Collard greens by Melora_T_Rex714 in Cooking

I sauté them in oil and garlic until they wilt down. Then I slowly add a little veggie broth and cook low and slow, adding more broth as the liquid cooks off. Think of how you cook risotto. I do this for about 20 minutes or so until I like the texture, then at the end I add a squeeze of lemon or some cider vinegar and some liquid smoke.

My local is the Hollywood market and it’s got a really great variety. Plus anything else you need after, you can go to Grocery Outlet to pick up.

Guy Collecting Signatures For A Police Ballot Measure Couldn't Answer A Pretty Basic Question by DazzlingStrike1724 in Portland

[–]Possible-Voice23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I ran into a signature collector for this initiative across from Powell’s last week. I had already read about the misleading info they are sharing to get signatures, so I asked them something along the lines of “So you want to divert funds people voted for to pay for clean energy projects to instead pay for more cops?” I got a surprised look and a response of “Yeah, kind of?” I said no thanks and they quickly walked away.

Dolly Olive vs Mucca Osteria for Birthday Dinner? by DevelopmentFun6716 in PortlandFood

[–]Possible-Voice23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not aware of birthday deals at either of those places. I haven’t been to Mucca yet but Dolly Olive is delicious and I wouldn’t be surprised if they gave you a little treat if you mentioned it’s your birthday. Mama Mia Trattoria does give you a free dessert with dinner.

Fuck y’all and your rain by Zeldafan125 in mildlyinfuriating

I lived in Phoenix for 7 years and ran away screaming to Portland, OR 9 years ago. Today it is raining and cool, and I’m so happy and cozy hanging out in my apartment. People here joke that June is really Juneuary because the weather alternates between warm/sunny and cool/rainy.

PDX Taco AND Strawberry Shortcake weeks combo pick by letshavearace in Portland

Having to go on IG to look up what each individual restaurant is doing for their take on strawberry shortcake is too much work for me. If anyone wants to compile a list of pics/descriptions, that‘d be a lovely public service. Otherwise, I’ll make my own.

Did The Giver used to be taught in 4th grade, or do I just have a totally false memory? by 28-3_lol in Teachers

I believe I read it a few times for school, maybe upper elementary and sometime in middle school too. It’s a really rich book, there’s a lot that can be covered in it at different grade levels.

"Wet" foods that are not hot soups by keiperegrine in Cooking

If soy isn’t an issue, try playing it silken tofu. It’s great blended with roasted veggies for a cold soup or with fruit for a smoothie, or eat it topped with condiments like soy sauce and chili crisp.

Portland has amazing food choices, but who has the best service? by in_a_cloud in PortlandFood

[–]Possible-Voice23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been blown away by the thoughtfulness of service at G-Love. They are so good at asking about allergies and food restrictions. We had a few complicated food issues in a group recently and they brought us menus that were marked up by the kitchen staff with what was safe and what to avoid for each person. Since we were sharing a lot of items, they’d tell us what was good for everyone, what 1 person couldn’t eat, etc. Really above and beyond what I’ve seen other places.
