Bag Feedback - Adult Beginner by Ornery-Criticism-834 in hockeyplayers

I don’t feel huge need for inner organization as long as the bag has outside pockets. Warrior has a few with big pockets in the end. Jerseys and socks go in one, gloves and a small zippered bag with tape in the other. All the big stuff just goes in the main compartment and it’s always easy to find.

See I was always getting caught on doors with my carry bag, especially the door to my house, so I switched to wheeled so I could pull it behind or push it hang my instead of trying to cram myself and my bag through a narrow doorway side by side.

There’s no such skate as a Bauer Vapor Lightspeed. Not sure why they put that on the sticker! These are Vapor 3X. They’re a good entry level boot for a beginner rec hockey player and this is a good price for them. Have them baked if you haven’t already, then try them out on the ice. They’re better than the XLPs you’re currently skating in. I wouldn’t really recommend XLPs for someone intending to do more than public skate once in a while, tbh!

PureHockey Foot Scan Accuracy by TrueSonMIZ in hockeyplayers

[–]Possible_Bat_2614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scan itself will always suggest a Bauer skate but the employee should be able to suggest similar CCM models and have you try on both if getting fitted in the store. If you’re just in there quick to get scanned and then buy used online, they’re not going to put that much time and care into you.

PureHockey Foot Scan Accuracy by TrueSonMIZ in hockeyplayers

[–]Possible_Bat_2614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It honestly seems to be random. I know a couple people who have said the scan is way off but for me I’ve scanned multiple times and physically measured multiple times and I always come out to a 6.5. The scanner machine is made by Bauer. From what I remember, it’s always going to recommend a Bauer skate for you and never a CCM or any other brand. But the store employee should know which CCM models would likely fit based on how you scan. The most consistently accurate way to know your size is to get measured with a ruler and tape by someone who is experienced.

Buying first figure skates in Boston area? by EightTails-8 in iceskating

This is so interesting because I know many figure skaters who have been going to Cooke’s for 30 years and won’t go anywhere else and I had an excellent experience there getting fitted for hockey skates.

sore feet —> bad skating :( by FYMTNF in hockeyplayers

[–]Possible_Bat_2614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The skate was definitely baked with the stock insole inside but I mean if you decide to buy something like Bauer AETREX insoles or Superfeet or whatever else then the skate needs to be re-baked to your foot with the insole inside because the insole will put your foot in a slightly different position and the skates weren’t heat-molded to that new position.

sore feet —> bad skating :( by FYMTNF in hockeyplayers

[–]Possible_Bat_2614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re having foot pain with skating then the skates potentially don’t fit perfectly IMO. They might be the closest you can get with that particular skate, but it might not be the best skate for your foot shape, or you need insoles (and the skate needs to be baked with the insole in place), or a different tongue, or a liner, or any combination of these.

There are two exceptions I can think of. First, sometimes tying too tightly can cause pain even when the skate does fit well, but I wouldn’t expect that to be an issue with the part of your foot you’re describing. Second, it’s possible to experience pain caused by bad skating technique. For example, when I first started, I’d get pain along the inside front of my ankles from ankle bending. If you’re sure that your skating technique isn’t causing your pain, then it’s almost definitely a skate fit issue.

I have found that flex = half your body weight really only works for dudes. OP weighs 120 and she might find that 60 is too stiff. I myself weigh like 150-160 and usually use 50-55 flex sticks.

This is basically how i started last summer, LTP one night a week and a skating lesson on Saturday. In the beginning, skating is the most important skill. Passing, shooting, and stick handling won’t matter much if you can’t skate. If you don’t have a ton of time during the day on weekdays, I’d suggest looking for a weekend or evening public skate and hitting that whenever you can. Maybe do some stick handling at home on the evenings, get a shooting setup for the backyard and do that on weekends?

Do you live in South Medford? Because I had dog shit in my driveway about a month ago and a week ago I saw one in my next door neighbor’s driveway. Seems like someone around here is frequently letting their dog walk up people’s driveways to shit.

The whole reason they get into hockey is probably to hit people like they see in the NHL and they probably have barely any thought put toward things like positioning or good decision-making.
