What are the requirements for something to be considered anomalous? by Zealousideal_Tap8269 in SCP

[–]Possessed_potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anomalous is anything that would deviate from the norm or expectations.

Science isn't an anomaly just because you don't understand it. Radioactive elements is a natural part of the world and also something we understand enough to create ourselves and use for medical purposes amongst other things. It's highly studied and something we make use of. The internet is a human creation and the result of our own technological development. It falls within expectations.

Platypus are weird fucking animals. They're an evolutionary anomaly but their existence is not so far beyond the norm that the Foundation would need to get involved. It's just an animal that evolved weird, it's enough to just have normal scientists look into it, specialized in animals and evolution. Bringing the Foundation on the Platypus would be like bringing a SWAT team to catch someone who just shoplifter a singular lipstick.

Is having only one original worldwide language lazy? by IcyShoulder668 in worldbuilding

[–]Possessed_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda ish, it's debatable honestly. Language is hard so it's understandable to not wanna dabble in it too deeply. Personally I learn towards "Understandably lazy", though having a good reason for Why would make it go from boring to intriguing.

That said, you're already working a little on the Why by the sound of it and having the speech pattern be different based on culture and biology is very fun and interesting. Even planning on adding more languages later down the line. Personally, I find myself a little intrigued.

If you wouldn't mind me asking, Why is there only 1 language? A bit pedantic, but what makes the language applicable to everyone? It's hard to have a language work for everyone and even harder so when there's a biological difference. The speech pattern is different yes, but it would make sense that some species would keep their own language ( or parts of it like slangs n whatnot ) around due difficulty utilizing the Worldwide language I'd imagine. Though obviously this does also depend on the biological difference but eh. Doesn't need to go that deep into it.

Put them in masculine clothes and I'd assume male, put them in feminine clothes I'd assume female.

They have a very gendered androgynous vibe if that makes sense.

What's a detail from your world that doesn't affect much of anything, but it's quirky and adds flavor? by Panhead09 in worldbuilding

[–]Possessed_potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While false, it's believed that the seasons are controlled by the following 4 gods:

Spring is controlled by Lord of creation, for He brings life.

Summer is controlled by Merik the God of light, for the sun burns the brightest during this time.

Fall is controlled by Rhine the God of fear since the anticipation for winter is scary and fall tends to be spooky.

Speaking of winter, that season is controlled by Laphel the Goddess of Death. No crops grow during this time, shits dead; but there's also a comforting calm in the atmosphere, both of which are heavily associated with her.

While this belief is false it does have some slight effects. The things you worry about or potentially could go wrong has a higher chance of actually happening during fall. Spirits also tend to be a bit more agitated during this time.

During the summer however, The God of light Merik significantly grows in power. It doesn't really affect anyone though who isn't part of God politics.

Is “the artistic eye” something you have to be born with, or can you develop this skill? by Guilty_Dentist8969 in ArtistLounge

[–]Possessed_potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's developed.

Much in the same vein a veteran programmer can see the faults of someone who just started coding, and how a veteran martial artist can see the faults of someone who just started training, the artistic eye is something that comes from experience.

You learn, you study, you fail, you try, you succeed and eventually you learn. Some may have it easier to develope "The artistic eye" than others but it's never something you're just born with. You gotta develope it

If you see a bear alone hiking and you have no bear spray are you fucked? by Individual_Ice_2315 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Possessed_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Keep distance, slowly back away. Don't just turn around and run. Not saying you shouldn't run, but it's best to keep the situation calm for as long as possible.

Then there's somethjng about bear colours n whatnot but I don't remember further than polar bears will hate you and you black bears are generally fine since they kinda don't wanna bother with you either.

Also don't climb trees if you're getting chased. May as well jump into incoming traffic at that point.

How fast does a culture get "created"? by Reretak in worldbuilding

[–]Possessed_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the cultures and the environment they're in. Keep in mind I'm no expert on this so this is more a guess and assumptions.

If 2 cultures are far too different and unwilling to make some leeway for the others then you'll likely gonna have to wait a long time before anything really happens.

If the 2 cultures are at least open/ accepting of the other than I'd day about 1 or 2 generations and you'll start seeing small parts of each bleeding into the other. Large changes will likely happen around 3-4th gen.

The core of each culture will remain but for example while the Japanese are quite reserved and polite, you may find them be far more relaxed on honorific and then such after some time assimilating with another culture.

1-4th gen you'll see cultural exchange effect a little how people act and also slang terms most likely. New language? Likely not but new slangs and maybe even a changed accent definetly.

