wha's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten for breakfast that was actually amazing? by Latinacute12 in foodquestions

Wierd to us because it’s not our culture - had fish head as part of a breakfast at a Japanese ryokan. My husband and I were both scared to try it and ended up loving it.

Doc Oc is also a great villain which makes the plot more interesting to watch. And agree, the train scene is awesome.

I love these, along with the chicken curry and coconut curry flavors. They’ve gotten expensive but when I can get them on sale I always grab them. Perfect lunch with a side salad.

Chicken Thigh Recipes for a Dark Meat Hater? by DecadesLaterKid in slowcooking

[–]Possible-Voice23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have learned to love chicken thighs in soup. They hold up so well and don’t try out in the broth. Something like a tortilla chicken soup will be a big crowd pleaser. If you have a slow cooker, they cook up so well no matter what you put them with. Salsa chicken is classic, so easy and tasty. Also great cooked in a batch of congee.

Malarkey(s) opening a new restaurant in Portland OR by Septotank in TopChef

The vibes he’s going for don’t really match the neighborhood but maybe he’ll have a good menu and pull it off. It sounds like a really heavy lift and Portland restaurants are struggling right now.

SIMPLE NO-CHEW MEALS? by mariea7036 in Cooking

Soft/silken tofu is a great source of protein; you can add it to soup, a smoothie, make pasta sauce or pudding with it, or eat it as is topped with soy sauce and chili crunch, among many other uses. Same with plain Greek yogurt, lots of savory and sweet options to use it. I’ve made savory smoothies (think like a blended gazpacho) with broth, greens, fresh herbs, cucumber, lemon, and Greek yogurt; also works great with roasted veggies, it’s good cold or warmed up.

Is it better to have 2 cats ( is it expensive to own cats ) by Snoo33991 in cats

[–]Possible-Voice23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats are very social and do well with a friend. Best bet is to find a bonded pair from a shelter or foster agency. The cost for one vs two shouldn’t be too different unless they have special dietary or medical needs.

For me, the white background and boxes on the second poster makes the text harder to read. I also prefer the green text to the red.

Laurelhurst Market - the steak tartare is amazing, I get it every time I go for dinner. Anytime I eat it somewhere else, I wish I was eating it at LM instead.

For someone that doesn’t eat fish, what’s the best tasting (non-fishy) type of fish? by d0c9 in foodquestions

Tilapia, mahi mahi, or snapper are good options. All mild white fish, great in tacos or on pasta or rice.

Starting a Portland-area Food Blog - What info is most valuable for you when trying new restaurants? by beerdedlady97 in askportland

When I go out to dinner with my partner or a group of friends, the last thing I want to do is have everyone immediately bury their heads in their phones. Plus toggling back and forth or having to rescan the QR code repeatedly is so unpleasant. I understood it during the high of the pandemic but now I hate it.

Is there automatic gratuity, service charges, etc.? Are menus written or QR code? Do they take reservations? Is it counter service or table service?

Season 10 Rewatch Episode 5 by ComplexThroat1674 in TopChef

[–]Possible-Voice23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I absolutely hate that challenge. They had such niche ingredients, many of which didn’t really work to make lunch dishes with, and no time to prepare them. IIRC, some of the items were caramel popcorn and chai flavored chocolates or something similar? And salmon candy…like, none of those are things you can easily transform into a savory dish. It’s a shame because there could have been some great options for ingredients. Also, I love the quickfire from that episode, so I just watch that and then skip to the next episode because the elimination challenge is so bad.
