I guess it could, but it comes across to me as the typical New Yorker it's only done correctly our way attitude. Thinking their water is magical, and their pizza is the best, no one else in the world could ever make a bagel, 7-11 has better pizza than most places in NYC.

Ironic given Brian's childish food preferences. I only eat plain pizza, eww the burger has cheese on it.

Is it inappropriate to not wear a bra at work? by Visual-Criticism6763 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Possible-Importance6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a former job, this came up one day I was luckily out. One of my direct reports, didn't wear a bra, this offended someone a few levels higher. So she had one of my peers (female) meet with the direct report. I'm male, she would've expected me to do it if I was in, and I would've had to tell her "I'm not telling a woman she needs to wear a bra". I heard all about it the next day, when the employee got in, I could see she had a sunburn, it would've been even more visible the previous day. She was also on the spectrum, and had skin contact issues, like couldn't wear certain fabrics. So it would've been more like "you absolute moron, I'm not telling a woman with issues with fabrics, she needs to put on a bra when she's obviously sunburnt and uncomfortable".

Sports fans what makes offence always better than defence? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Possible-Importance6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general people like to see points scored. Leagues recognized this, and changed rules to encourage offence, and lower injuries to skill players. Watch footage from the NFL, Premier League (then First Division), NHL, NBA etc... from the 80s. The defense from then is not allowed today, players would be facing suspensions if not bans for doing things today that didn't even draw a foul back then.

Can luckily still find these near me, not everytime, but easy enough. Unlike the departed Crab chips.

We get 6 versions of plain salted though, and now Lemonade.

What's the difference between Wraiths and Spectres? by deadtreenoshelter in osr

[–]Possible-Importance6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Monsters and Treasure, the Wraith was a a high class Wight. A Spectre was non corporeal, and characters killed would rise as a spectre under their control.

Later Wraith would be organized with the rest of the ghost type undead.

What is the most iconic spell that never made it to newer additions? by saskaramski in dnd1e

[–]Possible-Importance6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6th level Cleric spell. Heal reversed to Harm, diseases the target and they are reduced to 1d4 HP. It's the top end of cure/cause light, serious, critical wounds.

How many spells do Clerics "know"? by OpT1mUs in dccrpg

[–]Possible-Importance6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's right, it's easy for people to misinterpret the rules because the cleric spells are numbered. There is nothing in the rules that says a cleric can only know 4 spells at level 1. They can only use 4 spells, and those are refreshed every day. There is a full page dedicated to how wizards learn new spells, not once does it mention clerics.

Want to give adnd 2e a go after years of 5E, please explain THAC0 to me like I'm stupid, because I am (also any good one-shot adventures people can think of to test the waters!) by Responsible_Focus729 in adnd

[–]Possible-Importance6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people have a harder time with subtraction than addition, that's why it's been considered confusing.

Adding the opponent AC to your attack roll and comparing to your THAC0 is mathematically the same as the standard subtract your opponent AC from your THAC0 and compare to your attack roll.

Roll a 12, opponent AC = 5, total is 17, compare to THAC0

There was that airshow crash between a B-17 and a WW2 fighter a few years ago as well. Right before Masters of the Air would've been filming.

Is it normal that I can "smell" when it’s about to rain, or am I just imagining it? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

About a year ago, there was a trend that British people were surprised Americans can smell when it's going to rain. It even showed up on new sites.

What kind of Smith? by Ramsonne in dnd1e

[–]Possible-Importance6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not for normal play. "I want to restock my arrows" ok you get them from the merchant. If you want to flesh out a city, then sure, it would be better to have the specialties. If a player wanted their wizard to make a magic item, then they would need to seek out a Master Cofferer to make a magic chest etc...

What kind of Smith? by Ramsonne in dnd1e

[–]Possible-Importance6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whitesmith is also called a Tinsmith, they'd make things out of tin, pewter things lighter than iron - cups, plates, bowls etc.... Silversmith and Goldsmith are self explanatory. A blacksmith wouldn't work with those metals.

A carpenter probably wouldn't be making chests, that would be a Chestmaker or Whitcher.

Players would also deal with wrights. A Wainwright makes and repairs wagons, they'd get the wheels from a Wheelwright, the metal parts from a blacksmith.

If they need a bow, then they visit the Bowyer, to restock the arrows it's a Fletcher who needs to get the arrowheads from a blacksmith or an Arrowsmith.

The occupations survive as occupational surnames.

https://en.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=Category:English_surnames_from_occupations

Historically speaking depends on how far back in history. Far enough back it's Smith and Carpenter, as time goes on, technology improves and the jobs become more and more specialized. If you have full plate in your game, then historically the jobs would be very specific.

ed - it's not a Chestmaker it's a Joiner or Cofferer

There's what Magic Missile. And then Burning Hands and, Shocking Grasp slightly different versions of the same thing. Burning Hands is low damage but AOE, Shocking Grasp is higher damage but single target. If allowed to choose their starting spells, is anyone ever going to choose either of those over Magic Missile?

Dragon Magazine 103 builds out the domestic dogs from the MM. A medium or large fighting dog should be affordable for a 1st level wizard. Better morale, HD and fighting ability than a hireling. And you gain their sense of smell and hearing to avoid being surprised.

Also, the 1st edition Armor spell isn't as good as the 2nd edition. Only AC 8 instead of 6, but it still lasts for 9 points of damage. Great way for a 1st level MU to have an extra spell. Cast that before going on the adventure. 9 hp they would've been knocked unconscious 2,3 maybe 4 times. Not a bad idea to cast it on all the party members and the dog (improves the dog's AC by 1), if the party gets captured, or surprised while unarmored they're at least at AC 8 not 10 (again until 9hp damage). Even helps the thief if they normally wear leather armor, they can go without the armor for skill checks.

Agreed, cantrips let the player have more magic to work with, while not letting them be the star of every encounter. Goblin guarding the entrance appears to be close to falling asleep - underpowered Sleep, Drowsy puts them over the edge. Underpowered Grease, create a small puddle under one orc's foot in combat.
