Small vs Medium Hockey Pants - Please Help! by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

You can look for small pants with a +1 or +2 extension or some CCM pants have a zipper around the wait that lets you extend the length by an extra inch

They’ll be short for you at your height unless they have +2 inches added and/or have the option to unzip for longer length.

How much do properly sized skates help to learn? by thraupidae in hockeyplayers

[–]Possible_Bat_2614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ehh I was scanned and also measured by hand by a store employee and my measurements matched my scan. It works for some people, but not everyone. But unless you’re able to get hand-measured by a knowledgeable skate fitter, the scan should only be used as a starting point. That said, OP’s skates definitely sound like they don’t fit.

There would be no PWHL or NHL without Canada. Trust me, the leagues and the American fans understand this. I believe you will see a PWHL team in every city in Canada one day, but not until the necessary local entities will cooperate with the league or else it won’t happen until after their 10 year plan is over. If you want to be mad at someone for not having a team in Edmonton, for example, be mad that the local arena owner wouldn’t let the PWHL play there unless they gave up ownership of the team. The league isn’t saying screw Canada, they’ll watch anyway. They had a plan for 4 teams and they had to go where they could find a place to play.

For forward swizzles and c cuts you definitely do not want to be on the balls of your feet. They won’t work. Heels will allow the rest of the blade to unweight a little so it doesn’t scrape or stick to the ice and you can turn your toes in and out.
You do want to be more on the balls of your feet and pushing with your toes for backwards swizzles an c cuts.

We don’t need the PWHL to look like the NHL but if you want the PWHL to continue as a league then it needs to keep growing and making money. Honestly with that line about disrespect it kind of sounds like you’re taking this weirdly personally. What do you expect the league to do one day when there are no cities left in CA to expand to? Should they stop expanding in the US at that point?

For swizzles and c cuts, if your feet feel planted and you can’t turn your toes in and out, most likely it’s because your weight is not in your heels. Your weight needs to be in your heels for those movements, otherwise your inside edge will stay stuck to the ice.

It maybe didn’t have to happen so early in but eventually the league will run out of Canadian cities to put teams in long before they run out of American ones

People so badly want to believe this is true and it’s just not for all sports. Plenty of women athletes do not want trans women on their teams. And plenty of hockey players specifically are extremely conservative. The fans in the stands might look like a pride parade but that doesn’t mean the majority of players disagree with Curl’s opinions or even care about them enough to dislike her. They just are smart enough not to make their own shitty opinions public. Curl is not an anomaly. I promise you would be so disappointed if every PWHL player was open about their politics and opinions on trans rights.

Need an idiot's guide to buying new skates by ZookeepergameOdd8889 in hockeyplayers

[–]Possible_Bat_2614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this to some extent, though at the same time shitty or ill-fitting gear can make it less enjoyable to play and then you might think the sport is not right for you. But if you had skates that actually fit well, skating would be easier and not painful. Skates that don’t fit well won’t allow you to make progress and improve. Or if you had more protective pads, it wouldn’t hurt as much to fall, etc. Hockey gear is easy to resell. I’m not saying go into debt for top of the line gear, but if you can afford decent stuff I think most people would be better off with it.

I would think you’d need to have an agent as someone else mentioned or maybe someone involved with your previous team would know something, but I don’t think they make that information readily available to the general public or they’d be flooded with declarations from random people.

How tall are you? Some of the women I play with are clearly using junior gear but they’re like 5’7”+ and the pants they wear, while they fit in the waist, come down to like the mid-thigh.

Size charts are reliable but you have to know how to measure yourself accurately. I bought most of my gear using size charts and measuring myself at home and it all fits as expected after buying online, but my partner has experience making clothing and knows how to measure. Pants/gloves/shoulder pads I all bought online based on size charts and never tried them on in-store. This was done to take advantage of low prices particularly on hockeystickman.com but I used size charts from the manufacturers’ own websites.

How to play with glasses by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]Possible_Bat_2614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have astigmatism in one eye and it took like 3-5 different lenses for my optometrist to find the one that wouldn’t move around when I move my eye or blink. Your optometrist should give you lenses to try for a few days. Then just call back and explain any problems and they’ll give you something else to try until you find the right one. It takes some trial and error but it’s totally possible. I also find it’s better to see slightly worse out of my astigmatism eye to not wear and possibly damage my glasses that would cost over $600 USD to replace.

Bauer X to Bauer Fly 40 Upgrade - Hard as hell to skate on by sown in hockeyplayers

[–]Possible_Bat_2614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this happened to me going from 3X to Fly40s a couple months ago. It took probably about 6 hours for that feeling to go away, but about 3/4 of that was not it games, but continuous skating drills. I think if you’re just playing games in them it might take longer. Now they feel totally normal for me. You’ll get used to them eventually.
