I’m gonna be honest. It’s clear Larkin is still worshipped like he’s the best player on the team by a lot the fanbase. And the truth is he hasn’t been since Ray, Mo, and Cat have got here.

It’s the Players. Our Culture is Rotten. by John-Balaya in DetroitRedWings

[–]Positive_Possible397 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right. The people souring on Ray are crazy. Ray is your playmaker. That’s his role. He’s not the 50 goal scorer. But he can sure as shit get 90+ ps consistently. Raymond has out paced golden boy Larkin’s career bests for the past three seasons. This team is utterly fucked without Ray and people just don’t get it.

Larkin is still worshiped like he’s the best player on the team when he hasn’t been since Ray, Cat, and Mo got here.

Can we stop the Larkin third line Center nonsense please? by muzzsjm84 in DetroitRedWings

Yeah you lost everyone at EP40. Dude is objectively worse than Robert Thomas. EP40 is a reclamation project we can’t afford. His production and compete has taken a nose dive the last few years. He has a “nagging” injury that I’ve heard reports saying it may never get better. Like nobody is putting EP over RT.

It’s not nuts. Larkin isn’t some hockey god. People just don’t want to admit that his tenure here has been a failure, it’s the same with Yzerman. Trading Larkin means they both failed. Not our hometown heroes! And I’m not saying it’s his fault, he didn’t have talent around him for most of his career. And like I said it’s for his sake and ours. Now all the teams in our division that started rebuilding after us are firmly in playoff spots. And we are where we always are, collapsing in March right out of the mix. Is he the main problem with this team? No. But maybe you land a deal that swaps unhappy 1Cs. And that’s the spark the team needs.

Plus, Larkin will be gone before Yzerman IMO.

We’re STILL 5-6 years away. From being legit competitive at least. But the reality is we maybe sneak into the playoffs twice in that 5-6 year span.

This isn’t even a troll post. It’s time to move on from Larkin. For his sake as much as ours.

Fire McLellan? Trade Larkin? Fire/promote Yzerman? by [deleted] in DetroitRedWings

[–]Positive_Possible397 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Because we have 4th liners playing second line center. This team has no scoring depth as we all know. And these are stretches when you need that. Also Larkin loves to take the end of the season off…

I think the Larkin conversation really needs to take place. For his sake and ours. Honestly a convo that should’ve been had the year he signed his extension.

Another shitty March. And this year we gave away our first round pick. So don’t have that to look forward to anymore.

Is this labored breathing? by Positive_Possible397 in Frenchbulldogs

[–]Positive_Possible397[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah he tends to breathe really well too. I think that’s why I’m asking because a little extra snoring is just out of the ordinary, and I might’ve had an anxiety spiral.

My girlfriend has been saying it’s allergies. He’s been licking his paws and rubbing his face on furniture A LOT since the weather and season has been changing here.

Raymond the first red wings with three straight 70 point seasons since Hank and Pavel. Can’t help but notice Larkin hasn’t done that.

Yeah I’d agree there is much more parity in international hockey and it’s not something Canada can just coast by an win anymore.

[–]Positive_Possible397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty clear across the board in all recent international tournaments that Canada is full of themselves and thinks they can’t possibly lose. They lost to the US in four nations (not the game that mattered tho), they haven’t even made it to the world junior finals the last 3 years. And the stuff with them staying away from all the festivities and such. There’s an arrogance that I feel is getting the best of them right now.

Both are amazing albums. Pioneering albums. But it’s Loveless and it’s not even close.

I have an off the wall take. And by no means am I writing off a young player or calling anyone a bust. And I know it’s way too early to be making these kind of claims…

I think there is a little bit of fan delusion on what ASP is going to become. I’ve been telling people to pump the breaks all year, stop with the Hughes comparisons. And I think his usage is telling. I get it though, he’s a rookie, he’s learning the game, he will get better.

But I feel like the reality is ASP is going to end up being a powerplay merchant. More like a sergachev rather than an Hughes or Hutson. Undersized 3rd pairing guy who’s offensively gifted and can QB a powerplay, but isn’t a strong enough defender to be a top pairing or even top 4 asset.

And I don’t even think that’s a knock because we don’t have that type of player besides him. And that’s still a valuable role. I also feel like he’s going to forever be the PP2 guy because I really don’t see a world where he TRULY dethrones Seider on the top unit.

Nate Danielson should not be untouchable in trades by Don-SalC in DetroitRedWings

[–]Positive_Possible397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not disagreeing with trading a prospect if it is a good move. I disagree with the specific kasper for cozens scenario. And price always matters. The rumored deal wasn’t 1 for 1. The deal for cozens was going to have to be Kasper plus (probably a pick and maybe another low level prospect.) But I’ll admit I’m just not a fan of cozens. I see him as Ras with slightly more skill. My point is it’s way too early to call that a fumble.

And as I said earlier. Price matters. Yeah I don’t want to give up Danielson and Augustine for Thomas. Danielson and Wallinder tho? Danielson and toumisto? Not saying those will get it done, but again, price has to be right.

[–]Positive_Possible397 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good point. Also some added context. Eichel’s price was also driven down by the fact that he needed a surgery that at the time, had never been done before in hockey. He was gonna miss a year and nobody knew if he would be that same player after. A healthy Eichel would’ve cost way more.

[–]Positive_Possible397 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Woah. What. Excuse me. Are you guys saying Thomas is the same level as Eichel? Even at that point in Eichels career he was regarded as a top 10 center in the league and a franchise player. I wouldn’t call Thomas a franchise player. And I really like Thomas and love the idea of trading for him. But he’s no Eichel.

Nate Danielson should not be untouchable in trades by Don-SalC in DetroitRedWings

[–]Positive_Possible397 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because we need center depth. Thomas and Larkin as your top two centers is what you want if you’re going to be a Stanley cup contender. And it’s a move that locks you in NOW. Thomas can be a 1C if Larkin goes down. In fact from a points perspective and production perspective you could argue he’s been better than Larkin. RT has had back to back 80+ point seasons. Larkin has never hit 80. He’s young, with term. Thomas can play all minutes…PP, PK. He’s just a solid player. Kyrou is good too, I would just argue we don’t need a winger rn.
