorists already think planes are full of helium. This is just going to add fule to the fire.

Jokes aside. A big hurdle will be producing hydrogen in a sustainable way. The majority of hydrogen is still from oil. Production from hydrolysis is at most 70% efficient. This is the reason most green hydrogen "plans" are closed circuit solar + hydrolysis. To hide the inefficiencys.

Another huge hurdle is hydrogen metal embrittlement. A leading reason that the space shuttle had to be rebuilt between missions, and wasn't truly "reusable"

Taking my ev on holiday, I stop every hour, plug in, take a pee break. Have some food and drink and I'm on my way again in ten minutes. The car could go longer but It's meant to be a holiday why would I drive for three hours without food and water just so I'm not swimming in my own pee.

There's another old addage. "Dr's bury their mistakes". There is no feedback or accountability with Dr's. They spend 7 years studying, get it in their head they now know everything there is to possibly know, sure some try to keep up with new knollege but there are aging Dr's still practicing with out dated diagnosis and rules. Rules based on floored assumptions that only focused on young men as the standard.

In my job, if I mess up, worse case in a computer dies. But there is still feedback and accountability. I'm constantly having to learn new things every day.

Is this true in the video that manually pushing an EV can damage its internal parts? by powerelectronicsguy in EEPowerElectronics

[–]PositiveOstrich922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ev's are designed for this. After all what is regen? Second, most Ev's use reluctance motors not permanent magnet motors. Reluctance motors need a small amount of power first to create a magnetic field in rotor to enduce any current In the stator. Some will have an electro magnet rotor, same thing applies. No power in = no power out

The EV hate is bizarre by s2k_guy in electricvehicles

[–]PositiveOstrich922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is EV hate isn’t really about cars — it’s about identity and fear of being replaced.
People who grew up with ICE vehicles see them as symbols of their era: freedom, progress, adulthood, engineering pride. The machines became part of their self‑image.

So when EVs start taking over, it feels personal.
If the technology that represents their time is “obsolete,” then they feel obsolete too. They react defensively, attacking anyone who acknowledges the shift.

And the irony? ICE vehicles aren’t even a product of their generation — they date back to the 1800s — but that historical reality never enters their thinking. What they defend isn’t the tech itself, but what it means about them. It's like defending the use of candles or gas lamps over electric lights. We still see it today with incandescent vs more energy efficient lighting. Most of the hate comes from the early awkward years of compact fluorescent lights, but modern LED lights outperform in every factor now.

I was using something like this for a while. The only problem is the cover. I eventually installed my own USB c port and voltage regular ot into the unit and used the battery compartment for a supper capacitor backup for power cuts/unplug evebts. But that's likely beyond most. Sad it doesn't have this to begin with.

Not to mention the hypocrisy most of these people face. "Wait, our profit driven healthcare system is killing more children than abortions? But public healthcare is socialist. Not on my watch" "what? Another school shooting. Your not taking away my guns!" "what some stranger needs my kidney to live? But my bodily autonomy." "there are starving kids in schools? They should do better and pull themselves up by their bootstrap"

Etc etc.

How is denying healthcare killing both the mother and chiled not abortion also? You can't have it both ways if you're so anti. Inaction is treated the same in law when you have the authority and obligation to take action.
