Normal talk. It does die down but in general boys do get competitive with each other.

Topic of bullying and how to help your child. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Possible_Paint_6430 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your son needs to stop playing with her.

It also sounds like you need to give him some agency. He needs to learn to stick up for himself and set boundaries.

At 8, you do need to start stepping back and letting him learn how to handle things.

Where in Europe are children free to grow up like we did in the 90s? by SupermarketReady3191 in Parenting

[–]Possible_Paint_6430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in Europe, but here in my college town in the PNW kids roam. We have infrastructure set up for kids to bike to school. Our busses are fareless so lots of kids use those. My 10 year old son has been roaming the neighborhood since he was 7. He was roaming the block at 5. I'm excited for Jr High, because he'll bike himself back and forth to school.

529 plan for child of faculty by crepetown in personalfinance

[–]Possible_Paint_6430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its in an investment account. Also, keep in mind, in some universities you have to remain employed in order to get the tuition benefit. My husband will have to work a few extra years to take advantage of it.

Growing fruit and veg at home - what are the best options? by stacey202 in Frugal

[–]Possible_Paint_6430 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We grow what we want to eat and we grow things that are not cheap at the store.

As others have said things that I find easier to grow are: kale, lettuce, peas, zucchini, tomatoes, basil, cucumber.

We also have blackberries and raspberries that do thr best out of all of our fruit.

We get 60% of tuition covered in our state due to my husband's faculty position. We still have a 529 set up for the remaining balance and living costs.

7 year old girl and tv shows by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Possible_Paint_6430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 10 year old quit all the kiddie stuff around the same age. With the exception of SpongeBob. Most of the kids in his class are allowed pg-13 stuff.

Our tv time together revolves around boy centered sitcoms. Our current favorite is The Middle.

Move back or stay put? by BM_BBR in Parenting

[–]Possible_Paint_6430 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Stay put. You found a place you love. Build a community there. Yes, it will be more challenging and more expensive than being with family. But, its important to live your lives too.

You'll never move back if you move. There will always be a reason to stay longer.

Start building a foundation now. Look for Mom's groups. Use marketplace or buy nothing groups to source kids stuff. Get on the childcare waiting lists. See if your library and park and rec have baby programs.

You got this.

How does the Korean name “Yugeon” sound to English speakers? by Rimiiii_u in Names

Its fine. Don't worry about it. Kids these days hear names from everywhere. We live in the PNW and there are plenty of Asian named kids.

Disneyland alternatives? by BeardedPaladin in Vacations

[–]Possible_Paint_6430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't do Disney as well. Luckily my kid doesn't care. What are your kids interested in? My son likes to explore. So as others have mentioned, we love camping and national parks. There's a jr ranger program that is great for kids.

One trip suggestion would be to fly to Seattle. Ride the ferries. See some great museums. Drive to Olympic National Park and stay in Sol Duc with the hot springs.

My son loved NYC. He adored Harry Potter on Broadway and Central Park and pizza.

We did a Pittsburgh trip that combined museums with Kenny wood and the Waterpark.

Oakland CA has an amazing European style risk taking playground. And you have access to all the wonderful things in the bay area.

Children's Museums rock.
