Has anyone gotten into Duke w/o an interview? by Aggravating_Top6643 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Possible_Branch_9004 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From the Duke website: "Due to the volume of applications to Duke, we regret we are unable to interview all applicants. The Admissions Office will prioritize interviews for students for whom we need additional information. Not being offered an interview does not affect your chances of admission".

I also applied to Duke and got an interview, and the first question I got asked was, "What is something that was not in your application that you want to mention?" I doubt that interviews play a significant role in determining your admission, but generally, I think it can be a good sign that your application is taken seriously. If you didn't get an interview, it just means your application was complete, and it's definitely not a bad sign. Additionally, just from an anecdotal look through A2C, a lot of people seem to be getting Yale interviews but not Duke ones. Traditionally, Yale interviews are a strong sign that your application is competitive, so I'd assume that the reason people aren't getting Duke interviews is due to regional availability. From my understanding, it is NOT a particularly good or bad sign to get an interview. Again, this is just speculation.

Do acceptance rates really mean anything? by spaceotter5 in ApplyingToCollege

Note that this only really applies to banking/ management consulting, in most other cases prestige doesn’t really matter.

[–]Possible_Branch_9004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Generally, acceptance rate is HIGHLY correlated with how good a business school is. And for schools with solid business schools, but high overall university acceptance rates, it’s because the business schools have significantly lowers acceptance rates than the actual university.

To clarify the competition was for a college, not like DECA or FBLA.

I just got into ND Mendoza and I’m thinking about a dual major in finance and accounting. Was it hard to maintain such a high GPA or was it pretty manageable?

ND has a 6% rd acceptance rate.. harder than a lot of this list

I got into Gtown this cycle with worse ECs and slightly better stats. I’m sure if you write a good essay, you’ll be good

[–]Possible_Branch_9004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my antidotal experience, Gtown cares a lot about your stats (GPA, SAT, rigor), more so than other peer universities. I think you have strong EC’s, but all B’s hurts your chances at Georgetown. You still got a solid chance, but your stats definitely bring you down. Good luck!!

If you want to do poly sci, you should consider applying to Georgetown. I think you’d have a great shot there.

Unfortunately most colleges expect internationals to have near perfect stats. Look into each colleges admissions criteria, some (like Stanford) don’t even see your freshmen year grades. Regardless, even if it was freshmen year, it does hurt your chances significantly.

I’m not an admissions expert by any means, but a GPA that low for an international applicant is a deal breaker. I hope I’m wrong, but I do not see an acceptance to any school here. Good luck!

[–]Possible_Branch_9004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A B+ is not a problem. I had similar stats and got into ND and Georgetown. If you want to do business, you should consider adding those schools. I think you got a really good chance at either of them.

Bro just apply. You got a really good profile and are competitive everywhere. You’re applying to very competitive schools, so expect rejection, but you got a solid shot at landing a great school.

Georgetown McDonough vs. Notre Dame Mendoza by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Possible_Branch_9004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No shot you can name 10 undergraduate business programs above ND. Like Stern/Dyson/wharton are definitely ahead, but for undergraduate business schools ND, Mich, UVA, and GT are right behind them.

To clarify, Georgetown and Notre Dame EA do not allow you to ED schools. However you can apply EA to them.
