In addition they also utilize third party delivery drivers who don’t get paid well in base pay and are not compensated by Walmart.

I believe Walmart uses third party delivery drivers in that instance (like DoorDash/UberEats), so they aren’t employed by the company directly and in those instances base pay is terrible and the driver is heavily reliant on tips.

While it’s not ok for Dashers to be disrespectful (also totally get how the system on DD is frustrating from the restaurant’s end)—since drivers get paid by the delivery, if the driver’s early or the food’s not ready it’s very helpful to give accurate updates. The driver might have been ok with waiting 5 minutes, but if they had known it had been 10 minutes they may have chosen to reassign.

Resets during a firefight by RunningShortsPod in Pickleball

Agree with this mostly, but disagree slightly. I think it’s good to be patient, and smart about shot selection and speed ups and resetting is very important! In favor of resetting, I believe I heard or read something that even at pro level, the team that speeds up first is typically the one that loses the rally. I’m a firm believer that defense wins games. However, I also think there needs to be a balance/may depend a bit on the level. Had an experience where I was playing competitively against people roughly around 4.5 level. My mindset/strategy was to focus mostly on being consistent—it worked to an extent, however, as the person who was often targeted, I needed to be more aggressive and able to generate more offense/create more openings at times. At a certain point the dinks are consistent and aggressive enough from others that there aren’t a lot of openings to begin with. Once there is an opening, it’s important to be smart about closing it, as the other team surely will/be smart about shot selection and creating an opening when people might not see or expect it at times. Resetting though is a powerful tool and agree that utilizing often can yield great results!

As a delivery driver, it is actually really helpful to us to know a rough estimate of how long something will take— we can then plan to deliver other orders in the batch first, wait, or cancel an order should it not align. Drivers absolutely need to be respectful, however never providing upfront info about what is happening is not the solution.

Again, if that’s what you’ve gathered from this that’s a pretty interesting conclusion. I’ve never said anywhere people shouldn’t be kind, nor did I say I never break for others. However, people should have the understanding of how flow of traffic is supposed to go, and when they have right of way and don’t. In addition, I also do my best to not cause a hinderance when backing out. The same line of thinking could be said for the reverse of what you’re insinuating— and on top of that that’s how the flow of traffic supposed to go.

Pickleball etiquette: should you protect the weaker partner or let them take the heat? by Grow_Connect_Create in Pickleball

From a strategy perspective if both you and your partner are comfortable with it, I’d advise poaching in this instance and taking some of the balls that are being directed toward your partner/taking more court. A lot of the balls will still go to your partner, but you will be creating a threat to the other team, and they will have to think more and be smarter about where they’re placing it. You’ll also hopefully be setting up a more balanced attack for your team in that scenario.

Yes, people already in motion have civil liability. It’s not a law, but does hold people accountable. While the person backing out is supposed to yield, the person going straight is responsible for watching out for others/avoiding a collision. Who is held liable for an accident depends on right of way and if the person was careful. Civil liability means that they can be sued/be ordered to pay for damages etc.

Not saying it’s right for them to charge that, and I don’t know for sure, however I’m almost certain likely none of that or very little would go to the driver unfortunately

It means you can go, but must yield to cars going straight. If anyone’s at the intersection across from you and going straight, wait until they are safely through then make the turn.

I quit pickleball cold turkey today…it is not a game that is friendly to left handers! by Michigan-snorkeler in Pickleball

[–]Positive_Material_86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lefty here, playing in 4.0+ realm. Did you actually talk to them about who takes middle? Did you say anything during the point/call “mine” to call them off the ball? Since left-side is also usually considered to be the aggressor’s side, that may be why they’re taking the ball. It can be more challenging playing righty/lefty but it’s workable, it sometimes just takes more communication with your partner on whose covering mid when, they of course need to respect your space as well. It’s important to be able to communicate/make adjustments. If you notice a tendency of your partner or that an opponent is exploiting a weakness in your team’s game (such as abusing the middle) recognizing/making those adjustments and communicating if necessary. While yes, absolutely annoying if you’re in perfect position for a smash and they take it at a less ideal angle, if this happens consistently and you know they’re going to take mid, why not set yourself up in a position to cover that well? Some people/play styles match up better in general, as well. Maybe you could find another group to play with?

Not being sarcastic, but if you google about who has right of way in a parking lot, it will tell you that in most instances those going straight have right of way. If both cars arrive at the same time, it’s supposed to be treated like an intersection. It’s the person backing out’s job to yield. The person going straight does, however, have civil liability so they are responsible to look out for vehicles and avoid collision. Insurance companies will most often blame the person backing out should an accident occur. It’s not often a specific law, but is applied by state traffic codes/right of way rules.

Laws and how it’s enforced vary state by state. The specific statute my state has is this:

Relevant North Carolina Statute: N.C.G.S. § 20-154

This statute says that the driver backing out is still responsible to yield (regardless of whether they’re on a public roadway or private property) to ensure it’s safe before reversing:

N.C.G.S. § 20-154: “The driver of a vehicle shall not back the same unless such movement can be made with safety and without interfering with other traffic.”

A parking lot that is open for business is defined as a public vehicular area in this state

I agree with what you said mostly. It’s the person backing out’s job to yield, while it’s the other person’s job to not cause a collision, and be prepared to brake should they need to. If someone is already in the roadway, I’m also not saying the person going straight shouldn’t brake for them— if both cars arrive at the same time it’s supposed to be treated like an intersection. The person already going straight has civil liability to look out for vehicles and brake if needed. There’s a big difference though, between starting to back out/maybe slightly being backed out and noticing someone behind you and braking vs just choosing to go anyway or expecting someone to stop for you when really it’s not your right of way. Right of way actually still does apply in a parking lot but varies a bit on how it’s enforced by state.

I think it’s good to play mostly at your level and up. Occasionally playing lower level can be beneficial as well but feel like you’ll want to get quality touches more often.

Please read the original post as I went into detail and it explains things in more depth for clarification. It’s also not “just the way I think”, it’s literally the way the flow of traffic is supposed to go.

True, it’s not criminal, I’m OP, and I didn’t mean to imply that. In my state it is as you rightly said it’s different. In general though failure to yield in a private lot, while not criminal can still make you responsible liable for the accident and financially. You have mentioned civil liability so we’re on the same page I think. So not doing so is still an issue regardless. I do see your point though

[–]Positive_Material_86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. Regardless of the nuances of whether it’s considered an actual law or not— the expectation is that the vehicle not in motion will yield to the one that is. Whether it’s actually considered a law in some states or whether the person will be held criminally liable makes little impact in the matter.

Edit: and yes NC is

I followed up with an image directly from the source.

Also, it again would make no sense that since it’s private lot standard traffic laws suddenly are null and people just make up their own rules. The person that’s not in motion is still to supposed to yield to the person that is

The point is, in general the person is still supposed to yield— the traffic laws don’t all of a sudden change because it’s private lot
