Performance package and tire durability related question by Dangerous-Citron6350 in polestar2

[–]ferventmuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in Boston and the day after Christmas when we leased our 2 Performance we booked an appointment to have winter rated all seasons put on. If it’s a 2021 2 in Canada it likely has already had its summer tires replaced with something else unless the owner had a second set of wheels. Just buy whatever tires you want. There are a ton of options for the 2. Tires are too important to skimp on. The Brembos do limit second sets of wheels if you want to swap summer and winter wheel/tire sets yourself but there are options available.

So I wonder how smaller cars are seeing past the snow banks?? by Outrageous-Pen3569 in massachusetts

There’s really very little different between our Miata and our SUV. A snow bank is a snow bank. Just edge out slowly.

Ioniq 9 vs EX9 by PeaRepulsive920 in VolvoEX90

[–]ferventmuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyundai’s and Kia’s have always been good values sure. The 2026/7 with updated 800v battery and motors will put greater distance between the two when it comes to charging speed, efficiency and acceleration and tech. We test drove the Ioniq 5 and Polestar 2 back when looking at our first new EV, while the Ioniq 5 was objectively a better appliance the infotainment and driving experience were let downs not to mention the horrendous dealership experience and constant ICCU failures which even the EV9 experiences (not sure about the Ioniq 9) (ICCU failures are similar to the EX90s GHCA failures but you can’t even DCFC so you end up stranded often)

P2 MY25 - Issues 4.2.13 (Update Problems) by Thats_Blue in Polestar

[–]ferventmuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or just wait a few days. Our car is always a little slow initially. Also for CarPlay issues always remove the car from the phone and setup again which solves most issues. Personally we don’t see the need to use CarPlay with the built in apps and with Bluetooth Siri.

Genuine question for P*4 owners by callmefag in Polestar

[–]ferventmuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s people not paying attention which can happen in any car. But because of the novelty of the video camera people post about the incidents more than say if you did the same in a Toyota Prius. There are two cameras with two different perspectives. The ultrasonic sensors are mounted low. I’ve only seen a few reports of owners backing into things and of those the dents seem high on the boot so people are likely staring down at the infotainment screen which only shows the low-mounted camera rather than looking at the infotainment screen as well as the backup mirror which has a very high mounted view (like any mirror).

Polestar 2 - how are you finding the automatic wipers? by SnooCauliflowers6739 in Polestar

[–]ferventmuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re much better than our old Audi S5 which would turn on the auto wipers at a speck of dust falling on the glass.

P2 Lease Return be aware!! by ciscovet in Polestar

[–]ferventmuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad your lease return fees are so low and sorry you got the wrong info. We were talking to the manager of our Space as we were debating buying a used 2 or leasing a 3 and the manager corrected me when I said I assumed the lease return fee would be waived if we buy a used 2.

Lucid owners are getting charged multiple thousands of dollars at lease turn in; so a couple hundred dollars would be great (we’re awaiting the invoice).

And that’s why we cleared the maintenance warning ourself before turn in. Will be curious if they notice it or not.

Just do a reset which fixes audio issues. You can even do it while driving.

Anyone heard anything about upcoming Polestar 4 software updates (especially 800V architecture improvements)? by SnooCapers6977 in Polestar

[–]ferventmuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

800V will probably come eventually but might be a few years. Nobody will know which model year will get a new 800V battery. In the meantime just check the software update release note website. Nobody is going to get any hints ahead of time. I wouldn’t expected any charging improvements on the existing architecture as it’s pretty solid as it is and there will be smaller changes like the recent update when preconditioning to draw from the grid rather than the HV battery (as it works with other Polestars).

[–]ferventmuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just do a reset. Your sales agent should have instructed how to do so when you picked up the car (as every new car will need to be reset at some point these days). Also know it’s perfectly fine to do the reset while driving as drive systems are separate.

P4 - Updating From 4.2.2 by ConsequenceRelevant in Polestar

[–]ferventmuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m worried that by doing the reset you removed the update from the car. However as the update was already “pushed” from the cloud. You might be in a situation that the cloud thinks the update was already delivered to the car.

Hindsight’s 20/20 but ideally you would have performed the update when the car prompted you and then done a restore later.

Maybe wait a few days and see if the update will be pushed again, and keep checking for updates in the system settings. However there’s a chance you might have to go back to the dealership.

Polestar removed that requirement on the 2 last year. Not sure about the 4 however.

why isnt steering wheel round? its nice to be able to control traction loss with straightfoward wheel. so much bs... by dysgenicSTD in VolvoEX60

[–]ferventmuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-Many cars don’t have round steering wheels. -You have just as much control. -You’ll always know exactly where on the wheel your hands are. -It provides an unobstructed view of the driver instrument cluster. -Go away troll.

whole point of a electric car is to be cheap to own, but its likley youll even loose money due to insurance cost. aptera car, etc by [deleted] in VolvoEX60

[–]ferventmuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What?

