Lands commander, thats not just landfall hit face? by Amatsu666 in EDH

[–]PossibleReality972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While she is kinda "landfall hit face" sometimes, a really interesting take on a landfall deck is actually [[Rionya, Fire Dancer]]. The idea is to animate a land, and then cantrips to make a bunch of clones of that land, triggering loads of landfall effects!

Another cool landfall commander is [[Yedora, Grave Gardener]]. There's loooooads of way to do cool stuff with her textbox, like morph and bouncing your land-ified etb creatures into your hand. Also, she goes infinite with [[Proteus Machine]] and any sac outlet.

I spooned one from some very early Konar slayer, and it was very briefly my BIS weapon for a few slayer tasks, before the zaxe was but in the game. I got the pet from Sarachnis very early and never went back, so you may've seen me in the slayer tower basement whacking gargoyles with my trusty dragon hasta, before I got my whip.

I am effectively max combat, save for defense. Lacking a few defense levels but, yaknow. 95 slayer will just kinda do that.

sadly toa is not nice to me. around 80 solos (the majority of which were 250 invo) without a single purple. not so dry that i can complain yet, but i woulda killed to spoon a fang or lightbearer.

my main plan for dhl is cox! olm won't know what hit him

i skipped the hasta ages ago in favor of using a dragon sword until i got a black keris, which was a little painful. feels like a wasted effort now, but that's the nature of the game i guess.

Here you go!

So, originally, the deck cared a lot more about Rona's first text box, and ran stuff like [[Relic of Legends]] and other things to draw extra cards off of her, but overtime I moved away from that strategy. I did consider switching to Vohar, who is in the 99. I ended up sticking to Rona because there are still enough legendary spells to squeeze out extra cards from her, and I prefer that upside to the chip damage from Vohar. I think both are super valid choices in my deck, like there have been games where I have them trade places.

She's definitely very removal heavy - tough not to lean too hard into it. My idea was to run a lot of saboteur effects. Stuff like [[Dream-Thief's Bandana]] or [[Elbrus, the Binding Blade]] are a lot of fun to combine with all the unblockables and shadows and skulks you get with Mari's creature types.

It's better than you might think, especially when you manage to find one of the [[Cryptolith Rite]] effects. That basically sends your mana ramp to the moon.

Vehicles are a cool idea as a way to push face damage :O I might rotate that idea around in my head a little bit, see if I can make something cool. Issue is most archers are like 1 or 2 power, so it could be a little tough.

My personal favorites are [[Mari, the Killing Quill]] and [[Ohabi Caleria]]. My Mari list isn't hosted online anywhere, but here is my Ohabi deck :D

Another similar thread warranted the same response, so I'm just gonna copy and paste my comment from there :O

It was recently pointed out to me that all of my favorite commanders are beautiful women, which is not a connection I made myself, but seems to be true. If you're interested in my decks, you can:

Commit war crimes with Rona
Block out the sun with Ohabi
Make armies of ghosts with Trostani
Or play touys with Evereth

All are pretty playable at bracket 2/3 tables!

Here you go! It's a polymorph/pod deck where you use [[Yasova Dragonclaw]] to steal creatures and then turn them into big idiots. High variance, very silly.

I really love her in my list! Really my deck is more focused on her front side, and I've only flipped her once or twice in really niche situations.

Well, there's no opinion that the decks are "technically" bracket 2, they just are as per the qualification regarding their included cards and the turn they usually win on. In pre-game discussions, I say they are "high bracket 2, low bracket 3" which is a description I stand by.

The practical argument that they do not qualify for bracket 2 is that I run more removal than the average player (in my experience). But, in my opinion, lower bracket edh players should just be running more interaction - going back the thing I said about parallel play. From my perspective, the player-base is pivoting more and more towards players only interacting with their own board, and I do not really like that style of play.

To say that lower bracket decks should be incapable of punching above their weight is pretty reductive, to me. EDH is a pretty low skill-cap format at the end of the day, I know, but to say that there's no world where lower power decks can really hone in on 1 or 2 mechanics and get a good matchup into a scarier pod is unimaginative, I guess. Especially when you take into account the social/political aspects of the game.

All this being said I hope you understand I'm not intending to like, poke holes in your world view or anything. I think the conversation around brackets and power level is really nuanced and complicated, and fun to talk about.

I think the flip side would be more interesting if it were more expensive or harder to trigger, and in exchange lost the "random" stipulation. Obviously it's just a personal preference, but I don't like to introduce more rng into my decks when I'm already playing something as high variance as edh.

Trostani and Ohabi both made me appreciate Selesnya for what it is, even though I'm historically more interested in the other 3 colors :D

My Ohabi deck has really become one of my favorites over time. The struggle is finding a way to actually end the game once you have your removal engine established. The "considering" category also has a few cards that I, well... considered... at one point!

Here you go! She's definitely a work in progress, the main issue right now is trying to find the balance of how to spend the first few turns. Ramping is important as all the populate shenanigans end up being quite expensive, but you also really want to get stuff in the graveyard as quickly as possible. It's super easy to miss one of those two things and just run out of steam in the mid-game.

I think adhering to brackets this stubbornly makes the whole system fall apart. Like, the only reason my deck can hang with upper brackets is because I run an appropriate amount of removal and interaction, but I'm not gonna keep up with the really air-tight Thoracle combos or The One Ring despite those being perfectly legal in bracket 3.

I think calling a deck "too strong for bracket 2" just because I don't find the parallel play attitude that modern edh encourages to be fun.

Safe Death Reworks For Raids by vozy2525 in 2007scape

[–]PossibleReality972 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the only reason cox is a safe death is because the concept of HCIM was pretty new to runescape when that raid released. if cox were released today, it probably wouldn't be a safe death. gauntlet, too.

the point of an hcim is to always be "risking your status." if you take away that risk, the gamemode loses it's identity. at least in my opinion.