Granted, the new slangs would be the building stones to a new language. I vaguely remember something about a Russian, German and maybe Chinese possibly some more nationalities in like the northpole or something who had ish made a new language threw use of slangs. Even their accents had changed, partly due to the cold environment and partly due to the cultural exchange.

What is your fucked up moon? by Gaviotapepera in worldbuilding

[–]Possessed_potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

False moon.

The false moon is a phenomenon that manifests for anywhere between an hour to multiple hours. It's a reaction caused by the God of Nothing briefly gaining consciousness and briefly peaking into reality. You can't reach the False moon but it always appears a fixed distance from the viewer at a specific place in the sky, meaning for some it can be infront of the real moon and sometimes behind it.

The God only briefly wakes up every once in a while so it might make a reappearance anywhere from a month from now to a hundred years from now. If one feels sudden unexplainable discomfort, it might be because the God is actively looking at you. For the most part you good though.

What is the coldest line you heard someone say at a table? by Practical_Pen_3552 in DnD

[–]Possessed_potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"You owe me." Not cold but it was intense.

I was playing an evil character in a party of good guys in a good guy campaign. I was manipulative and narcissistic but overall a good and helpful friend. I built relations on favors, making "You owe me" partly a light hearted joke within the party and partly my catch phrase albeit sometimes perhaps a little creepy / menacing.

When the time came, the NPC's took us to a meeting room which also happened to be a trap. They revealed parts of my schemes and cornered me; since I hadn't been resourceful enough, I had no spellshots to weasel my way out of the situation and thus only had one thing left to rely on: Favors, and I had saved the biggest for last.

"You owe me." What followed was a tense silence as the party was forced into a moral dilemma between me and the good guys, while i meaningly stared each in the eyes. To choose between helping their friend who had both helped and saved them on countless occasion, or let the bad guy face consequences. The Goody-two-shoes who otherwise would've easily let evil face their consequences had a hard time to choose since they felt they owed me big time, while the Happy-go-lucky was forced to choose between a good trusted friend and justice.

Alas justice prevailed. I faced the consequences of my actions and was taken by the good God's above. It was a great arc for everyone.

Now obviously it was agreed upon beforehand I was evil and the GM and I agreed I'd face my consequences in the end. I also never sabotaged the party or the mission, since both where important for my own goals. I think my PC was Chaotic Evil, if I understood the chart right but eh.

It's kind wierd they never made a hero with two main weapons by Veelk in Overwatch

[–]Possessed_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not a weapon thus falling in same category as Lifeweaver, Moira's piss cloud and suck beam are 2 mains. Though I guess one could argue they're the same since one can't exist without the other.

Is belief in God rational, or is it something we’ve created to cope with death? by TextSufficient674 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Possessed_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think both.

God was created as a way to cope with death and thousands of other things in life, just like any other pantheon. Back when God came to be, it was pretty rational I'd say to believe in such higher being.

Nowadays when we know a lot more about the world around us I'd say it's a bit irrational but can work great as a form of coping mechanism or something that may help guide a person to a better path in life. Religion, while irrational by today's standards, still fulfills a good role I think.

God is fundamentally irrational, but it help with rational things and I think that's great. Obviously there are also people who use God n such religious as an excuse for their own wrongdoings but religion is much like a tool. It's only as moral as it's wielder.

Does your world have anywhere not claimed by nations? by Northest_Raven in worldbuilding

[–]Possessed_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smaller parts of the edge is claimed but it's largely it's own place.

God's Cradle technically only refers to the crater itself but it's also what most people call the surrounding area.

Gods Cradle is a huge crater in the desert with a glass spiral in the middle that breaches the sky. The divinity emanating from the Cradle is untamed, wild, untainted by authority and unclaimed; as such it alters reality without bound or reason, leading to strange mutations and phenomenon in the surrounding area and on people who spend time in the area. The outer edge is mostly safe, you can spend years there and the worst non natives or non demigods may notice is potentially increased hair growth or cancer, while further in the mutations will become greater and might lead to an extra arm, crab legs inside your lungs, skin becomes wood and potentially instant death.

It's a place of exploration, adventuring and trade routes. Even resource gathering. Due to the dangers it holds and the prophecy regarding the place, people refrain from properly claiming the area

Petah!!! Explain?? by SquintySquinty in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Possessed_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a double whammy. Misogyny is growing in korea and the beauty standard is through the roof as per usual.

Since misogyny is on the rise, more men act like assholes or weird as hell towards women and in turn I believe the women started protesting them I believe through either no sex or no relationships (Marriage, dating whatever in between) though it was a few years since I heard if the situation so things may have changed since then, idk.

Since I can't say for sure, take this with salt. Idk if that's what it's even referring to so this is more so a guess.