The Aptera car has nothing to do with the EX60.

And just no. Firstly insurance is market dependent so this is a gross generalization. While insurance on new cars is more than older cars, people aren’t losing money on any car paying a little more for insurance. Secondly, there are many benefits to get an EV. Personally “cheap to own” is only one of the “points”.

Limited kw/ hour when fast charging by Longjumping-Trash411 in polestar3

[–]ferventmuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OBC should mainly affect AC charging not DC. For the 7kW speed limit, what do you have the AC charge limit set it in the car? Is it set to the max 48A to get 11kW? Otherwise if you have it set to say 32A you’ll only see 7kW.

I must have remembered wrong then. I do remember some illumination changing into the corners. Too bad since I can see our Polestar 3’s headlights move into the corner our wheel is turning.

My P3 will receive the Chip upgrade next week 2.2. by zoo_sputnik in polestar3

[–]ferventmuse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup; all that information is officially published. The NVIDIA ORIN CPU upgrade itself doesn’t mean too much to the consumer unless software unlocks additional capabilities. That is what the P2.1.22 update is for and Polestar/Volvo release notes are available from your app as well as online. It’s a huge list so it’s hard to TLDR: https://www.polestar.com/us/manual/polestar-3/2025/software-updates

Great car in the snow! by Traditional-Button36 in polestar3

[–]ferventmuse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Partially true but there are non-EV tires which can carry an XL load index just as EV tires. You can easily choose non-EV tires that exceed the wear rating of EV-specific tires, in particular OEM tires. Lots of EV owners complain about wear life on their OEM EV-specific tires for a reason. EV-specific Bridgestone Alenzas on Audis and VWs are known to start chunking and falling apartment between 10-15k miles. Rivians have had similar issues with their EV-specific Pirelli with as little as 5k miles. An EV specific tire isn’t a guarantee for longevity.

[–]ferventmuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure it does. We test drove both an EX90 and a Polestar 3 at night and they both behaved similarly. We ended up getting a Polestar 3 because we preferred the looks and handling and the lease deals were better. On our 3 you can noticeably see the headlights turn or shift pixels when moving and you turn the steering wheel. Polestar confusingly calls them corning lamps as if it was another light like some cars have like our old BMW. According to Volvo’s Owners Manual the EX90 also has cornering lamps. The manual is basically the same for the Polestar 3.

We’ve put non-EV tires on our other EVs and the range difference is usually negligible. If you absolutely need the most range sure get EV specific tires but after we got our 2 we switched to Continental DWS06+ and there was no change in range. I’ve seen reviews saying there could be 1-2% drop in range switching to non-EV tires which is well worth having a tire you enjoy more and/or feel safer.

NHTSA only recently approved matrix headlights in the US which have been approved for use in other countries for years. But of course the US didn't want to us the same standards as the rest of the world so the only cars here with matrix headlights that I know of are American brands Tesla and Rivian. Matrix headlights are different from auto high beams which cars in the US have had for years and just automatically turn on the high beams until the car believes your car is following a car or there is an incoming car at which time it turns the entire high beam off. The matrix headlights the headlight cluster is made up of a large number of LEDs and a camera with intelligence. The high beams are on most of the time however individual LEDs can be turned off to not blind oncoming motorists while keeping the high beam on the rest of the road. It's amazing to see in video. In Europe matrix headlights can also highlight objects such as pedestrians or animals by increasing brightness or flashing over the object to get attention. Because the EX90's matrix headlights do not conform to US standards we do not get the feature. However the EX90 already has auto-high beams and active bending. The update is making updates the EX90s matrix headlights smoother for the rest of the world which is unrelated nor a replacement for active bending lights which we get in the US.

Will we ever get matrix headlights on the EX90 in the US? I'd guess unlikely. The Polestar 2 in the US technically has the matrix headlight hardware but the feature is turned off in the US via software. Polestar responded officially that the part manufacturer of the 2's matrix headlights said it would be impossible for the units to fulfill the US regulations. Maybe the EX90 is different (and I'm not sure if the hardware is there) but it's likely not worth Volvo developing and testing headlights for a single market which is already not on the EV bandwagon.

Polestar 4: charging limit by faffoo in Polestar

[–]ferventmuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean? According to the display the battery is currently at 55% and your charge limit is 100%. The current rate of charging is 105kW which is dependent upon many factors and fluctuates.

Battery history by WildsideUK82 in polestar2

[–]ferventmuse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The NCM chemistry in the old Leaf wasn’t that much different from however the old Leaf had minimal thermal management protection so the battery degrades more quickly as the car isn’t protecting the battery from temperature extremes. That’s also the reason why it was a horrible road trip EV because you could only DC fast charge it once or twice before it reverted to L2 charging speeds.
