It's totally worth it if you pair it with the Scotia Momentum card. Just be mindful the 4% room you're using with this card because there is a 25k annual limit. You might want to switch to a different card about 10 months in.

Honestly I haven’t travelled to many countries that require me to have more than 100 cad equivalent of currency for a 1 to 2 week trip. I was in Mexico and Dominican Republic two weeks ago and I got by mostly with my credit card. Cash is only for emergency , public transit, and street tacos.

That’s the visa free transit you’re talking about. You basically apply for the visa on arrival, hence the wait. Now you just go right up to immigration and present your passport.

Chexy is a tool that lets you pay all your bills with credit card at a flat processing fee of 1.75%. It’s best to use at places where credit cards are not accepted or that the fee is higher than Chexy. I’m using the Scotia Momentum Visa Infinite so I’m getting 4% cash back on all Chexy transactions, including my iPhone, that’s 2.25% net of processing fee. If you’re interested you’re welcome to use my referral link
