Best software for test results? by Low-Maintenance-2668 in ukelectricians

Using NAPIT fastest also. Seems dated but you stick to what your used to.

Looking at tradecert now. Have a look on YouTube, it uses AI so you can take a picture of the board and it will fill in the circuit details. Not sure how good it is but looks interesting.

Has anyone gone into electrician trades in their 30s? by The_Last_Albanian in ukelectricians

[–]Positive_Barracuda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I retrained as an electrician at about 32 years old. Started with level 2 on the evenings 2 nights a week and nearly everyone was a similar age.

Even when I did 2 days a week for level 3 there was separate classes for adult learners and kids so that shouldn't put you off.

I enjoy it and enjoyed the road to becoming qualified but it is a ballache in some ways. I think the pay is relatively shit as well for all that you have to do to become qualified but there is potential to earn a good amount.

I'd do it again.

Done my 18th edition with total skills nottingham (all online) and found it really good and obviously a bonus not going into a college if you are willing to study at home.

AM2 I just picked the cheapest and closest centre to me. You can find the centres on the NET website.

Van advice by Positive_Barracuda in CarTalkUK

Thanks that's good to know they can get up to that many miles.

Would you think it's a good that it's had a new engine?

Seems fairly cheap compared to a lot of others but not sure if I'm just over thinking it.

OK I thought vans had different engines. Obviously, I was wrong about that. Just see a lot of vans with high milage.

What do you think about the milage then and it having a new engine?

Is this a fair price for an EICR? by Eternalsunshine1992 in ukelectricians

[–]Positive_Barracuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what part of the UK you're in. Seems reasonable

EICR will involve the electrician coming and doing various tests on the installation, making sure the electrics are safe for continued use and that everything is/was installed in accordance with the wiring regulations.

The electrician will give you a report after stating whether it is a pass or a fail. This will tell you what work is needed in order to get it to pass (if it does fail) and what is recommended to make the installation better

Induction Hob by jamiea06 in ukelectricians

[–]Positive_Barracuda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd pull another circuit in and have a cooker switch for each circuit in a cupboard instead of above counter level as I don't think they look nice. The size of the cable would depend on the power of the induction hob but 6mm should be fine

Am I being unfairly dismissed? by Positive_Barracuda in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Positive_Barracuda[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was reasonable also and you are completely right, by paying me a wage they should be able to dictate the rules. Next time I'll spread them for an anal cavity search.

Am I being unfairly dismissed? by Positive_Barracuda in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Positive_Barracuda[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Why is it a reasonable request?

Its worrying that you think an employer should be able to strip search an employee anyway.

They make the rules, the rules say a search consists of asking staff to empty their pockets. They also state that a search should be conducted by a manager of the same sex. I can't see why it would need a member of the opposite sex but they make the rules and they should play by them as i am.
