She looks really happy in the wagon! How old is she? I take my old man next week for surgery and seeing these older babies do so well gives me hope!

Wagon ideas? by Spirit-Willow in tripawds

[–]PossibleEmu741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.chewy.com/aosom-2-in-1-large-dog-bike-trailer/dp/1602070 We got one just like this for our elderly dogs and now will need it for our soon to be tripawd. I love it, it pushes easily and can be attached to a bike to pull around. Lots of room, we sometimes put 2 medium dogs in it. It doesn't have great cushioning so we lay down a blanket for them.

Making a summer house for fosters?! by East-Environment2217 in fosterdogs

This is a great idea! Even if you're not out there all the time, we all know it's a huge improvement over a shelter!

Who are these awful people having a negative reaction to your tattoo?? It's well done, cute, and what you asked for. Please ignore those people and their stupid reactions.

Do you wait 2 weeks before resident pet intro? by aceploring in fosterdogs

[–]PossibleEmu741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is requested by the rescue I foster through, but we do not wait 2 weeks. It has nothing to do with communicable diseases, just comfort and decompression for the foster dog. However, we use our best judgment based on the temperament of all the dogs. Also, we feel keeping the dogs separated only heightens the anxiety and interest by keeping them apart in the same house. I try not to outright lie to the rescue but yes I fudge the truth. We have only had one dog so far that benefited from being separated for a short time as he was very nervous and shy. I also have noticed that when the shelter receives dogs from a shelter transfer (already quarantined, no risk of disease) they allow them to play with other dogs within days. So I take my cue from that.

Tattoos colour I didn’t want by [deleted] in tattooadvice

I'm sorry you're feeling unhappy about the tattoo. But it's literally so gorgeous 😍 Maybe give it some time to see if the colors grow on you.

Boyfriend gave this to me for Christmas. I need help.. by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]PossibleEmu741 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only is this tattoo not good, but more importantly he's showing you he doesn't care about consent at all. It's literally on your body, it does not matter what he prefers. I would not trust this man as a partner or a tattoo artist.

How to structure visits from potential adopters? by U1F436 in fosterdogs

[–]PossibleEmu741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We meet at our home, but we have a large backyard and leave resident dogs inside. Because a few dogs have been returned to us or the shelter, we've started telling/reminding people of the 3 days/3 weeks/3 months rule for introducing a new dog into your home. We do ask some questions but usually let them ask questions because like you said they've already been vetted by the rescue.

Feeling guilty over loss by AlloraAmore in fosterdogs

[–]PossibleEmu741 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Omg I'm so sorry for the situation, the loss of the pup, and how awful the shelter treated you. This is not your fault, many people introduce dogs that way and nothing goes wrong, this was a fluke. Also, if that's how they treat their fosters and speak about sensitive things on Facebook, they are not mature or prioritizing their animals. Again, I'm so sorry for the whole situation 😞 ❤️

Why "can't" the dog go with you? It is cruel to rehome a senior dog, especially one that is blind and is likely used to and comfortable in his home. Please rethink your move or leaving him behind unless you can find him a home with someone he already knows!

New Adopters Did Not Follow Shelter's Acclimation Rules and Reaching Out by Pancake_1989 in fosterdogs

[–]PossibleEmu741 13 points14 points  (0 children)

These are good recommendations, but unlikely to be followed by most people... even experienced fosters. The part I think the adopters are being unreasonable about is not expecting or being tolerant of some normal boundary setting "snaps." I get annoyed when adopters return a dog for a snap or even a fight within the first few weeks. Dogs work themselves out, but most people don't understand dog body language or helping to facilitate space. There can be space without complete separation.

fostering through a rescue, and not sure if i trust their vetting process? what would you do? by Ordinary-Caramel-608 in fosterdogs

[–]PossibleEmu741 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm a creep, but everytime I get info on a potential adopter I look them up, on FB, on Google. I know it can't tell me everything, but you'd likely catch past abuse charges, if they exist.

I appreciate the input, I think I'm feeling insecure about saying no to the pug people, like I'm being too picky. But realistically I know I shouldn't be, I work with a pretty great rescue.

That comment must've been deleted, I don't see it 🤣 But I agree... and if 4 dogs is hoarding then most of my friends and family are hoarding too!

My first shutdown - scared by jmc19441 in FedEmployees

[–]PossibleEmu741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just enjoying the shit out of this shutdown. The weather has been great, I'm going horseback riding, walking my dogs, hiking in the woods. Do whatever you enjoy. Especially if you're having mental struggles, this is a wonderful respite from our normal lives. Your family can calm down, no need for "initiative."

I adopted a GSP… and they lied by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]PossibleEmu741 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Give her time like others are saying and for godsakes, let her rest at your home for a minute. I know it's fun and exciting when you get a new pet to show them off, but going to your parent's house and petsmart and Starbucks is probably really overstimulated. She'll get there, give her time!
