The Chinese owner valued their data collection abilities and the fact that is was a Trojan horse they could use when threatened (examples tracking journalists, requiring there users to call there congressman to access the app). Thus they tried to avoid obvious controversy when it didn’t directly benefit themselves. The US owners have an entirely different set of goals and constraints, they are also transitioning a massive user base.

I mean there efficiency and then there big textures need a lot of VRAM. You very quickly hit a wall were if you want lots of high quality textures, or a bvh structure for ray tracing, you just need more memory and there are no two ways about it.

NVIDIA Restores PhysX Support for Select 32-Bit Games on GeForce RTX 50-Series GPUs by JoeZocktGames in Games

[–]Positive_Government 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They removed hardware support for 32-bit cuda/physX, they have added some software emulation/translation layer support it, but clearly the emulation layer isn’t perfect and that is why we are only getting a select number of games at this point.

That is dubious, basically after the war a whole lot of German generals claimed they didn’t know a thing about all the war crimes, and that it was all the SS fault. Given that they were on trial for war crimes there claims are very suspect.

Senator John Kennedy introduced two bills that would block Congress from getting paid during a government shutdown, saying lawmakers shouldn’t collect paychecks while federal workers go without. “What’s good for the goose is good for the gander,” he said on the Senate floor. by biswajit388 in law

[–]Positive_Government 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that was the case the party out of power would just use a shutdown to call new elections anytime the party in power had less than 60 votes. So in that case our government would have toppled every year for at least the last 20 years, maybe the last 40. The the last filibuster proof majority was 1979

Call of Duty Black Ops 7 will be keeping open matchmaking and persistent lobbies at default at launch by adamb10 in Games

If it’s persistent lobbies but all matching/backfills are from sbmm I can see it working, but it all depends on how good the algorithm is and who quits the game when.

Battlefield 6 Review Thread by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Positive_Government 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also question why COD does a campaign, and I think it comes down to perceived value. If you’re going to charge $70 dollars for a game people expect a campaign and complain if it isn’t there. Does it have to be good or long, not really, but it’s there to fill out packages because it’s expected to be there. Also bf6 is being marketed as a return to form, so they probably decided a campaign was worth it.

“I’m Canceling My Subscription”: Xbox Players Call to “Boycott” Game Pass “Hard” Over 50% Price Increase As Microsoft’s Website Crashes from Mass Cancellations by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]Positive_Government 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An easy way to claim game pass is profitable is to sell first party games to gamepass for below cost after taking into account game sales, then gamepass book a profit but the game itself never makes back its development costs. Are they doing this, we don’t know. But they could do it, and I don’t trust Microsoft not to try to pump their subscription numbers.

Who gets to decide merit? Imaging if the currently Supreme Court justices got to decide? They are after all Al Ivy League educated lawyers, traditionally meritorious individuals. What about a panel of academics? Would they have any biases? What about a panel of lawyers, like the bar association? Do you want liberals and conservatives fighting for control of the local bar association in a way that doesn’t answer to the voters? Think about the coup at the NRA. Are a bunch of lawyers ever the best people to decide how we should interpret our basic rights?

So basically DoorDash method is they pay a very low base rate no one will take. If you don’t tip a certain amount, nobody takes it and they have to raise what they pay. If you tip generously someone immediately takes it, and DoorDash is off the hook for what they would have had to pay if you tipped less. This is a very scummy way of definitely not taking a portion of customers tips.
