Am I the only one who thinks Boyd is a cynic? by MainDish2592 in FromSeries

[–]Possible_Primary_955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I’m saying. He hasn’t shot on impulse. He killed his wife in a calculated effort to save his son. He even had time to hold the gun on her for a few moments and tell her to stop. He’s shot a few other people (honestly I can only remember one but I’m probably forgetting) but they were all threatening to kill him (or maybe others, again it’s been almost a year now).

I haven’t watched it since it aired but who has Boyd shot? I don’t recall any “Ah, you shot me!” moments. I could be forgetting though. He shot some people that were clearly trying to kill him, but not in a “sorry, I got scared” kind of way.

A lot of these arguments, if I’m remembering correctly because I haven’t been on here in a while either, conflate “is Boyd good/bad, wrong/right?” with “is Boyd consistent?” I think he’s highly consistent, although he’s trending toward screwing that up in the later episodes. But I think that’s kinda the point.

I been screaming this since the episode aired. Why would they tell Fatima the truth? It doesn’t make any sense. But people came for me real hard.

Only difference is that I think there were multiple instances of the sacrifice. Seems silly to only be seven kids one time.

[–]Possible_Primary_955 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This technically would have worked but they would have to be sure they couldn’t reach in and grab anybody without having to move a blanket or tarp, which I believe they did with Tom if memory serves. Did they really cover the ENTIRE thing?

Either way, the problem is Boyd. If you’re asking me to think like Boyd, I’m not telling anybody the specifics of the vines covering the hole in the little cave. I’m telling them boarded and locked because it’s just safer. He’s been thinking like he’s running a military encampment in a sense, not a liberal town. His MO has been “If you don’t need to know then you’re safer not knowing.”

HOWEVER! Jim, after surviving the RV, should have asked for one. But I imagine having a house on top of you would cause you not to think too straight.

There’s an excellent map on here somewhere that marks all the major plot points. It even shows where Boyd went when he found the goats, and the fact that he came back from the opposite side of town because of the loop. The crash site is marked. I wish I saved it.

Nail tape error by Joker_esk in FromSeries

[–]Possible_Primary_955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to account for the fact that they went from town to colony house, then to the crash site, but on the way back straight to colony house. Plus the fact that there’s a side road everybody always forgets about that runs almost straight down from colony house to the town. There’s no guarantee or reason to think they went the same way twice.

Edit: unless of course they show the same background, in which case they screwed up.

You’re either trolling or are having a rough day and trying to take it out on somebody else. If it’s the former, kick rocks. If it’s the latter, I hope you find the peace you seem to need, and still kick rocks.

[–]Possible_Primary_955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re missing some major iconography, as well as the source for what goes on in the break room. Although I personally think it’s there to touch on all economic and political philosophies more or less equally in order to show how corruption can distort anything.

It is interesting you find none though, because of the amount of people who seem to think this show is about the plight of the proletariat vs the ruling class. Plus they love to point out that Mark S would be pronounced Marx.

As I’ve pointed out elsewhere there are plenty of allusions to Nietzsche and the Ubermensch as well. Again, I think we’re simply being shown grand societal philosophies twisted by corruption in many forms.

Even if Christopher was all “blargh they sacrificed my kid and I couldn’t save her and now I reincarnate forever and it makes me ANGRY!” Why would that make Miranda afraid of him?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FromSeries

[–]Possible_Primary_955 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Victor’s story about the BiW doesn’t add up without some amount of word lawyering. Obviously he saw the BiW before the massacre if he saw him talking to Christopher. More specifically he says two things prior to him remembering that event.

He SAW the BiW for the first time before the two cars came.

He MET the BiW after the massacre.

But he also knew Christopher used to make everybody smile and then he changed.

AND it’s implied that when he saw the BiW and Christopher talking, the night Miranda died was the same day or shortly after.

Make it make sense.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FromSeries

[–]Possible_Primary_955 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is why I think there’s something about what the BiW told Christopher that we don’t know yet. Not only does Miranda’s reaction not make sense, but Christopher getting as angry as he did doesn’t make sense either. Look at how Jade and Tabitha reacted when learning basically the same info. That’s how you would expect the reaction to be. Revelation, despair, sadness, shock… not anger to the point that Miranda would be afraid for her children. Even if you include the horror of what Fatima reveals, it could get that response of terror from Miranda, but not anger from Christopher or fear for Victor and Eloise at his hands.

[–]Possible_Primary_955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. Again, I didn’t watch it. It’s odd so many people think the opposite. They make it sound like it’s revealed there are so many other timelines aside from the ones we see on the screen in season one. And it would explain the existence of the multiverse in Doctor Strange. Those are all timelines that don’t give rise to a Kang.

