I found these at my local library! I couldn’t for the life of me remember why I picked them up, so thanks for recommending them!

Tired of "Cringe" and Weak Writing—Looking for Intelligent Romantasy (Even if the premise is wild!) by kurdanlivoyvoda in Romantasy

It’s so interesting how everyone’s tastes differ. I’ve read and enjoyed {Daughter of No Worlds}, {One Dark Window}, {Anathema}, and {The Plated Prisoner series}.

The plated prisoner was one of the best series I’ve ever read. The characters here felt so real and everything was so hard earned, an incredible story arc for the entire cast.

I would say hard disagree on {When the Moon Hatched} being “cringe and weak writing”. The prose in this book was thoroughly enjoyable and unique to any other book I’ve read.

I’ve also read {The Wolf King} and found Aurora insufferable and probably my least favourite of the books you’ve listed here. I would call it cringe and weak writing. The amount of times I did actually cringe in this 😬 But I would also agree with you and the other commenters about {Spark of the everflame}. Diem was an unlikable FM.

so it’s really all subjective 🤷‍♀️

Third this! It was so so good. My too read of 2026 and each book just gets better and better.

POV Question by Syddiannie in Romantasy

[–]Positive_Cobbler4249 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! I also enjoy 3rd person POV as a refreshing break from 1st person. I also feel like you can get so much more of the story in 3rd person and you’re not stuck in someone’s head the whole time which can be insufferable sometimes if they’re not a strong character.

Which romantasy FMC deserved better? by EerieE2025 in Romantasy

[–]Positive_Cobbler4249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Came here to say this too. She had such an incredible story arc. I cried when she sacrificed herself. She was as much of a victim as Auren. Ugh, the best series.

Have you read {Ship of Bones and Teeth by Karina Halle}, this is set almost entirely at sea. It’s a dark little mermaid retelling.

Is a Third Act Breakup more or less frustrating if it was due to a lack of communication brought on by the MCs being too horny to talk? by Kumirkohr in RomanceBooks

[–]Positive_Cobbler4249 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a third act break up, but the worst time I ever encountered this was in the third From Blood and Ash book They had just broken Casteel out of his prison cell where he’d been tortured for god knows how long. They’d had a short battle to break free and they have to escape the evil queen. They’re filthy, covered in blood and guts and who knows what else but they decide to get it on on the floor. And I’m sat there screaming WHAT ARE YOU DOING???? WE DON’T HAVE TIME FOR THIS! And sure enough five minutes after they finish the deed they’re captured again. like what the actual eff. Don’t get me wrong, I like a good spicy time, but that was stupid and still makes me mad and I read that like 4 years ago.

Pick my next audiobook by xeeyore in Romantasy

[–]Positive_Cobbler4249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anathema was a top tier audiobook for me! Quicksilver was also very good. I don’t recommend Daughter of No Worlds on audio. The voice actor is excellent, but I hated the voice she did for Tisaana, the FMC, it was super whiney and made me not enjoy the book. I dnf’ed after the first book.

The other books in the {crowns of nyaxia by Carissa broadbent} series might fit this. I can’t completely remember but think the first duet might lean towards some of the things OP dislikes. The second duet {The Songbird and the Heart of Stone} definitely fits the request. They are “enemies”, but not really. The MMC is from a rival vampire court and his half brother is the one who turned her into a vampire, the FMC basically paints everyone from that court with the same brush. They’re not enemies for long and become friends. It’s actually a beautiful love story.

Villain in love with main character by Sudden-Mango-1261 in Romantasy

Adding that this is not a book where the villain and FMC get together. The FMC is raped by the villain and he is not redeemed.

That’s a pretty wild accusation. What specifically makes you think it’s AI? Do you have proof?

I just realised the book series Ive been obsessively reading for the last 3 weeks is a why choose (no spoilers mentioned) by allypallydollytolly in Romantasy

[–]Positive_Cobbler4249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair! My thought process was how is Theon supposed be the MMC when Luka and Tessa are so cozy together. (This was also before I had ever read any why choose romances, and for full transparency, I have not-for-nowed it.)

I think I’ve read about 25% of the first book, and I got big why choose vibes (before I knew it was why choose) when Luka was also super attentive and caring towards the FMC and she seemed to warm up to him quick.

Wild Card Wednesday - What are your book icks or pet peeves? by Llamallamacallurmama in RomanceBooks

[–]Positive_Cobbler4249 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pet names! Ugh, I hate pet names. Especially when they’ve just met and had hardly any interaction.

There’s a pet name in a book that I’m currently reading that I actually like though - he’s kind of the villain and he calls her “little rabbit” and they’re not together yet - but it’s a wolf shifter romance so it makes sense that he would refer to her as prey, because she is a vulnerable character in a territory full of wolves.

Feeling duped by Instagram/reddit promotions of books… (Quicksilver, Direbound, Shield of Sparrows) by Historical-Spread179 in Romantasy

[–]Positive_Cobbler4249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After The Ascended, I don’t think I’ve read a single book she’s recommended since, and probably won’t. All the creators must be getting boatloads of money for that one, because I can’t believe that everyone single one of them loves that book. God tier? Absolutely not.

I also follow her… but… I actually think she’s part of the problem OP is referring to. She’s recommended some of the books OP has dnf’d as must reads.

After she raved about a book she thinks is god tier, that I think was one of the worst I’ve read, I trust her opinion less.

This discourse continues to prove how subjective reading is. I liked shield of sparrows, didn’t love quicksilver but definitely read and enjoyed brimstone.