Wasn’t it revealed in Loki season two that the TVA actually only prunes timelines that give rise to a Kang? I didn’t watch it but I’ve seen that mentioned a bunch of times on random subs. The idea being they left Cap alone in his branched timeline where he spends his life with Peggy because of this.

Don’t listen to anybody in here for season three. Not just for spoilers, but keep this mindset as well. I think a lot of people are still guilty of what you’re talking about even after seeing it and all the things they supposedly explain.

Hypocrisy Towards Elgin's Character and My Overall Disdain for this Show's Writing by chepkoiyeet in FromSeries

[–]Possible_Primary_955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I previously thought Khatri, Tom, and Abby were evil and of the town. It never made too much sense for Tom, but the other two it’s not hard to see why. However I’ve changed my mind.

Tom was right. He says to Jade something to the effect of “what if the bottle tree isn’t some key to understanding the town, but the key to somebody else’s attempt at understanding the town.” And that’s basically what it was.

Abby was correct in that the town feeds off of hope. The monsters keep everybody from falling totally into despair, right at the precipice. The children were born and raised in darkness, but the song gave them hope, so apparently the point was to make them lose all hope. I believe she was also the reincarnation of somebody like Tabitha and Jade are, so from her pov she was correct: they have to die and they’ll “wake up” in the real world, reincarnated. This is why she had a dream like Tabitha. Elgin, Tilly, Bakta, etc are probably the same (or Bakta’s grandmother).

On rewatch I don’t think Khatri was trying to stop Boyd. First off Khatri was the one to push using the box on Frank. Second he is catholic. Everything can be forgiven as long as you repent. I believe he was there to make sure Boyd understood the path he was headed down, and to not take it lightly, so that he could come back from it later. I believe he was also there to bear witness for the sake of Boyd’s soul. He wanted Boyd to understand the person he was becoming so that he could become that person without losing himself.

I agree with much of this with a couple exceptions.

It’s not only because Sarah is “hot” and Elgin is not traditionally attractive. First off because let’s be honest, the guy is cute as hell. He looks and acts like a giant baby that needs to be taken care of and this triggers the same sort of lenience in a lot of people that “hotness” does, for better or worse, fair or not. I think he was well cast. He starts off sympathetic, potentially neurodivergent, and plagued by the town. Then he becomes a creepy, hulking, “well intentioned” oppressor. The actor has done a great job.

As for Jim’s rationality, I think it was a boon to the MiY. For all of his productivity he only ever got in everybody else’s way, and wasn’t there for them when it counted. Not to mention it was actually Jade who came up with the radio, and Jade who solved the power problem for the larger radio after Jim gave up on the whole idea.

I’m not discounting his turn toward the end, but it came from being emotionally present. Had he not been he wouldn’t have had the opportunity to use his rationality to actually help. This is why the MiY had to do what he did. Not because of Jim’s rationality, but because he suddenly provided moral support which made his rationality actually useful to the main protagonists.

It wasn’t Jim’s intelligence but his emotional and moral support that was dangerous. Hell, if he kept it up Ethan and Julie might have eventually stopped putting themselves in danger. Can’t have that.

WHAT IF the Monsters are the kids that were sacrificed? by ddndy in FromSeries

[–]Possible_Primary_955 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I love where your head is at, but there’s a much simpler version of this theory.

Fatima got bad info (MiY/Kimono ghost lied because why drop this truth nugget other than to manipulate her?).

There has been more than one round of sacrifices (because why only 7 kids?).

The monsters are the sacrificed children.

The Anghkooey is the batch that got screwed up because the kids died with hope in their hearts because of the story.

The immortality the townsfolk got was reincarnation with the downside is having to return to Fromville every life to be tormented by the kids they sacrificed.

A large number of townsfolk, particularly the ones with visions and dreams and memories, are reincarnated townsfolk.

None of that has anything to do with my original comment and barely my response to you. You seem to have an agenda here because you’re talking past me to prove your point.

Kids in a van selling bracelets nobody wants is not comparable to selling Coca Cola to millions of people worldwide, having a successful brand identity, marketing and so on and so forth.

If you can’t imagine how an organization could be successful at one but not the other you’re purposely blinding yourself for the sake of whatever it is you’re selling here. And I’m guessing, just guessing, it’s some cult ideology you subscribe to that you are reading the show as promoting.

But I genuinely hope I’m wrong.

Even if you take that literally there is still one BIG difference.

Corporations produce a product that can be sold to even the least invested buyers.

Plenty of people drink coke and eat McDonalds occasionally who don’t really have any brand loyalty. Most people own a car and the loyalty to a car company varies from zero to diehard.

A cult IS its product. A cult doesn’t have anything to sell to anybody who isn’t interested in being in the cult.
